Like so many movies these days this started off pretty well and the acting wasnt as bad as some make out but the story needed a lot more work - it seemed to just degenerate into a stalk and slash with no actual thought for a story or any development further than the first 15 minutes in terms of characters or plot.
Sad because it could have been a modern female Deliverance if it had been done right. The producers should have taken a lesson from the excellent all female movie "The Descent" which is in my top 10 horrors and was a superb example of tension , terror and the descent into madness.
You have to laugh (and be careful) when checking out reviews on IMDB to decide whether to rent or not to rent a movie - check out all the 10/10 or even 8/10 reviews - they all have just one review under their belts and almost all at the same time - Why cant IMDB weed these out its obviously the makers or someone involved with the film. You can tell how desperate they are as soon as two bad honest reviews appear immediately two or three 10/10 ones appear but that cannot help it to skew the rating much as it still hits the 4 mark which is probably what it deserves.
Even the deaths were not remarkeable, you would think without a story they could have used some sense and provided us with some unusual death sequences.
To be fair the acting was ok , the scenery and photography were good but the male characters were not that convincing or threatening; even the mad, feral "Wrong Turn" nutter was about as frightening as a fanny bag!

I really don't know what's going on with the reviews these days: Quarries is in no way a 10,9,8 but also for certain no 1,2, or 3 rating.
Yes, one could say nothing new on the Western front regarding the plot but we get decent acting, the cam man knows his job, and for certain I don't expect dialogues and sophisticated plot-lines a la Tolstoi or Steinberg - if I watch a survival horror movie.
In short, Quarries is a decent movie about a bunch of girls hunted down by a bunch of crazy bad guys (hillbilly-style) in the wilderness. Solid but nothing special. I would have preferred more gore to spice things up for sure, but anyway, not every movie can or maybe even should suit a gorehound like me. My ultra precise rating: 5.5.

What's wrong with people giving this movie the highest rating possible? Are you related to somebody that made or was involved in this movie? I think it's not very mature to try to make people watch this movie if isn't good. And no it is not good at all. The acting is weak, nothing special to remember after watching their performances. But the worst is the story. It's basically a bunch of women being chased by a group of men in the woods. If they would at least take one minute to explain why they do such thing it might be better, but no apparently nobody thought this was necessary to explain. Also the men have like a dog human or whatever that follows their command, and again absolutely no explanations about how he became like that or anything. So giving this movie the highest rating possible is just foolish and dumb.

Initially there were 3 glowing reviews when I looked at Quarries on IMDb. Suspiciously, no listing on Netflix or Rotten Tomatoes, should have been a giveaway, that this film was probably not worth viewing. Those obviously "planted reviews" convinced me to give it a chance - please don't bother. Predictable plot with deranged men (laughably acted in some cases) chasing women that are not appealing, through the woods with murderous intent. Sound familiar. There's no new story angles here, no plot twists, no character buildup to make you feel any sympathy for the victims. I usually don't bother to review titles, but wanted to provide a service to others not to waste your time watching this garbage.

I really need to read more reviews before I watch a film as again I've been caught out by what I can only describe as the production team reviewing their own film.
Firstly to compare this to "Deliverance" is beyond a joke. The acting is poor, the characters are dull and predictable and the script is lacking.
If you look up cliché in a dictionary it would say "watch Quarries".
I gave it two stars because the white Ford mini bus they had was the same as the one I hired when in Florida last year and it reminded me of a great family holiday. The film however reminded me of the black and white films my Gran would watch on a Saturday afternoon, usually asleep.
Not a film for me.

Normally I wouldn't waste my time reviewing a movie like this, but I feel like someone needs to offset that other review which absolutely raves about this and gives it a 10/10. Note that that's that reviewer's *only* review to date (how'd ya like that use of "that"? :) That review was apparently written by the director's significant other or best friend because this movie is, at best, mediocre. Basically, a bunch of women get chased around in the woods and bloodied up. Empowerment!

It states written by , i really wonder what was actually written !!
It's the same in 1000's of these films . A load of blokes who are always filthy looking decide to kill people for no particular reason . Taking pleasure in it , nothing about it's well done , neither , frightening , exciting or thrilling. Just the same done badly

The paramedic Katherine "Kat" (Nicole Marie Johnson) joins an expedition through the wilderness composed by women and led by Jean (Sara Mornell). Most of the women are problematic and the objective is to share the experience of living together in the nature for a couple of days. However there is a fire in the woods and Jean is forced to change the traditional route per another through an unknown area. Jean, Kat, Wren (Carrie Finklea), Madison (Leisha Hailey), April (Nicole DuPort), Joy (Joy McElveen) and Brit (Rebecca Colette McFadzien) start walking while Jean's partner drives his van to the destination to bring them back. However a group of psychopaths live in the area and they hunt the women down. Will someone survive?
"Quarries" is an entertaining thriller with strong female characters. The plot is predictable and not original, but the conclusion surprises since this type of slasher usually ends with only one (or none) survivor. The rednecks are psychopath but there is no development of who they are. The women are reasonably developed. The IMDb Rating is not fair but there are many overrated reviews including a ridiculous comparison with the classic "Deliverance". My vote is six.

