Wiley's baby in the show was real. Jennette McCurdy said "Working with a baby on set was kind of difficult. Having that kind of responsibility and knowing that there was a baby around was a little tense".

The exterior shots of the 'Lake District Federal Prison' is actually a water treatment plant for the city of Toronto. The location has been doubled as a prison in over 15 TV series and films.
