In 2020, before the world fell apart, director Leigh Whannell unleashed a seriously smart take on one of cinema’s greatest foes: The Invisible Man. His vision of the Universal Monster offered an entirely new idea on what H.G. Wells first dreamed up – turning the premise into a terrifying tale of gaslighting, as Elisabeth Moss’ architect Cecilia is convinced her seemingly-dead abusive ex is still haunting her. Now, Whannell is following up The Invisible Man with another Universal Monster movie, Wolf Man. And this one, too, delivers an all-new approach to the legendary lycanthrope. Here, it’s Christopher Abbott’s Blake who’s about to undergo some lunar lunacy, beset by a beast whose claw has him slowly transforming into something else.
As that premise suggests, Whannell’s Wolf Man will be leaning into the body-horror elements inherent to the werewolf mythos. And he’s taking cues from one of the all-time greats.

Around the time he makes his Dcu debut as Rick Flag Sr. in the animated Creature Commandos series (he will also play the character in live-action in Superman and Peacemaker season 2), Frank Grillo will go up against a lot of lycanthropes in a new horror movie from director Steven C. Miller.
Leigh Whannell's Wolf Man reboot is coming our way early next year (you can check out the most recent trailer here), but before that, a more action-oriented werewolf movie is set to howl into theaters.
Following last month's first trailer, we now have a new "Supermoon" teaser courtesy of Bloody Disgusting.
The movie, which has been described as "The Purge with werewolves," has a killer premise: "One year ago, a Supermoon turned millions into werewolves. This December, it’s happening again.”

A new look at Blumhouse’s upcoming creature feature Wolf Man gives us a longer look at a couple of scenes.
Leigh Whannell has dubbed his upcoming werewolf project for Blumhouse as a ‘straight-up horror movie’ and we’re very much behind that idea. Whilst twisting the classic Wolfman tale in the direction of comedy or drama has given us some interesting and enjoyable takes on the hairy monster over the years, one of the things we love about Whannell’s films is how he commits to the bite.
Perhaps 2018’s Upgrade is the best example of this, an old-fashioned action thriller with a gloss coat of splatterpunk violence applied, but a film that is entirely unironic in its presentation and an earnest take on the material. Considering Blumhouse’s January releases can veer wildly in tone – from the comic silliness of M3GAN to the schlocky mock drama of Night Swim,...

Universal Pictures' proposed Dark Universe may have died a death long before it ever really got going, but the central idea — to take the studio's iconic pantheon of monsters and bring them into the 21st century — has remained very much alive (Aliiive!). In 2020, Saw co-creator Leigh Whannell successfully reimagined The Invisible Man as a timely allegory for the terrors of gaslighting with Elisabeth Moss, resulting in one of the best horror movies in recent memory. Now, with his upcoming Wolf Man, the Aussie filmmaker is preparing to retool Universal's 1941 creature feature as a tale of toxic masculinity and the dissolution of the familial unit starring Christopher Abbott, Julia Garner, and newcomer Matilda Firth. Check out the beast of a new trailer that's just been released below:

There’s no other word for it: Star Wars series Andor was nothing short of revolutionary. The Rogue One prequel – depicting how Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor was drawn into the burgeoning Rebellion – reinvented the galaxy far, far away from the inside out. And yet it remained Star Wars through-and-through, delving deeper than ever before into the saga’s themes of antifascism, hard-won freedom, and the evils of Imperialism. Now, a Star Wars story like no other is about to go out with a bang – Andor Season 2 will complete Cassian’s rise, taking us straight into Rogue One with all the uncompromising flair that creator Tony Gilroy is known for. The revolution has just begun.
This month’s issue of Empire takes a world-exclusive deep-dive into the long-awaited return of Andor – speaking to Gilroy and his cast on what to expect from the time-hopping second and final season. Inside, we talk to Gilroy,...

We're now just over two months away from the release of The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell's Wolf Man reboot, and Universal Pictures UK (via FearHQ.com) has debuted an international trailer featuring quite a bit of new footage.
Our first look at what was assumed to be the titular Wolf Man via an actor in a costume at Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights was met with a lot of backlash, but the first teaser did suggest that this will be the creature responsible for the initial attack, leaving Christopher Abbott's Blake to change into a different beast altogether.
The recent full trailer confirmed that the movie will indeed feature another werewolf, and we catch a new glimpse of the monster (he appears to be more bald than we were expecting!) charging through the trees on all fours in this latest teaser.

