Lincoln, a bullied rock kid, is sent out to a reform school out in the desert after sticking a fork in the face of one of his tormentors. Unfortunately the bullying starts all over again, however the spirit of a bullied dead girl called Moira just happens to be on hand to carry out bloody revenge on his new tormentors, often by razor blade. Quite an interesting idea. Can't help but feel sorry for this guy, though he does find comfort in the arms of a beautiful girl. Some fairly good gore to be seen, acting and production values both reasonable. Look out for a short mid-credits scene. Pretty average overall.

The cover/poster was very unnerving and the advertising likewise. Really liked the concept too, not an original one perhaps but it sounded really intriguing and was already admiring it tackling a heavy and daring theme that resonated with me, having been badly bullied myself. All those things were enough to make want to see it.
'Some Kind of Hate' turned out not to be a great film, there are issues here. But for a low-budget horror recent viewing as part of one of my many quests recently, 'Some Kind of Hate' is easily up there with the few ones that was actually decent. When it comes to the reviews, can see both sides, found it to be a film with obvious strengths but also one that is easy to find fault with. Am one of those whose feelings are mutual, but admired what it set out to do, it doesn't waste its idea and its tackling of the theme was brave.
Lets start with the good things. 'Some Kind of Hate' looks good, there is a sense of dark unsettlement, some very creepy gore and make-up, the editing was at least cohesive and the photography not trying to do too much but having enough to stop it being static. The music is suitably ominous and there is tension, creepiness and suspense when the film gets going. The second half is very unnerving and boasts some well-timed and inventive kills.
The acting is much better than average, with the standout performances coming from Grace Phipps and especially Sierra McCormick, the latter being both frightening and poignant. Did find myself identifying with Lincoln, having been a bully victim and being introverted, though Moira is more interesting and should have had the bigger focus. Was at least engaged for much of the duration, had no trouble understanding what was going on, was emotionally invested and at no point was my intelligence insulted.
As aforementioned, there are drawbacks too. The first third is a bit slow and ordinary, it could have gotten to the point quicker and had less of the slightly dull setting up. The script is quite a big weakness, it is not always easy to take it seriously, there is some awkwardness and cheese and it could have been tighter.
It is agreed that some of the film does get silly, didn't buy some of the victims/bullies' reactions before their fates, no sense of genuine fright and with a too "trying to make conversation at a reunion" chemistry, that does undermine the build up somewhat. The sound quality is not always well balanced with it tending to favour the music. Would have liked more development to the characters, only Lincoln and Moira are developed quite well while the others are fairly sketchy despite the film doing a good job making one hate them.
All in all, better than expected though not without things to criticise. 6/10 Bethany Cox

The first 30 minutes are really solid, which is more like a psychological drama-thriller than anything else.
But on the 30 minute mark that changes and it throws a supernatural twist on you which feels really random and took me out of the movie for a bit, but once I accepted that this is what the movie is like now I slowly but safely started getting into it again.
And even though the movie most certainly is not without it's flaws I must say that this wasn't too bad of a watch, even though it's nothing spectacular but yeah I've seen hundreds of horrors that are a lot worse than this for sure... Seen hundreds that are better as well but that's beyond the point lol.
And the acting is pretty good, and the gore is excellent, one complaint would be that occasionally the cast speak really low and it's hard to hear over the dark melodies being played in the background but overall not too shabby, better than I expected considering the rating of (currently) 4.6/10 for sure.
5.5/10 from me, or rounded up to a 6.

30th September 2015.
Mark this date in your calendar fans... For it's a historic occasion indeed.
For this is the day... I officially stop wasting my life taking chances on movies that may or may not be buckets of s***e...
And, stick to the classics.
(Okay, I'll be able to watch the odd dire obscurity... I do SO enjoy mocking them, you know. But really, life is too short to do that a lot...)
And, what of the flick that provoked this sudden change in policy?
Well I liked precisely three things in it: 1. The girl ghostie's razor blade necklace. 2. A cool throat slashing murder scene. 3. A lady getting her brains blown out.
That's it, folks. The rest is just tiresome nonsense about the most lax 'reform' wilderness school in the world, where apparently the criminals are free to have sex all day, smoke and beat each other up. Not surprising... Considering there's only three staff for an entire squadron of ruffians.
Oh, I forgot... They have their phones taken away...
...Which are easily retrieved later by our goth hero by simply going into an office and rummaging around in a cardboard box.
Not exactly boot camp, then...
Is it really worth me bemoaning the non-dimensional characters, the inexplicable behaviour they display throughout and the total absence of anything approaching enjoyment here?
No, it isn't.
I'll simply label it as 'GARBAGE' and move on with my life.
Simple, really.
Ciao. 2/10

