You know what film is an 8/10 or a 9/10? Wolf of Wallstreet. You know what film is not? Magi.
Yet, judging by all of the high star ratings and glowing reviews, you'd think this film may win an Oscar. Wrong. Fake reviews....they are plaguing IMDb.
Many of these reviewers have ONLY reviewed ONE FILM (This film!)
Note to fake reviewers: at least pump in a few reviews for other films so you can appear to be a film fan and not affiliated with the film you are reviewing.
If anyone involved in the film (aka the fake reviewers) is reading this, please take note: YOU ARE RUINING IMDb! It has become a biased, fictitious ratings-land where the average consume cannot get an objective review of a film.
My suggestion: move along to a film that stands on its own merit and doesn't need to trick you into viewing.

A sober production from the director. he has the knack, the edge and the content without the craziness, intensity and shocks that his other movies delivered in the past.

The plot.
Olivia, A New York-based journalist travels to Turkey when she receives news that her sister Marla is pregnant.
Marla recently ended a relationship but decides to keep the baby and that's when sinister things begin to occur.
This movie is a mess.
From the first frame, I wasn't sure if I should take it seriously or as a lampoon. Unfortunately i believe it was meant to be taken seriously.
There's not logic whatsoever to the movie. It rambles and makes no sense. Baldwin and Madsen who are in it for 10 seconds a piece obviously need the money. SAD.
The bulk of the movie is all talking and no action, peppered with ominous music here and there. Again, makes no sense.
It's a train wreck

First I have to say that I watched Dabbe 4-5-6 and we scared so bad at this films. Then we watched magi with 5 friends and we just laugh at this film.I have to say that this movie just made for money.Actors was good but topic was terrible and the effects.Film was includes some kind of sound effects that make us scare but there was not any action for scare and the film was too long we have waited too long for any action or something scary but there was not special things for scare we just wait for the end and I have to say that if people scare easily or more likely everything it can scare people but if you love horror Movies this not good for people who love scare movies.I will keep watching Hasan Karacag 's movies but this one was not good.
Starring Michael Madsen, Stephen Baldwin, Brianne Davis and Lucie Pohl, "Magi" is directed by Turkish director Hasan Karacadağ. The horror film recounts the adventures of American journalist Olivia Watkins who comes to Istanbul following the murder of her sister.
I enjoy this, The movie overall is pretty good, but I'm always a little cynical, and a big part of me wonders how closely this follows the facts of the true story.
well directed, and does its best to maintain a spooky mood (but doesn't quite achieve that goal). If you are looking for cliché horror look elsewhere.
If you're looking for blood and guts, look elsewhere. This film will grab your imagination and whipsaw your emotions into very dark places. Lucie Pohl is absolutely amazing as Olivia Watkins. Good acting. Special effects were overdone. Whether you're a believer in the supernatural or not, I thought it was interesting and scary at sometimes.

Turkish horror movie made in 2016. When it comes to Turkish horror movies, of course, only the genie issue comes to mind. It is impossible to find another topic. The only difference between this movie and the others is that most of the actors are American. They thought that the movie would be great if American actors acted. The shortest description of the movie is just noise. A ridiculous shouting effect and screaming. There is nothing else. Sorry, there are also lousy animations. Sir, the man made the king of your make-up 40 years ago in the Evil Dead movie. The movie does not end with 2 hours of watching. It's like torture. Sorcerers, demons, the devil and Hitler. The scariest scene in the movie may be the taxi scene at the beginning of the movie. The rest yelled at the loudest volume. In between, moans and music with Arabic-like words were not missing.
There is sex in the movie, no nudity.

I finally got to see this flick. It's a must-watch! Magi has a very strong story and engrossing plot. I love the slow burner horror films and this was definitely one of those types of horror films. Stamm hits on Christian & Babylonian beliefs concerning the origin of the Devil, his demons, and God. i hate it when people spoil movies so I don't want to tell you whole story.
What i did not expect was to REALLY enjoy this film. This is not a jump scare movie There's a small amount of gore that it's't very over the top, but along with the death scenes, they prove to be very effective.
But the suspense of Magi was fantastic and its weird but You believe the story. yes, really It'll give you something to think about and it'll make you believe that perhaps, demons DO exist. The rest of the movie was very very fresh and new. There were enough turns and twists to keep you going and a nice amount of creepiness. It's the type of horror that gets under your skin and chills your blood. One of the best films, horror or not ,in recent memory.
before seeing this movie you should know What is the difference between angels, Jinns and devils? The JINN are beings living on earth in a world parallel to mankind. They are physically invisible from man as their description suggests. Through their powers of flying and invisibility, the JINNS are the chief component in occult activities. Therefore, Voodoo, Black magic, Witchcraft and Mediums can all be explained through the world of the JINNS. Likewise, so can the illusions and feats of magicians. so think about these words; Magic & Magi...! It was a clever plot with plenty of suspense and I never would've guessed the ending, which was great, surprising and memorable! It stays on your mind for days after. I recommend this to those who are into supernatural horror with a demonic possession backdrop. Magi is certainly worth seeing if you are a fan of the genre.

