Several pivotal scenes are so overacted that the audience was laughing. Slow motion is used almost every 5 minutes. Characters are underdeveloped. The protagonist is an extremely boring character due to an underwritten script. Plot is extremely predictable. I saw it with a large group of salceros and even they found it very poor in all regards.

Really dumb movie. Put your bias aside if you dance, are Latino, or a Democrat and actually tell yourself if those movie was any good.
Reality... it's not.

This movie is so compelling for me as salsa music promoter and as a Puerto Rican. In an era when Puerto Rican culture and population is ignored in many ways...this movie is an epic
The story itself mirrors so many stories in America and how the face of metropolitan cities is changing. The importance of family and togetherness. Loved the dancing! Great movie.

SHINE gives an accurate and authentic portrayal of the close-knit Latino and salsa community. We are greeted with rousing music that prepares the viewer for what is yet to come. The music pays tribute to the classics while introducing new titles. The dancing represents the evolution of a traditional art that now incorporates the acquired skills of spins, footwork (shines), and musicality-defined by punctuating the orchestration with corresponding accents in body and footwork. Most of the dancers are instantly recognizable to the global salsa community.
The movie spotlights an urban phenomenon that is responsible for much heartbreak. Gentrification is an American problem. SHINE reminds the viewer that those that have contributed tremendously to the cultural fabric of the collective American community are largely disregarded and considered dispensable. SHINE like any other movie is not for everyone. However music lovers, those that appreciate highly- skilled dancing, and Latinos everywhere must see this movie. Keep seated for the credits and revel in the number of Spanish surnames that appear. That is a rare occurrence but the gears have shifted. We will continue to SHINE.

Definite SHINE is done by Latinos for Latinos and those interested in learning more about our PRIDE, CULTURE and LATIN FLAVOR!! 🇵🇷
#SHINE - This movie simply exceeded my expectations. It's much more than just dancing; it's much bigger than another Hollywood Film; it represents our voices, our struggles, our identity, roots, our rights, family values, passion but most important our representation, contributions and existence as #Boricua y #Latinos.
This is an opportunity for the industry film in Hollywood and USA to open doors, respect and support an Authentic, Passionate, and FANTASTIC LATINO MOVIE. SHINE the MOVIE #LatinoDefiendeLoTuyo

Amazing movie it reminded me of my grandmother may her soul RIP she was alway reminding us where we came from & to alway love the family no martther what happened
A predictable but uplifting story set against the backdrop of Spanish Harlem, exploring the value of culture and family. Just the dancing makes this a movie worth seeing, not to mention a soundtrack I'm excited to buy. Very entertaining!

As a Salsa dancer/performer/instructor - I LOVED IT! GREAT dancing, BOMB music, and it was wonderful that so many of the Salsa world's TOP dancers were used for the dancing, as opposed to many shows/movies that simply use extras, or dancers from other genres...
The music and dancing are incredible! A great look into our Latino culture and our love of family, music and dance!

Dance movies all too often miss 2 very special elements: authenticity and message. SHINE is the exception. Capturing the very essence of "El Barrio" and delivering a real life look at family, community, the effects of gentrification, culture and the Salsa scene in Spanish Harlem, SHINE doesn't miss a beat! The theme revolved around the film is a problem affecting urban neighborhoods and responsible for the loss of family-owned businesses, culture and identity: gentrification. It is a reminder to us all that balance is what is needed in every aspect of our lives. One of the lines in the movie rings ever so true, "This aint no Step Up!" ... It sure isn't. It is so much more than than that. SHINE resonates with everyone striving to make their dreams a reality in this country and goes beyond cultural boundaries. It tugs at the heart strings and inspires nostalgia with its music. As for the dance scenes, they are FIRE and just pull you right in ... from the very beginning, the music sets the tone. SHINE gives an authentic look at the closeness Latino and Salsa community. Being a part of the dance community, I can attest to that. Salsa is so much more than a dance, so much more than a pastime, it's FAMILY, an escape from life's stresses and reality...if only for a moment. Seeing familiar faces setting the floor on fire was such a breath of fresh air.
If you love energetic dancing and amazing music, SHINE is a must see!

With so much assumption on those of us who are American with strong heritages behind us, this movie shares what it signifies to us.
It brought me back home and introduced my upbringing to my children.
An excellent depiction of the relationship our parents have with us and the foundation of culture their lay down for us and generations to come.

We really enjoyedthus for our regular couples date night. It was an entertaining way to spend the time and the music and dancing was great.
The best Latin dancing I have seen in a film. Great story but the authentic dance scenes are the main attraction.