I didn't think this was a horrible movie, but I could feel that this was an attempt for some of the Disney stars try to break away from their previous "goody goody" roles that they are well known for. I can say that at least the acting was much better here than it was there. It is interesting to me to see what direction these guys go in order to escape from the company. I'm interested in seeing what the future holds for them. I just hope they do not go crazy as we have seen in the past. Otherwise, the movie to me seemed alright, albeit a little slow paced. There could have been more character development in the protagonist. I also felt the "cheerleader" wasn't really believable. I don't see a person like that trying to see what it is like to be the victim. When we first meet her, she is hugging up to a bully, yet she says she hates them. Does anyone else see a problem with this?
It sickens me to see how poorly people rate horror movies these days. I once belonged to a group of horror movie fans, but now I am alone.
Don't get me wrong. I hate B-movies. I hate the majority of Redbox horror movies that most people have not heard of. But this movie is truly something good and special, and to see it thrown in the gutter by people who I would have trusted as my horror loving peers, has disappointed me.
I remember seeing "It follows" a couple years back and I thought it rocked. It was a throw back to 80s horror that I really appreciated it. So I did some google searches looking for the next "It Follows". That is when I came across my first internet review of Some Kind of Hate.
When I watched it, I was not disappointed. I guess you could call this film a cult horror classic, since it is apparent from other reviews, that a very unique clique of people will appreciate this film for what it offers.
From storyline, to acting, to environment, to just the feel and soundtrack and nature of the film, I really enjoyed it. If I was looking at these IMDb reviews, I would never have given it a chance.
The plot and dialogue is simple, but interesting. One of the main characters is victim is extreme bullying. Karma takes spiritual form and comes back with a vengeance. It's not filled with the gore and special effects throughout the movie you might see in most horror movies that make it to the big screen, but its got story and heart. For the record, I would give it 1 star less than It Follows. But this still is a good movie, worthy of re-watching over the years.

Not the worst waste of time I've ever sat through. Cinematography was alright, gore was good, but that's about the nicest thing I can come up with. The protagonist, Lincoln, doesn't get a name until 40 minutes into this dog. We learn his girlfriend's name about 30 minutes in. Nothing really builds in all that time. Obviously, we're not intended to see the "good" kid as a totally sympathetic character, but his motivations are always pretty much a mystery. The "bad" kids, they get about 5 minutes of being mean and the rest of the film tries to be totally overwrought, but really just meanders. And nevermind that not a single one of the kids in this film looks younger than 28 (excepting Grace Phipps). The teachers looked younger than all the kids, but that's no big deal for a lot of high school slasher flicks that at least TRY to convince us that their goings-on are worth caring about. This was a boring one- gimmick piece of trash that should have just been deleted from the directors hard drive to free up space. I'd hoped to hear the Misfits tune that is this film's namesake, but licensing rights cost money. Too bad, just this once, that titles can't be licensed.

Some Kind of Hate is a not half bad B horror.
The premise is not that novel but different enough to be interesting. I suspect this titles primary audience is late teens and twenty somethings. Those who are fresh enough from school to still remember how horrible and cruel other teens can be.
The main character is a supernatural entity who is summoned by the pain of bullied, victimized teens. The storyline is pretty basic but it builds quite well. That said, the violence and self abuse scenes can be a bit on the harsh side at times.
For a B title the acting is quite good too. The whole cast but, in particular, the male and female lead and the girl who plays the vengeful spirit, really offer up decent performances.
Combine all these elements and you have a reasonable horror flick on your hands. Six out of ten from me.

