As confirmed by Deadline today, Jon M. Chu, one of cinema's premiere makers of cinematic musicals, will be adapting the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice operetta "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" for Amazon Studios. In addition to directing, Chu will produce the film alongside Scott Sanders, who worked on Chu's adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda's and Quiara Alegría Hudes' stage musical "In the Heights," released in 2021.
"Joseph" is an outsize, rock-forward, expressionistic rendition of the Book of Genesis, telling the story of the Coat of Many Colors. In Genesis, Joseph was given said garment by his father, much to the chagrin of his jealous brothers, who began to plot against him. Joseph was thrown into a pit, with one of his more benevolent brothers planning to rescue him later. He was eventually dragged out and sold into slavery. In the Webber/Rice musical, Joseph eventually gets out of bondage...

It was one of the hottest tours of the year, and Justin Bieber's Believe shows got a huge boost of high-energy dance moves thanks to choreographer Nick Demoura.
While promoting his new “Believe Tour Dance Experience” DVD, Mr. Demoura chatted with The GossipCenter about what it’s like to work with the “Baby” singer.
Nick noted that the biggest misconception about Justin is, “Everything gets exaggerated. He’s a young man growing up, and things happen. I’ve known him since he was 15, and he has the biggest heart of anyone I know.”
“When you know him personally, you realize he does a lot of good. He did work in Guatemala building houses, and helps everyone he can, but the media only focuses on the bad aspects and highlights his mistakes and flaws.”
Additionally, Demoura says he definitely has a favorite Bieber hit when it comes to choreography- “As Long As You Love Me.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Even though I'm not much of a fan, I'll start with The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug as it has to be the hottest title on the board this week. However, fan or not, I'm not sure why you'd buy this version as you know an extended version is just around the corner and, on top of that, why not just wait until Warner Home Video releases the massive, Hobbit and Lord of the Rings box set we all know is going to be release eventuallyc Likely with the extended additions, new features and cool packaging that will likely take up less shelf space than the six titles individually. I'm just saying, think before you click "Buy".
August: Osage County Now I'm hoping more people find this one on home video as I quite liked August: Osage County. Yes, it's mean-spirited, but it's good...

At long last: A "Jem and the Holograms" live-action movie is coming to the big-screen. Director Jon M. Chu ("Justin Bieber's Believe," "G.I. Joe: Retaliation") has announced in a new YouTube video that he'll be helming a feature-length adaptation of the 1980s animated series - and what's more, he and his producers want you to be the star. "We are looking for the most talented girls and boys in the world to be in our movie," says producer/music mogul Scooter Braun in the clip. "Triple threats. Singing. Dancing. Acting. We want you to be our movie star." In addition to the open casting process (you can submit an audition video to JemtheMovie.com), Chu, Braun and producer Jason Blum are also asking fans of the original series to post videos and images to the film's official Tumblr to express what they love most about the original show. You can...

Jem and the Hologram fans, get excited! Jon M. Chu, the director of G.I. Joe: Retaliation and Justin Bieber's Believe documentary, is making a big screen version of the hit 1980s cartoon! Chu announced the new project in a YouTube video earlier today, telling fans, "The movie, without giving away too much, is a modern day, live action reinvention of the 1980s Hasbro classic cartoon Jem and the Holograms." The film will be produced by Jason Blum and Bieber's mentor Scooter Braun. While Chu didn't give away too much info about the exciting new Jem and the Holograms movie, he did share one very special detail: he wants fans to contribute their ideas via social...

Game of Thrones: The Complete Third Season The first season of "Game of Thrones" I actually don't have to watch on Blu-ray because I watched the whole season on HBO and it's a good one and I'm really looking forward to the fourth season, which begins on April 6. It also seems like these sets have gone down a bit in price as the Blu-ray for season three is only $29.99 whereas I seem to remember past seasons of HBO shows could run up to $43 or so.
Fantastic Mr. Fox (Criterion Collection) If you already own The Fantastic Mr. Fox from its previous Blu-ray release the draw here will be the included features or nothing. I haven't actually seen this new version so I can't speak to its quality, but the supplemental features are extensive and may be worth it to someone that doesn't own the film already or really wants to dive behind-the-scenes.

How Justin Bieber's fortunes have fallen at the box office. The performer's second concert documentary Believe is turning in a dismal performance at the Christmas box office, where it has earned only $3.1 million in its first three days. On Friday, it fell below $1 million to $790,000 for a 14th place finish. Believe is now only expected to take in $4.5 million over the course of its five-day debut (Wednesday through Sunday), including a meek weekend haul of $2.2 million. Granted, the movie is said to have cost only $5 million to make, but Believe

The day after Christmas just kept on giving for "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" and "Frozen," while newcomers "47 Ronin" and "Justin Bieber's Believe" were left out in the cold. "Smaug" stayed put at No. 1 with $10.5 million on Thursday, bringing its domestic total to a dragon-sized $160.5 million. In second place, Disney's "Frozen" picked up another $9.1 million. With kids home from school, the animated smash has so far earned $219.5 million domestically and is showing no signs of slowing down. "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" reported to the No. 3 slot with $7.3 million, bringing its...