"Don't you lay a hand on him!" Universal UK has unveiled another official trailer for the new Wolf Man movie, arriving in theaters January 2025 early next year. A few extra glimpses of different footage added to this trailer though most of it is similar to the official US trailer from last month. Produced by Jason Blum & Blumhouse, this a fresh update on the classic furry Universal Monster originally invented with the 1941 film The Wolf Man. Most recently there was the 2010 remake called The Wolfman starring Benicio Del Toro plus tons of other werewolf flicks in the last few years. From Blumhouse and visionary writer-director Leigh Whannell, the creators of the chilling modern monster tale The Invisible Man, comes a terrifying new lupine nightmare: Wolf Man. The new tagline: "What if someone you loved became something else?" What would you do? A man must save himself and his family when they are stalked,...

Update: Warner Bros. has delayed the release of Companion by three weeks, pushing it back to January 31, 2025, the date they had previously reserved for Mickey 17. That film has now moved to April.
The original article follows:
The sci-fi thriller Companion is coming our way from writer/director Drew Hancock and the team behind the 2022 horror hit Barbarian, but even though over a year has passed since the project assembled its cast and went into production, we still know very little about it. It has managed to stay shrouded in secrecy all this time. Which is a good thing, since it won’t be reaching theatres (including IMAX screens) until January… but now, the shroud is starting to be lifted, starting with the release of a teaser trailer. You can watch it in the embed above. The release date gives Companion a one week head-start on Blumhouse Productions and director...

Warner Bros has delayed Parasite director Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17 yet again. For once, this may not be a bad thing…
For those of you eagerly awaiting Bong Joon-ho’s follow up to the Oscar-winning Parasite, this might sting a little. Despite having to endure a delay of almost a year already, Warner Bros has pushed Mickey 17 back even further into 2025.
A quick recap: Mickey 17 puts Robert Pattinson in a weird but fun looking sci-fi satire. The film was originally set to release in March of this year before the film was removed from that scheduled slot. A hold-up in post-production work was the publicly-stated reason that we got at the time, but the project has been dogged by rumours that the studio was unhappy with Bong’s movie. Some stories even suggested he may have lost final cut.
Bong eventually came out and publicly denied that report, maintaining...

The critically acclaimed Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man revitalized the classic tale of H.G. Wells into a modern adaptation. The film follows a scientist who fakes his death to stalk his ex-girlfriend using his newfound invisibility technology. Unlike earlier attempts to resurrect Universal’s classic monsters, The Invisible Man has effectively used Blumhouse’s influence. Although Universal continues to announce plans for films based on its iconic monsters, Whannell’s version of The Invisible Man stands out for successfully adapting these legendary stories.
As The Invisible Man’s open ending hints at future possibilities, fans wonder if The Invisible Man 2 will happen. While it remains unconfirmed, here’s everything we know about it.

La marca del hombre lobo.Jacinto Molina grew up in Francoist Spain, the son of an extremely successful furrier. As a young boy, he was surrounded by death in the aftermath of the civil war, losing friends and family members, and passing corpses in the streets and fields around Madrid. Two of Molina’s uncles, both collectors who ran in artistic circles, introduced him to a bohemian lifestyle and range of interests. He met famous painters (Jose Gutierréz Solana), writers (Camilo José Cela), and matadors (Manolete); he was entranced by comic books, the movies, and the occult. When, at his elite boarding school, he was asked what he wanted to be when he grew up, he knew to respond with the respectable aspiration of “architect.” Instead, he would become Paul Naschy.Naschy is now synonymous with a mid-century surge in Gothic Eurohorror that replicated in continental Europe the success of Hammer Films in the UK.

Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst lead the cast of director Derek Cianfrance’s crime drama, with Roofman set to debut in 2025.
There’ll be plenty of folks out there keeping an eye out for director Derek Cianfrance’s next film, partly because we’ve had to wait so long for it. After tackling The Invisible Man, writer/director Leigh Whannell set his sights on updating another iconic Universal Horror Monster: The Wolf Man. There have been many different incarnations of the Wolf Man character, but Whannell told ScreenRant that his version is unlike any that have come before it, adding that he even took inspiration from Heath Ledger’s Joker.