Decent watch, might watch again, but can't honestly recommend.
This is not a great movie, and it is impressive breaking in the sense that it takes real problems and an example of awful real places, so it's hard to get on board right away.
Once the setting is established, the majority of what's good about the movie is the ridiculously gratuitous gore and violence being exacted on the horrible characters.
By far, Sierra McCormick is the best actor in this movie. She does such a good job exemplifying a tragic ghost, but since all the adults are just awful, and there are only 2 decent actors out of the rest of the teens, it is a little hard to tell how good she is.
Again, this is more of an elaborate survival situation, which is more of an excuse show teens getting slashed.
So if that doesn't work for you, don't watch this.

Some Kind os Hate is a clear example of I want to and I can't. An example of I have the idea but either I lack the resources and/or talent to carry it out in a worthy way. It is an example of good script, weak casting (although it doesn't help that I have seen it in such a poor Spanish dubbed version) and a direction that stays between two waters, those of the mystery and those of the slasher without getting clear at any time, making the plot insipid and drowning in that sea of doubts.
The bullying theme is not taken too seriously when it should be its main weapon.
The good: The short length and some bloody scenes.
The bad: It's forgotten as soon as it's over.

The lack of self-reflection on the part of the makers of this film scares me. Every line delivered might as well be the cliché of "Life is pain!" All the bullies are shallow douche bags that are too easy to hate and the protagonist is so drab and 'poor me' that you just want him to top himself inside of five minutes of watching him on screen.
The acting and effects are what you would expect but don't drag the film down anywhere near as much as the poor writing, which really does seem like it came from an angst-ridden teenager. In some ways you could say that this makes the film an accurate portrayal of the characters involved, but all it serves to do is make everyone unlikeable and each scene cringe-inducing in its transparency.
Overall this film will only really please those who identify with this kind of mindset, at one point the 'hero' talks about how he'd love to get a tank and crush all the people that he hates, and we are supposed to sympathise with this! Otherwise this movie is a pain to watch, recommended only for joke viewings with friends, just so long as they aren't in their own angsty teenage phase.

My very first review on here.
The movie was definitely decently gory. It comes into problems because there are too many characters, but it brings something a bit different than the average horror movie.
Be ready for a low budget, and a lot of teen angst, as well as a somewhat slow start. But if you know what it was like to be bullied, this film can hit some cores in your memory.
No nudity, which is a bit sad, especially with the obvious sexual undertones in the film, but what can you say
It's independent and it shows. But it's good for a rent or a Netflix when you have nothing better to do. Just be ready for the angst.

I lasted until halfway through this film. The whole thing was just so unlikely. Well, obviously; a vengeful spirit and all is not generally accepted as being real. But the coed jail camp, where the kids easily meet for casual sex? You'd need to do some kind of world-building for that one.

I had issues with this movie too. With its handling of the characters, with some clichés (or a lot) thrown into the mix and how it seems to evolve too. But it's in the title and it's not about how much you'd like to like the main character. I guess if you had to endure and live through certain circumstances, you might not be right in the head either. But it's about more than that.
It's about making things right, it's about not being understood and it's about bottled up anger, that once finally released ... well it'll be difficult to bottle up again. Or get it under any kind of containment. One thing is for sure: this isn't for everybody. If you can oversee the flaws or rather live with them, you might be able to discover a very raw diamond in the making

The first half drags with not a lot of action as we're introduced to a bunch of adult-looking kids that we don't really care for.
The second half is an illogical story with plenty of plot holes, but lots of blood and gore done very well. Unfortunately there are no jump-scares, no twists and some questionable acting.
You've probably seen worse films but you'll be wishing it was much better.

-1 Star For the 2nd Bully being unbelievable. Bad Writing
-1 Star For the Annoying Unbeatable All Knowing Spirit Antagonist
This movie takes two current subjects of popular angst, bullying and cutting , and ties them to a supernatural rage / revenge movie. A Ghost comes back from the dead and starts killing everyone. It starts out alright but probably before halfway through you really don't care about anyone at all and you just hope everyone will get killed by the Antagonist mentioned above.