There’s a possibly interesting or amusing film to be made about the Justin Bieber phenomenon, but Justin Bieber’s Believe isn’t it. Director John M. Chu’s second documentary is strictly for the Beliebers, with any non-fans sure to respond with bemusement. Stealthily released in theaters on Christmas Day, this follow-up to the equally hagiographic Justin Bieber: Never Say Never is unlikely to match its commercial success, although there will undoubtedly be healthy DVD sales. Early on, there’s some hope that the film might contain some healthily skeptical perspective, with the young pop star admitting that his forlorn attempt at

Co-produced by Bieber Time Films, Justin Bieber's Believe is a slick, loud commercial for the young phenomenon that is Justin Bieber. And here I must be very, very careful: My 15-year-old daughter beliebes with all her heart that Justin is everything he appears to be: an angel from on high (he descends to the stage on giant wings fashioned from guitars, drums, and other implements of his magic) but also humble, a guy in a room writing songs from the heart, songs he needs so bad just to get out. Most of those songs are about how much he wants to be your boyfriend. The work is hard, given that there are a limited number of words that rhyme with “girl.” Squirrel. Jon Chu has seen Justin Bieber reach his greatest heights and lowest lows. As the director of Never Say Never, the pop star’s 2011 documentary which grossed nearly $100 million, Chu filmed Bieber’s burgeoning career from obscurity to superstardom. Now helming its follow-up Believe (out Christmas Day), he not only got to witness Bieber mania reach an even more massive global scale, Chu was the one asking the questions: interviewing Bieber at a vulnerable moment in his life and in the midst of trying to transition from kid to adult, pop star to artist. The other week, “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” director Jon M. Chu said that the nature of this film franchise’s universe means that “you never know who's coming back,” pointing to the way that Storm Shadow seemingly died in the first one and came back in the second one.

Now, out on the press tour for “Justin Bieber's Believe,” Chu now says that the original quote was taken out of context. Speaking with Coming Soon, he tries to better explain what he meant:

Opening this Christmas, Leonardo DiCaprio takes on the finance world in Martin Scorsese's "The Wolf of Wall Street," Keanu Reeves and a band of samurai warriors fight a ruthless shogun in "47 Ronin," Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro face off in "Grudge Match," and tensions grow between Meryl Streep and everyone else in "August: Osage County."
Based on Jordan Belfort's memoirs, "The Wolf of Wall Street" re-teams Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio in the story of a crooked stockbroker's meteoric rise, outlandish behavior, and sudden fall involving the federal government. Set in the '80s and early '90s, the comedy-drama is Scorsese at his most adult (don't bring the kids). The film's stellar cast is rounded out by Jonah Hill, Margot Robbie, Kyle Chandler, Jean Dujardin ('The Artist'), and more.
Starring Keanu Reeves, "47 Ronin" depicts the epic fight between 47 leaderless samurai (ronin) and a treacherous warlord.

The residents of Middle Earth got a little good news this weekend as The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug was able to maintain #1 position at the weekend box office over incoming Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. After a somewhat disappointing $73.6 million opening last weekend, Smaug dropped 57% this weekend and ended the three-day run with $31.4 million compared to the $26.7 million brought in by the Anchorman boys, a film that felt as if it was the most marketed film in history. If estimates hold, Anchorman 2 was unable to top its predecessor's opening back in 2004. The original, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy brought in $28.4 million over nine years ago, adjusted for inflation that amounts to $36.8 million, which would seem to suggest the audience has actually dwindled for the fake anchorman. Of course, the film did open on Wednesday and has brought in over $40 million in those five days, but still, I...

It takes a lot of guts to hit a red carpet (especially in Los Angeles) hiding all of your hair under a knit cap. Open Road Films have released a new trailer for the second Justin Bieber film that's been released called Justin Bieber's Believe. The first one was Justin Bieber: Never Say Never from Paramount, which opened on February 11th, 2011. Pic turned in just short of $100 million worldwide, with $73 million coming from N. American theaters, all from a $13 million production budget, so I can understand how Open Road want their cut of Bieber, but still, how many Justin Bieber films do we need? The film captures 19-year-old Justin Bieber unfiltered and brutally honest. In brand new interviews with Bieber, the movie reveals long-awaited answers to questions about his passion to make music, relationships and coming of age in the spotlight -- as well as never-before-seen concert footage, unprecedented behind-the-scenes access and special appearances from manager Scooter Braun, Patti Mallette, Usher, Ludacris and many more.
