The late Andre Braugher’s now-final project — Shondaland’s comedic murder-mystery The Residence — remains unfinished thanks to a shut down sparked by the WGA strike months prior. Although the series had been gearing up to resume production, Braugher’s death Tuesday raises significant questions for the Netflix series’ future.
Four episodes of its eight-episode order were shot during the early days of the writers strike more than six months ago, Deadline reports. While the series is slated to resume shooting Jan. 2, it’s unclear if that date will stick, as producers must now figure out how to proceed without the actor.

Tiffany Haddish is opening up about how her previous money struggles still impact her decisions around her career and finances today. In a new interview with Cosmopolitan, the comedian and actor revealed that she used her "Girls Trip" paycheck to finish paying off her house, even when others told her not to.
Haddish explained that a lot of her decisions around money are influenced by her fear of being broke and homeless again. "So immediately when I started making a little bit of money doing things like Tyler Perry's 'If Loving You Is Wrong' and 'The Carmichael Show,' I started trying to figure out how to create generational wealth. The fastest way to do it and the first way you should go about doing it is buy some land," she said. "So before we even got into season 2 of 'The Carmichael Show,' I bought a house.

Exclusive: Tribeca and Comedy Dynamics are reteaming for a slate of 10 stand-up comedy specials to be filmed at the Tribeca Film Festival, which runs June 9-20 in New York City.
The two entities partnered up in early 2020 to produce original stand-up comedy specials that were slated to be filmed at the annual fest. But after Covid restrictions took hold nationwide, they pivoted and evolved the indoor festival into an outdoor comedy drive-in set across the country at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Tribeca x Comedy Dynamics Drive-In featured hourlong comedy sets from Ester Steinberg, Dave Helem, Erica Rhodes and Daniel Webb — the first set of drive-in comedy specials filmed in the midst of the pandemic.

The upcoming “Fantasy Island” reboot at Fox has added its first two cast members, Variety has learned.
Kiara Barnes and John Gabriel Rodriguez will both star in the series, which was ordered straight-to-series at Fox back in December.
The new series is described as a modern semi-anthology series that delves into the “what if” questions, both big and small, that keep us awake at night. Each episode will tell stories about people who walk in with a desire, but end up reborn to themselves through the magical realism of Fantasy Island.
Barnes will play Ruby Okoro. Described as warm and wise, Ruby is a young woman with an old soul. She arrives on Fantasy Island with a terminal illness, but Roarke and the island give her a new lease on life.

The Bold and the Beautiful star Kiara Barnes has been cast as a series regular and John Gabriel Rodriquez (If Loving You Is Wrong) as heavily recurring in Fantasy Island, Fox’s contemporary version of the classic drama series that has a straight-to-series order to air this summer. The project hails from writer-producers Liz Craft and Sarah Fain as well as Sony Pictures TV and its Gemstone Studios label, which co-produce with Fox Entertainment.
Actress-singer Barnes has been tapped for Fantasy Island as she is finishing her last year on CBS’ long-running daytime drama The Bold and the Beautiful, Deadline has learned. Barnes, who has played Zoe Buckingham since 2018, will be wrapping production on the soap soon.
The reboot is keeping the semi-anthological format of the original Fantasy Island with three main characters, two played by Barnes and Rodriquez, who live/work on the island and new guests arriving in every episode.

Tyler Perry is Variety‘s 2020 Showman of the Year. For the full cover story, click here.
Tyler Perry’s career as a TV producer came full circle earlier this year, when the first series he became truly known for, “House of Payne,” returned to the airwaves after an almost decade-long absence.
Reflecting on his prolific run to date as a producer, Perry says the response to the new season of “House of Payne” on BET has “blown me away,” especially given how significant the project has always been for him.
In 2006, Perry produced 10 syndicated episodes of “House of Payne” before TBS picked up the series for an additional 90. Tyler Perry Studios president of production and development Michelle Sneed, who has worked with Perry since 2009, says an order of that magnitude was “groundbreaking and unprecedented.”