I saw some reviewer comparing it to "Deliverance". How I wish that was true. The movie could have been nice if they showed something. Probably some cuts were made to receive a more friendly rating. So what's left is a simple story, some bad dialogue, some wooden acting and some OK acting. Nothing new. Could have been much better though....... if they only would have watched the classic "Deliverance" before they started filming;-)

Excellent character play on basic story line, well directed , good steady pick up on the action. The characters are believable, the production scenery and woods environment plays perfect;y I to the narrative of life and death.
Very much in the suspense of the first Friday 13th and Halloween genre. The escalation Nd blood trail coupled with suspense leaves a shock factor, conclusion. 8 of 10

This is a good film (it's not Deliverance) But it stands alone as a great well shot film. All the characters are well played and believable. The baddies are bad and the violence makes this a good scary film . Why the bad reviews ? It seems some just troll films on here now .. I think we should be able to see what other films they review (0r at least IMDb should monitor it / them) likewise with overly good reviews .. see a pattern ?. Anyway this has characters that all put in the effort to make this a good drama action horror .. not seen a film like this since 'Descent' .. for good women action kick ass movie .. by the way the monsters in this film are men !! Gave it 9 to out balance the stupid reviews this in my opinion should be a 6/7 just because it keeps you watching and interested in the people and the situation.
I know there is nothing new here, I've watched several movies similar to this one. I have to say that this one was well made. The acting was good, no stupid lines in the script to speak of and the camera work was good. The characters were all likable for the most part. Worth watching even if you've seen the story before.

Another installment of the cliché 'hillbillies killing everyone in the middle of nowhere for no reason' sorry excuse for thrillers, this 'movie' is COMPLETELY AVOIDABLE. Don't believe the handful of glowing reviews which are undoubtedly fake reviews by crew/ cast members/ paid agencies. Writing anything more on this movie would be wasting more time I will never get back....

This Movie is crap.
Its only about killing, nothing else. I cant understand the Point of making this movie.
Its not exciting and its a b movie - independent or not .
The Only good thing with this movie is that your don't have to be Einstein to watch it,the more stupid you are,the better your like the movie... I guess.. Well,There is actually one more thing which is good with this movie and that is that there are strong women portrayed in this movie, but It would be Nice to see a movie for once, where the women never scream..

The horror channel buys blocks of films and this is some of the worst dirge I have ever seen there. The script was written with a green crayon by a seven year old and it is more predictable than an advent calendar. Waste your life if you truly must.

The film tells the story of a group of women who travel to their forests terrorized by a group of male maniacs and sexual predators ... The film is entertaining, even though it has a predictable storyline.

Quarries is a great indie thriller, free of clichés, jump scares or impossible moments. Thought the story has a slow buildup, it was not boring, you are stuck to the screen seeing how it unfolds.
Character development is great, with more than a half dozen characters where halfway in, you know 'who' they are, not an easy task to accomplish in an 80+ minute film.
A group of women, each with their personal reasons take wilderness expedition for self-discovery. A fire in the woods makes the guide, from the beginning, change the route they will take. This leads Kat (main character) and the group of half a dozen other women to travel unknown paths where a cult-like group of hunters prey.
It builds up slow as the battle between them for petty things, basically just trying to be civil and get along for the few days they'll be together; to them needing to find each other's strengths and trust each other to escape uncertain doom.
Acting is top notch, as is directing and photography. One would think a 'horror' film set in the woods would make it easy to fall into overused plot devices, clichés, jump scares, and the sort. I've seen this movie marketed as horror, but I would call it more of a thriller.
This is a great surprise gem and I would recommend it to any horror/thriller fans.

Sometimes a trip is quite something different than you would imagine. As another reviewer said, this starts off pretty good. I also agree that it sort of drifts off towards the end. I don't think it's that bad, that I would go for 4 out of 10 like he/she did.
But you should be aware that this tries to juggle a lot of things, with the characters, with the female vs male things and the violence itself. If you have a querry it would not be surprising (pun not intended). Try to watch with an open mind if you like horror thrillers and you may be entertained quite nicely overall.

Wilderness shocker. A group of young female hikers, all of whom have personal issues, encounter a bunch of muttering, psycho rednecks, including one who runs around on all fours like an animal. Apart from the obligatory opening death scene the first half is all about character build up, must say that up to this point I didn't have very high expectations. But then, halfway through, the suspense and non-stop bloody violence begins. And it never really lets up, right through to the end. It is well done and makes Quarries worth a watch, that is if you like such movies. Plot is minimal and this story line has been done many times before, this is no Deliverance for sure. But if you love slasher movies then Quarries is a decent enough 80 minutes, Great use of the natural scenery, overall I was quite impressed.
