Yeah it was generic!

But come on, well all know what we are in for when we sit down to watch a movie such as "Girls Trip", don't we? Yet, there is something alluring about them. Perhaps it is the chance that this particular movie turns out to be the undiscovered diamond in the rough.

The storyline in "Girls Trip" was something much similar to what had been done before in other movies in the same genre. However, there was just something entertaining about the movie which made it work.

"Girls Trip" had an interesting ensemble of cast, which includes Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith and Tiffany Haddish. I must admit that these actresses were really well-cast for this movie, because they brought a lot of laughs, charms and energy to the movie.

A good combination of acting performances from a good cast and a wholehearted - albeit generic - storyline made for a nice watch.

"Girls Trip" is another "women can be raunchy too" comedy, one that from the trailer didn't look funny at all, but hey…at least they don't kill a stripper in this one (Rough Night).

Here, best friends who have only grown further apart since High School are hoping to reconnect at the Essence Festival in New Orleans.

They're all basically types. Regina Hall has the most to work with as the one who only thinks she has it all together. The rest are the crazy one (Tiffany Haddish), obsessive one (Jada Pinkett), and gossipy one (Queen Latifah).

Through it all the girls will be brought on stage to dance with Puffy, have a dance-off with another set of girls, get into many fist fights and all kinds of other trouble.

It will also go for the most R-rated and nasty of crude jokes.

People I saw this movie with laughed through out at all of it and for their part, all four of these women embarrass themselves and get down and dirty very well.

Particularly this Tiffany Haddish, who will either annoy you or be your favorite part. She goes to some darkly funny places here the characters in Suicide Squad could only dream of.

But for all this talk of women in comedy, doing the same dick jokes men have been doing for so long really shouldn't be the apex. This is really just conquering a mole hill.

And please no more comedies that go over 2 hours long, particularly one like this where the plot suddenly has to kick in in the last half hour and it's just as generic as every other comedy about friendship.

On the one hand this is all really flimsy stuff which I got kinda tired of after 90 minutes, but it's also fun, tries hard for laughs, is very well cast and Hall has some good scenes in the last half.

I'd give it 6 out of 10 but I think if you can get past the clichés and you like toilet humor for a more than necessary period of time, you'll enjoy it a bit more.

This movie pretends to be a funny movie like "the Hangover" but than with four black woman. The movie is however not funny at all and in fact the character Dina is very annoying throughout the whole movie . There is a lot of shouting going on and a this seems to be typical for a lot of black people. The movie is way too long and the story has some flaws but it pretends to be a comedy so who gives a damn? As long as you can laugh it does not matter but in this movie there are no laughs at all but only a state of irritation which grows by the minute. Only the end is alright although predictable. If you insist on seeing this movie than rent it on DVD so you press fast forward now and than just as I did to reach the end of this dumb movie a lot quicker.

A girl's trip. A novelty idea that starts out so innocent, but can turn down the wilder side. Rough Night already attempted to depict this concept earlier this summer, but it didn't quite deliver the punch it wanted. So, this weekend, another (almost identical) movie tries the concept again, and we can only hope it's more successful. Robbie K reporting again on another movie review to give you the 411 on films. LIKES:

Good Pace: Many raunchy comedies, and let's face it there are plenty of them, often have either too quick a pace, or drag out exponentially. Girls Trip gets the pace right though, keeping things fun and entertaining, without getting stuck on a scene or sequence for too long. I found myself engaged in the movie and thoroughly enjoyed the fun at hand in the Flossy Posse adventure. It's nice to see things progress at an adequate rate and breathe some life into a plot that was dead of originality. And speaking of plot…

Story: Believe it or not, comedies can still have a story and make you laugh. Despite what the trailers promised, Girls Trip has a plot that creates a foundation for the laughs to spring off of and keep it grounded with a relevant purpose. I'd be lying if I didn't say there are times they go all out for comedy, however much of it goes with the flow of the story and is relevant to the plot. Past the comedy though, the story is another heartfelt romp about friendship and love, going down the usual avenues that we've seen a hundred times. One unique feature though is how all of the girls' problems interconnect and cause drama to offset the mischief at hand. The result is a dynamic relationship between the ladies, and the extras surrounding them, that feels relevant, relatable, and realistic on many levels. So, nice to see this in a comedy again.

