Manuel is a cunning, swindling cowboy who lives for his two great loves - his fiancée Das Dô and his mule Beija-fulô - and his business of selling unsound horses to fools. The assassin Targino arrives in town in search of a horse and, smart as he thinks he is, Manuel sells a sick horse to the murderer. Targino swears that he will kill Manuel and disgrace the reputation of Das Dô. Under pressure, Manuel invokes the magic of Toniquinho das Pedras to protect himself, but the sorcerer demands the mule as payment. Manuel, finds himself in the dilemma between having to choose between his fiancée Das Dô, and the mule Beija-fulô.
