“Saturday Night Live” has already booked Maya Rudolph to return as Vice President Kamala Harris, but who should play her newly named running mate, Midwestern nice guy and governor of Minnesota Tim Walz?
The most apparently obvious candidate — similarly white-haired comedian Steve Martin — has, sadly, already turned down the gig as of Wednesday. But fear not, we’ve got plenty of other suggestions for Lorne Michaels to consider, including A-listers like Tom Hanks, Brad Pitt and John Goodman.

Recently, Preity Zinta’s pictures from the Punjab Kings Vs Delhi Capitals match went viral on social media. The game was held at Punjab’s Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Cricket Stadium. The Beatles‘ “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” is one of the most mysterious-sounding songs in rock history. Paul McCartney explained one of its secrets to Taylor Swift. Notably, Paul’s approach to writing the track wasn’t that different from the way Swift pens some of her music. John Lennon refuted a misconception about the tune.
What Paul McCartney told Taylor Swift about The Beatles’ ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’
In a 2020 Rolling Stone, Swift and Paul interviewed each other. Swift revealed she decided to use her favorite words in her songs, even if they weren’t radio-friendly. Some of these words included “marzipan,” “divorcée,” “elegies,” and “epiphany.” She said she had lists and lists of her favorite words. She also discussed looking through books to find words she could use in her tunes.

A decade ago, Gerard Depardieu played a character inspired by Dominique Strauss-Kahn — the disgraced former head of the International Monetary Fund who was accused of assaulting a hotel maid — in Abel Ferrara’s “Welcome to New York.” In an ironic twist, the iconic French actor has now become the poster boy for the country’s #MeToo movement, having been charged with rape and faced with over a dozen sexual assault allegations.
But the French remain divided over him due to his profile as a mascot of the country’s cinematic history. He’s starred in over 150 films, including classics such as Jean-Paul Rappeneau’s “Cyrano de Bergerac,” François Truffaut’s “Le Dernier Metro” and Bertrand Blier’s “Going Places.” However, the tide is starting to shift — while French President Emmanuel Macron refused to revoke his Legion of Honor, the Paris wax museum went ahead and removed his statue on Dec.

The NFL is defending its decision to spotlight Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, who have sparked romance rumors, amid recent backlash from some football fans.
For the past two Sundays, Sept. 24 and Oct. 1, the pop star has shown up at the Kansas City Chiefs games, leading to quite a frenzy on social media. Following her appearances, the NFL has played along with the extra attention the singer has brought the league, including changing its bio on official NFL social accounts as well as posting additional photos of Swift.
Most recently, after the Chiefs beat the New York Jets, 23-20, in a controversial victory, the NFL’s Instagram bio read, “chiefs are 2-0 as swifties,” acknowledging how many times Swift has attended the tight end’s games. The NFL also wrote “NFL (Taylor’s Version)” in its bio on X (formerly Twitter).

In case you haven’t heard, Taylor Swift has been attending some Kansas City Chiefs games lately, cheering on Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce.
When Swift made a surprise appearance at the Chiefs-Bears game two weeks ago, Fox showed her laughing with Kelce’s mom, Donna Kelce, and chest-bumping a suitemate after the Chiefs star scored a touchdown.
When news leaked that Swift was preparing to attend last weekend’s Chiefs-Jets game in New Jersey, NBC pivoted to a Taylor Swift-themed marketing campaign, with her song “Welcome to New York” becoming the star of a commercial spot. And once again, Swift was frequently pictured in the suite watching her rumored beau play.
On a new episode of his New Heights podcast, which published Wednesday morning, Travis Kelce and his co-host and brother Jason Kelce (a star for the Philadelphia Eagles) agreed that it’s all become a bit much.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce told his brother Jason on their “New Heights” podcast that the NFL is going a bit overboard when it comes to Taylor Swift coverage. Update: The NFL has responded.
The Grammy-winning pop star and Kelce have captured the media zeitgeist in recent weeks amid dating rumors. While neither of them have outright confirmed they are in a relationship, Swift has caused a media frenzy by recently attending two Kansas City Chiefs games. She was joined by famous friends like Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Sophie Turner and more at the Chiefs’ Oct. 1 game against the New York Jets, as the NFL broadcast frequently cut to Swift in the stands.
“Is the NFL overdoing it?” Jason asked Travis on the podcast. “Take away your feelings for Taylor Swift.”
“I think it’s fun when they show who all is at the game,” Travis answered.

On Thursday evening, at New York’s Paley Center for Media, NBC Today anchor Savannah Guthrie moderated a panel with the team from NBC’s Sunday Night Football. So it stands to reason that she had to ask the tough questions.
“What do you know about Taylor Swift?” Guthrie said to Mike Tirico, Cris Collinsworth and the rest of the SNF team.
NBC’s game this week sees Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs taking on Zach Wilson and the New York Jets. It was looking like a snoozer, with the Chiefs dominant this season, and the Jets flailing after losing quarterback Aaron Rodgers to an injury just minutes into their first game of the season.