Acting: Characters are good, but they require acting to come to life. Rough Night failed to emphasize the acting and traded their talent for quick laughs. This film learned from that mistake and encouraged them to act like characters with more depth. Regina Hall has the drama acting down pat, being emotional while also steering from the overacting. Queen Latifah brings her sass back to the mix, a little edgier, but nonetheless the same style that works for these roles. Tiffany Haddish is like the Rebel Wilson in this film. She works well for comedic relief, and her loyal, unfiltered edge is executed well at most parts. My favorite is Jada Pinkett Smith who presents the most balanced character of the bunch and played the broadest spectrum of the bunch. Their chemistry mixes well and really represents a girl squad who has drama, but has each other's' back.

Comedy: A small, but important note, is that the comedy is well executed and quite balanced for this reviewer. Sure, much of the theme is sexual natured, but fortunately the crassness of the jokes varies depending on the character. There are some other comedic devices presented that are fun, but what's nice is that comedy is balanced and not the center piece.

DISLIKES:

The Language: Yeah, no surprise, I don't like strong focus on cursing. Girls Trip sadly falls victim to using the F bomb, alongside a few other derogatory devices, for much of their conversation. While not the worst I've seen, the writing could have used a few rewrites to add some class and more memorable lines to the mix. But Lazy writing still brought a lot of laughs to the group so it's probably not the biggest factor for most.

The Uncensored moments: Despite the change up of delivery, and the dynamic nature of the women…much of the comedy is focused on sex. While this comedy is not my particular style, it can be entertaining, when executed at the right times. There are points where Girls Trip gets really nasty though and drops the class for cheap laughs and gimmicks. In particular, Haddish's character gets old at times and her raunchy moments got old at times (though not as much as seeing near naked men and their organs).

Endgame/Lack of Originality: With all the good pacing and delivery of this movie, you would think there would be a strong endgame. Unfortunately, Girls Trip kind of dropped the ball in the last twenty minutes when they threw a big wrench into the gears. At this point a lot of tension is introduced, only to have it immediately resolved in a rather lackluster manner. The final resolution has emotional power behind it, but it was very unoriginal and lacking the cleanup I expected from our ladies. Not the consistency I had hoped for, but still not the worse conclusion I've seen this weekend.

The Verdict:

Despite my low expectations, Girl's Trip is surprisingly very entertaining. A well-paced, story- focused comedy is in store for those who come to see this film in the theater. The cast keeps the movie fun, and the story is both emotional and entertaining to watch, especially with the comedy that goes in tangent with it. However, despite the entertainment value in it, Girl's Trip still has some areas to improve upon including comedy diversity, classing up the lines/censorship, and maybe working on an endgame. Regardless, this movie hits its target audience well and is a fun adventure that I hope will stand at just one movie (no sequel needed). Worth the trip to the theater? In terms of comedy this summer, yes this is one of the ones to see. Yet, there is nothing theater worthy to call for the expensive tickets.

In 2017, we haven't had too many successful comedies. We've had our fair share of action comedies, and unintentionally bad film that end up comedies, but there wasn't any competition on the horizon. Then this summer came word about two films involving a group of women out for a great time around the same time, one is Rough Night and the other is Girls Trip. Rough Night, even with its star power, really had trouble finding a audience, even many saying the actors lacked the needed chemistry and ultimately fizzled out over time. So Girls Trip had a lot to prove not just to Hollywood but also that fans could get a fun ride.

The film involves 4 friends known as the "Flossy Posse", who have all known each other since college and hadn't been together for almost 5 years due to life changes and personal issues. But Ryan (Regina Hall) gets a keynote speaker offer at the Essence Festival In New Orleans and uses this is a chance to rekindle with her girls on have a great weekend.

First off, all 4 girls have great chemistry together. A film like this has to sell that the girls are all having a good time and the infectious energy in scenarios and their performances really works well for this kind of movie. Tiffany Haddish definitely came to play in this movie, delivering a large percentage of the laugh out loud moments (and trust me, she has more than 4 big moments in this film). It takes some time for the other characters to keep up with her energy, but it works fine in the context of the film as they start to let their hair down, particularly Jada Pinkett Smith as a mom who has built a conservatively safe lifestyle, which gets broken quick when Kofi Sidobe comes on screen (yes, ladies he's on screen for some time).