I had every look in front of me, and I’m kind of staring at it, and I’m like, ‘All right, so where do I fit in?’” Whannell explained. “You know what a big inspiration to me was, was Heath Ledger’s version of the Joker. Back in 2020, director Leigh Whannell brought the world a well-received modern update of the classic Universal property The Invisible Man. On January 17, 2025, Universal will be releasing Whannell’s take on another classic Universal property, Wolf Man. There aren’t any plans in place for Whannell to continue making new versions of the Universal Monsters – but, if he were to given his pick of which character(s) to resurrect next, he has said that he would go with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
Robert Louis Stevenson created the characters of Jekyll and Hyde in his 1886 novella Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, which depicts the gripping struggle of two opposing personalities — one essentially good, the other evil — for the soul of one man. The story has received many cinematic adaptations over the years, with one being a 26 minute short film that was released in 1913 and came from companies that...

As taglines go, the one for Leigh Whannell's Wolf Man — "What if someone you loved became something else?" — is a doozy. Having deftly reconfigured Universal's classic The Invisible Man in 2020 as an Elizabeth Moss led commentary on the horrors of gaslighting, the Aussie filmmaker and co-creator of both Saw and Insidious is retooling the studio's 1941 lycanthropic creature feature as a clawed parable on toxic masculinity and the dissolution of the family unit with Christopher Abbott (Poor Things) and Julia Garner (Ozark). Check out the foreboding new trailer below:
Switching Wales for Oregon and wolf-headed walking sticks for a slightly more visceral catalytic werewolf encounter, it looks like Whannell is going to make good on his promise of "straight-up, pure horror" here with a folk-inflected genre movie barbed with some gnarly looking body horror elements. From its torchlit woodlands to the rural Oregonian farmhouse Abbott's Blake and his brood are holed up in,...

Blumhouse and Universal have released a new trailer for their hairy horror, Wolf Man, out in January 2025.
Blumhouse’s Wolf Man has gone through a lot of production changes. Director, Leigh Whannell came onto the project off the back off two remarkable films (Upgrade and The Invisible Man) before being replaced by Derek Cianfrance, probably because he’s a regular collaborator of the film’s original star, Ryan Gosling. When Gosling left, replaced by Christopher Abbott, Whannell stepped back in.
We already got a teaser trailer back in September, but with the film’s January release edging ever closer, Universal has dropped another trailer for the film, this time revealing glimpses of the body horror to come. It’s not even a full moon right now, so we suppose it makes sense that we still haven’t fully seen the creature. Wolf Man stars Julia Garner, Christopher Abbott, Sam Jaeger...

Following an impressively creepy first teaser, Blumhouse has released a full trailer and a new poster for The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell's upcoming Wolf Man reboot, and it gives us a first glimpse of the movie's other werewolf.
Our first look at what was assumed to be the titular monster via an actor in a costume at Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights was met with a lot of backlash, but the first teaser did suggest that this will be the creature responsible for the initial attack, leaving Christopher Abbott's Blake to change into a different beast altogether.
This new look confirms that the movie will indeed feature another werewolf, and we catch a brief glimpse of the lycanthrope right at the end. From what we can make out, this creature design is... quite similar to the guy in the suit!

Awhoooo! The werewolf is back in the new Comic-Con trailer for “Wolf Man,” which is coming to theaters this winter from Blumhouse and Universal.
Golden Globe nominee Christopher Abbott stars as Blake, a husband and father who gets attacked by a werewolf and contracts an infection that starts turning him into a werewolf, too. He starts acting strangely and scarily. At one point, we hear what he hears when his Charlotte (three-time Emmy winner Julia Garner) is speaking to him, and it doesn’t even sound like words. As he transforms from man to beast, Charlotte tries to escape from their rural farmhouse with their daughter Ginger (Matilda Firth) before it’s too late.
The horror thriller comes from director Leigh Whannell, who also wrote the script with Corbett Tuck. Whannell previously made 2020’s much-acclaimed “The Invisible Man,” another reimaging of a classic Universal Monsters character. In an interview with DiscussingFilm,...

Jason Blum couldn’t reveal details today about Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 but he brought New York Comic Con attendees the poster for the sequel to last year’s highest grossing horror movie.
The first movie opened during the actors strike, day-and-date on Peacock and defied all hurdles during last fall’s marketplace. The movie based on the hit videogame was an anomaly performing equally well in theaters and on Peacock since it was a hot fan frenzied franchise. Five Night’s Freddy‘s was Peacock‘s most-watched film or series ever in its first five days, besting previous record-holders Halloween Ends, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Bel-Air and The Best Man: The Final Chapters.
Blum gave props to the pic’s screenwriter Scott Cawthon for having the foresight that it would be a hit. The movie won over fans in its faithful-to-the-videogame production design, down...

