Janet Planet

This film captures the tension between a single mother trying to live her life and have adult relationships and her daughter's disappointment in her mother's choices and her need to be desired. The action takes place over the course of several months and it's a beautiful depiction of adult indecision and searching in middle age as seen from the perspective of an inquisitive loving child who wants her mother to herself. The setting in the early 1990's in western Massachusetts gives the movie the feeling of an endless summer day yet there is plenty of action and impact. It's clear this summer will reverberate for Lacy and Janet in their lives, and clear that they will both continue to struggle to balance the intense love they have for each other with their other relationships.
