Marks the first time real-life husband and wife Jeffrey Holland and Judy Buxton have portrayed an onscreen couple.

Many of the characters are named after friends and colleagues of director Tim Griffiths.

The original story was about a rescue space shuttle being sent to rescue a previous crew, who had attempted to blow up a comet headed for Earth, but instead managed to lock themselves inside the shuttle with the bomb detonator stuck outside.

The characters of 'Grover' and 'Grainger' feature in the script only as 'Grover'. Due to the busy working schedule of Ian Grover, it was decided that the character should be split. In addition, some lines originally written for 'Gander' were altered and performed by 'Warren Saunders (II)' to help with the tight shooting schedule.

Tim Faraday was the first and only choice to play Commander Mark Kelly.