"We were attacked... I think my husband was infected." Universal has debuted the full official trailer for the new Wolf Man movie, arriving in theaters January 2025 early next year. The shorter teaser debuted just last month, but there's plenty more frightening footage to see here. Produced by Jason Blum & Blumhouse, this a fresh update on the classic Universal Monster originally invented with the 1941 film The Wolf Man. Most recently there was the 2010 remake called The Wolfman starring Benicio Del Toro (anyone remember it?) plus tons of other werewolf flicks. From Blumhouse and visionary writer-director Leigh Whannell, the creators of the chilling modern monster tale The Invisible Man, comes a terrifying new lupine nightmare: Wolf Man. The new tagline: "What if someone you loved became something else?" A man must save himself and his family when they are stalked, terrorized, and haunted by a deadly werewolf at night during a full moon.

Even a man who is pure of heart, and says his prayers by night, may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms, and the moon is full and bright. Or so says the poem in 1941's "The Wolf Man," the Universal classic that starred Lon Chaney Jr. as Lawrence Talbot, an unlucky guy who gets bit by a werewolf and finds himself turning into a monster when the moon is full. It's a moody, gothic movie that pretty much gave birth to werewolf tropes as we know them today.
"The Wolf Man" was remade in 2010 as "The Wolfman," and while that film boasted some great practical makeup effects work from the legendary Rick Baker, it was a bit of a mess due to studio meddling, and the end result underperformed at the box office (the film also committed the mortal sin of nixing some of Baker's practical makeup to use some terrible CGI). Now,...

Two years ago, we brought you the news that Florence Pugh had signed on to star in a new adaptation of East Of Eden, John Steinbeck's 1952 literary epic. In the time since the project — a seven-part Netflix limited series written by Zoe Kazan (The Big Sick) — was first announced, Christopher Abbott has joined the show's cast and Pugh's star has continued to rise with winning turns in the likes of The Wonder, Oppenheimer, and Dune: Part Two. And now we're getting an exciting new casting announcement for the series as Netflix has officially greenlit the project. Per Deadline's reporting, Challengers star Mike Faist has joined the ensemble, and whilst earlier indications suggested he will be playing Cal Trask, the part James Dean famously played in Elia Kazan's 1955 movie, it looks instead like he'll be playing the novel's Cain figure, Charles, instead.

There’s a reboot of the classic Universal Monsters property The Wolf Man coming our way from Blumhouse Productions and The Invisible Man (2020) director Leigh Whannell, aiming for a January 17, 2025 theatrical release – and the folks at Empire have just unveiled a new image from the film, which can be seen at the bottom of this article. Empire also shared some quotes from Whannell where he said he’s aiming to make this different from every other werewolf movie we’ve seen, and described the project as “straight-up, pure horror.”
The leads of Wolf Man are Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner, both of whom were in the 2011 film Martha Marcy May Marlene. Abbott is taking on the role of a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator. Garner is playing his wife, a character described as being a mother whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Following the recent trailer, Empire Magazine has shared a new official image from the upcoming Wolf Man reboot, and it finds Christopher Abbott's protagonist, Blake, beginning his Lycanthropic transformation.
Our first look at the titular werewolf via an actor in a costume at Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights was met with a lot of backlash, but the trailer did suggest that this will be the monster responsible for the initial attack, leaving Blake to change into a different beast altogether.
Director Leigh Whannell tells the mag that this movie represents his return to "pure horror" after working on Upgrade and The Invisible Man.
“Upgrade was more sci-fi action. I was watching a lot of domestic thrillers when I wrote The Invisible Man, because I love that genre. [Wolf Man] is me saying, ‘I just wanted to make something that is straight-up, pure horror.’”

Director Leigh Whannell (The Invisible Man) returns to the world of the Universal Monsters with next year’s Wolf Man, and Empire has shared a brand new image this week.
Additionally, the outlet sat down for a chat with Whannell that has been published in part this morning. Whannell promises that his Wolf Man is a straight up horror movie, for starters. He also teases that the new movie aims to bring something fresh to the werewolf sub-genre.
Whannell explains, “Upgrade was more sci-fi action. I was watching a lot of domestic thrillers when I wrote The Invisible Man, because I love that genre. [Wolf Man] is me saying, ‘I just wanted to make something that is straight-up, pure horror.’”
“I think of it as a companion piece to The Invisible Man,” he continues. “I didn’t want this film to be a nostalgic or a retro Wolf Man film in any way.