The biggest issue with this film is no matter how funny this film gets, I can't shake the fact that the plot is so familiar and generically melodramatic. The director Malcolm D. Lee also did The Best Man Holiday and format wise, the film plays almost verbatim in the same format (introduce characters, someone is cheating and every action they do proves it, someone does something behind their "closest friends" back, the typical sermon speech about friendship for 3 minutes.....you get the idea). And also, this film is 10-15 minutes too long as the 122 minute runtime lets a couple jokes go on for too long and has some moments of filler in between along with the overdone joke of "it's funny cause they don't know how to use slang talk."

Girl's Trip nonetheless is a fun trip with likable leads. If it had a shorter tighter cut, and a plot that didn't take itself so seriously in the third act, the ride wouldn't be too bumpy. Still get your friends and let the Posse take you on a ride.

This movie is an insult to the entire black community. It is FILLED with racial stereotypes, unnecessary foul language and revolting sight gags.

Perhaps the writers were intending on capitalizing on the success of 'Bridesmaids' with this horrible movie. The worst thing is the screen time they wasted on four phenomenal actresses ~ and their dignity.

Simply awful.

This movie is absolutely funny from start to finish. The Black actresses are cute and multi-talented.

Girls Trip is an adult movie with nudity scene and adult language and not suitable for anyone whose age is below 17.Nevertheless,it will make you laugh out loudly and definitely will cheer you up if you are sad.

The film's plot follows the story of four lifelong friends on a long- overdue weekend getaway trip to New Orleans for the annual Essence Music Festival. Their sisterhood is rekindled and wild sides are rediscovered, with nights of partying, hook-ups and bad decisions, as well as raw and vulnerable moments that strengthen their bond.

Recommended for audience whose age is 17+ NC17.

My initial reaction to this was really positive but now that I did think about it, it had issues. The story wasn't really that original but the movie was entertaining enough. I really liked the bond those four had and I love that they managed to talk about their issues and resolved them in the end. There were cringy moments and there were moments where I wanted to hit two of the characters (Ryan for not prioritizing herself, Dina for just being ugh) but I really did enjoy some parts. Plus, I found Lisa adorable.

I went into it with a good feeling about it. The trailer looked like the film was going to be real entertaining, but this was better than I expected.

It's funny that Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett Smith are not more centered stage in this movie as I though they were bigger stars than that, but I forget Regina Hall has made quite a name for herself in the last few years. The film centers around her character, Ryan who gathers her crew who she has not scene for years to an event in New Orleans so that they can reconnect.

All the women were funny in this movie but special shout out to Tiffany Haddish who I've never herd of before this movie but will never forget. She gave it all to get the big laughs just like Melissa McCarthy did in Bridesmaids.

Nothing's more funnier than watching women get down and dirty about things that would not be considered proper etiquette. I want to see it all and I got that from Girls Trip. This had me laughing from beginning to end. It's hilarious. Plus it's a good movie about friends hanging with each other. You get the vibe from all the characters that they have been down for one another forever, and it gives you that good feeling.

I love to laugh in a packed theater, and am very forgiving in my ratings of comedies overall because I think it's a lot tougher to make a truly funny comedic film than any other genre. Most importantly, then, "Girls Trip" does deliver some genuine gut-busting, hilarious moments, but, at over two hours long, it bogs down during some repetitive, too-similar gags, and especially during the more sentimental moments. Toward the end some of those scenes even feel tacked-on, and slow the pace waaaay down--and I was so pulled out of the film's momentum I even had time to notice the otherwise wonderful ensemble seemed to get kind of bored performing those sentimental scenes. It would've really benefited from, say, a 90-minute running time, likely resulting in a non-stop hoot of a film that still told the whole story effectively. Another problem with finally seeing the film after having seen multiple versions of trailers for the film over the past few months is one that bugs the heck out of me (but, of course, is the fault of the marketing department and trailer editor, not the film itself): many of the best scenes and punch lines were in the trailers, so viewers who've seen the trailers get a kind of "deja vu" feeling watching much of the film--because you've already seen and heard so many of the funniest moments and punchlines. Overall, though, I do absolutely recommend the film for fans of raunchy, R-rated comedies (especially if you haven't seen the trailers beforehand), and do recommend viewers see it in a packed theater if possible--it delivers enough of a good time that it's well worth your time and money, and it's a joy to see these actresses having so much fun--for most of the film's run time.