It didn't disappoint me. Very happy with the stylish lighting/acting/dialogue. Tight plot with almost no boring scenes. I usually don't like to see these kinds of films; however, when the movie is based on real life events and/or real life people, I tend to make exceptions. Based on a true story of two sisters but Although this story is based on real events it is still difficult to accept. Entertaining but there are flaws which subtract from the reality of this subject. Not all that scary but it does trip you out at times.Started slow, but ended up being a good suspense horror film. The directing is well done, with many nice shots. One of the better psychological thrillers out there. Wouldn't really classify it as horror though parts were pretty scary. This movie is not something I'd recommend children to see. It has some obviously disturbing images as the special effects are rather convincing. The final moments of the film seem to indicate that the producers are hoping for a sequence.

I loved this movie and the story line. It is a great horror movie that keeps you on your seat wondering what is gonna happen next.
Also The score is absolutely amazing too in its grating terror.
The base of film is about ancient Mesopotamian mythological creatures and their creepy demons; The Jinns!
Jinn is a word derived from an Arabic root which means to 'conceal' or 'cover with darkness';
This film is a true horror movie that isn't a cheap thrill slasher/gore/shock fest with little to no storyline.
However, if you're an ethnic-horror film fan and enjoy a good story more than anything else, this is a movie you should watch. It is a slow burning, suspenseful and atmospheric film shot in muted tones. I have to say that Magi is Not your typical exorcism movie. You may think that as you first watch but it has a surprising twist. Most unique of its genre... I really enjoyed the ending.

This is a great film.It is very well acted, well directed and paced nicely. It was more then a horror-suspense movie.
If you're a fan of horror, particularly spiritual horror, you should see this. If you're into the disturbing and weird, you should see this.
Magi manages to work its horror elements rather well, by delivering some genuine creepy moments. You will love the end.
Need some interesting questions to ask your friends? then watch it...! The Satan and Jinn's try to prevent man to meet with its higher dimensions. What sort of traps they use? were the aliens jinn based creatures?? Overall, I enjoyed the plot, characters and pace of the film.
"MAGI" is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I do recommend this movie if you like religious-occult themed horror films. It's very well directed and written by Hasan Karacadag who has directed so many successful Turkish horror films such as dabbe saga.
Supernatural possession or a murder or a crazy cult or just lies?
Script was nicely layout. The movie is loosely based on the real life (...and some true historical events) about occultism of Adolf Hitler. The story itself is quite good and different. I really enjoyed the horror drama aspect of the movie...The drama keep me in suspense.
The roles are well played by all of the actors. Most are very convincing. I like Michael Madsen and I'm so glad to see him in a Turkish film.He is a real legend! Based on real stuff is always the best and this was...Nice Tie into the struggle between evil and faith.Smart and well done, this is not your average horror film. Still, after watching it, it is fun to review the actual events etc. Watch this one. Great story line, masterful acting, and outstanding effects.

very different format for a demon possession kind of movie. A pregnant American woman who was due to give birth in just days brutally stabbed to death and her sister Olivia researches the subject and is awakened to the terrifying truth that demons exist and are not a good thing. There are many "copy cat" movies about Exorcisms but this is not one of them. Some of you may not agree but something about this movie really gave me that scared to go to bed with the lights off feeling. That doesn't happen often to me. The story is clear, the script is good. The story and film are paced well. The plot also has a very interesting connection to Adolf Hitler and Nazis.
Worth a watch if you like horror movies.

Love it, Hasan Karacadag never fails to please me.
I loved it beginning to end. I was a little worried because the demonic possession thing and exorcist thing have been done so much but this movie went in a whole other direction. Acting is good and story is interesting. Good movie...if you're into movies that make you "think"...then you will love this movie.. The movie description that I read was excellent. Michael Madsen is one of my favorite actors and that's another reason I saw it.He is awesome in this movie..which is not surprising. The movie is based on true events and that made it even more scary and suspenseful. it gripped me very much . I really recommend this movie to those that love religious/occult horror themed movies - it's quite a interesting flick.

I only saw the Turkish subtitled version and it sucks because it's dubbed another language on top of the already filmed English! What's up, someone please let me know! I want to see the us version!
