I know that after this long you have to give things a bit of wiggle room. It obviously wasn't going to be the same as the original show but it just feels really off to me.
I fully understand why they had to go with the multiverse angle... it is the easiest way to bring back so many of the characters. But multiverses are painfully overdone these days to the point where their inclusion feels lazy. But that doesn't bother me very much. I was just looking forward to hearing the cast get back together.
Which brings me to my main problem. The actual voice acting. Which I am putting down to poor direction and recording. Because I have heard various actors from this show do other voice acting roles and they have been absolutely amazing in them. Anthony Head for example was fantastic in Bleak Expectations.
But in this... most of the actors sound wrong. James Marsters sounds like he is very out of practice with his Spike accent. Amber Benson (who I am a big fan of) outright sounds awful most of the time. Giles' partner sounds like she is doing a table read. The only people who sound reasonable most of the time are Cordelia, Clem, Drusilla and Indira. And even they have their dodgy moments due to the not so great dialogue.
Speaking of the dialogue... it isn't great. It feels like they tried to keep things quippy like the original show but the lines fall flat most of the time... although... this may well be in large part due to the poor direction of the voice acting.
If the voice acting had been better directed and recorded then this would have been a thousand times better.
I would really like then to do another one, because I love this universe... but for the love of all that is holy... please do a better job with the voice acting next time.