Ryan (Regina Hall) has a high media profile and is on the verge of a big business deal.

Ryan feels she has drifted away from her old friends and wants to reconnect with The Flossy Posse so she brings them back together for a trip to New Orleans and a music festival.

Her friends include Sasha (Queen Latifah) a struggling internet gossip columnist with money troubles. Lisa (Jada Pinkett Smith) a stay at home mother, living a conservative lifestyle. Dina (Tiffany Haddish) is a sex crazed party girl and none too bright.

Trouble ensues as there is a rumoured photo circulating that Ryan's husband has been cheating on her.

The film is really wants to be a black female version of The Hangover or Bridesmaids. It really is an unfunny comedy, some of the gross out gags have been done better in other films. This really is a mess with zero comedy and a story that is cliched and dull.

Excruciating This started poorly like Girl's Night, transitioned to Soul Plane(Not a compliment), then continue on its downward descent into diarrhea territory until it finally hit the can and then I hit flush.

THis was a poor attempt at comedy. Each character was poorly acted. What could go wrong, 4 women, Black women at that meet each other after years of being apart due to their careers? Sounds familiar? **COUGH**Rough Night***COUCH****GHostbusters***COUGH***Bad Moms***Cough!!!!! What trash and it never stops being trash from badly delivered lines, to poorly written sketches where they describe hurting a man's penis, punching men, and being ghetto as possible in the most unfunny way. No one was a character who you really like and we have seen this movie before.

THis movie is about women are powerful, smart and struggle to pay bills, yet holding really nice jobs while men are scumbags and insert the clichés.

POORLY DONE and NOT RECOMMENDED!

I got a real 'Sex And The City' vibe from this film. Considering they didn't have 6 seasons to build up the characters, I think they've done really well. I don't know how many takes they must have gone through with Dina at the breakfast table, but I couldn't stop laughing. If you do decide to watch the film, pay close attention to Queen Latifah's voice. It's divine, I could listen to it all day.

The level of writing and acting is so low here, that I can't imagine anyone enjoying it. I gave it 40 minutes and I couldn't take it any longer

I had been anticipating watching this movie since I first saw the trailer. I love this movie!! I saw it with my closest girl friends and we laughed out loud throughout the entire movie. I will definitely watch this again and again. The story was great and the characters were a lot of fun to watch. The cast was absolutely perfect and I don't think they could've done a better job casting this movie. I had no idea Tiffany Haddish was so funny! I appreciate a great FEEL GOOD story like this one and I love that the bond of the characters is one that inspires women to stick together and support one another. Well done!

So glad I did not waste my money going to the theater to see this. Most of the cast I like, but most of the movie was just over the top stupid. I really hope that save their money and not make a Part 2.

I just saw this yesterday with my wife and I wanted to see it more than her. It was absolutely hilarious. I grew up watching Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett, and Regina hall. Tiffany Haddish was amazing as the funny as hell / silly friend she portrays. Haddish had some of the funniest lines / scenes I've ever witnessed and she played them very well. I needed a good laugh and this film delivered. I laughed every minute for a long time, unless something more serious was going on, and even then, I had a smirk on my face. The whole theatre laughed as well, it felt good to laugh in conjunction with a bunch of other people.

This dramedy was just what I needed and it brought me back to the days when I too had a crew to roll with. Now that I'm approaching 30 I only have one real friend from my high school / college days and the nostalgia the film invoked within me was much appreciated. This film is full of dancing, laughs, and great depiction of what friends and people actually go through. Check it out for yourself! I cannot wait for it to be on DVD/Blu-ray so that I may add it to my collection and laugh once more.

A nice feel good film that is an overall good time. It's a bit formulaic and some of the jokes just go a bit too far for me personally. The actresses work really well together and the majority of the comedy is seriously funny. It feels like a group of girlfriends having a good time. It's a bit vulgar which doesn't bother me personally but might be a turnoff for some. Overall a really nice film, don't watch it around young kids though.

Okay, I'm going to be perfectly honest and this is probably not the most popular opinion, but I didn't like this film.

Ryan Pierce (Hall), a successful author and businesswoman, in an effort to get to hang out with her girls again, decides to be the key note speaker at an Essence Festival in New Orleans. As the four reconnect, secrets come out and the women need to figure out if they have outgrown their friends and if it's time to worry about themselves...