New York City has inspired a lot of music. The best songs about New York City include rock ‘n’ roll songs, synth-pop songs, and a classic rap single. Notably, Hall & Oates’ “Maneater” is a song about New York City.

During a 2020 interview with American Songwriter, John Oates discussed “Maneater.” “Well, it was about New York City, after the fact,” he said. “I got the idea for the song because there was a woman who was very — she was beautiful but had a very foul, you know, vocabulary. It was the juxtaposition of this great beauty with this foul mouth that really kind of sparked an idea to me that she would chew you up and spit you out.”

Veteran French actor Gerard Depardieu will remain under formal investigation for alleged rape after losing an appeal.
The decision, which was announced on Thursday (March 10) by the Paris Court of Appeal, said it won’t drop Depardieu’s indictment, which stems from accusations of rape and sexual assault filed to authorities by Charlotte Arnould, an actor and dancer in her early 20’s, in August 2018. The case was initially dropped in 2019 following a lack of evidence, but was reopened in 2020.
Depardieu, who previously said through his lawyer that he “firmly rejected” Arnould’s accusations, has been under formal investigation since Dec. 16, 2020, and filed an appeal in May 2021.
“The Paris Court of Appeal considers that there remains, at this point, some grave and consistent clues that justify that Gerard Depardieu remains indicted,” said the Paris chief prosecutor Remy Heitz in a statement sent to Variety. Following this investigation, the case will either...

Zeros and Ones"The fact that we’re still making movies is a fucking miracle."—Abel FerraraAbel Ferrara has, for most of his career—most of his life, really—been more comfortable amid scum and sewage and sin, the tawdry, oil-slick sleaze of pre-Giuliani New York, than he has polite society. He was, in his youth, into middle age, even now, at 69—a family man and ten years sober after a lifetime of insalubrious activities—not one to give a fuck. He's more 42nd Street than 54th, and yet he got a nice retrospective at MoMA a couple years ago. He cut his teeth on porn and exploitation that, while just as schlocky as anything else with a similar budget and penchant for perversity, is obviously made by a mad genius, one who doesn't entirely fit in with the other weirdos of New York. Consider the ferocity of his early films,...

There’s a nice quote in Abel Ferrara’s 2014 film Pasolini: “The meaning of this parable is precisely the relationship of an author to the form he creates.” It’s an idea I’ve been quite taken with in the years since, and unsurprisingly Ferrara has only expanded upon it in his most recent two feature films, Tommaso and Siberia. I’ve been lucky enough to ask Mr. Ferrara about this, and while the films themselves offer a clarity that only art can provide, there are still things—not loose ends, but rather tangents and streams—one can gain a little perspective on through the nature of correspondence itself. Mr. Ferrara—a congenial, gentle, and kindly man—gives us a little insight on this relationship between art and the artist, how it’s informed what he’s doing now as opposed to what he used to do, and where he’s going next.

Willem Dafoe lifts a scrappy portrait of An American In Rome into something of subtle intensity. Abel Ferrara’s first feature in six years is an uneven effort, perhaps a warm-up for his and Dafoe’s next film, Siberia, but fans of the man will find enough to chew on. Playing the eponymous lead, Dafoe is an obvious stand-in for his director, not least made blatant from the casting of Ferrara’s own young wife (Cristina Chiriac) and toddler in the same roles as in their real life.
Like many of Ferrara’s films, Tommaso starts out with seemingly insignificant details, but stacks them until they mount ominously. But there’s little of the awkward sleaze of films like Bad Lieutenant or Welcome To New York. Tommaso finds Ferrara making peace with domesticity, before considering how said home-life might cause the unravelling of a reformed, self-confessed wild-man.
At first, Tommaso looks to be a straightforward.

Dream team Abel Ferrara and Willem Dafoe, who most recently collaborated on “Tommaso” and “Pasolini,” have done it again with the upcoming Berlinale premiere, “Siberia.” IndieWire shares the stunning first trailer for the film, which is currently seeking U.S. distribution, below. The film premieres at the Berlin Film Festival on February 24.
Throughout, star Dafoe (who recently won an Indie Spirit award for his supporting turn in “The Lighthouse”) wanders the nightmares and dreamscapes of the mind. “You’ve destroyed my life,” a woman laughingly tells him, launching Dafoe, whose character is called Clint, on a dark night of the soul across haunting set pieces. The film boasts cinematography from Stefano Falivene, who worked on Wes Anderson’s “The Life Aquatic” and also shot Ferrara’s “Pasolini.”

“I feel really really good about not being muzzled anymore, and it was my own doing,” Taylor Swift reveals in the first trailer for her Netflix documentary, “Miss Americana.”
The singer and songwriter gets candid in behind-the-scenes footage, saying, “Throughout my whole career label executives would just say: ‘A nice girl doesn’t force their opinions on people. A nice girl smiles and says and waves and says thank you.’ I became the person everyone wanted me to be.”
In an exclusive sit down with Variety, Swift explained why it was time to speak up for political and social causes she believes in. Swift, a recipient of the Vanguard Award from GLAAD, realized: “To celebrate but not advocate felt wrong for me. Using my voice to try to advocate was the only choice to make.”

“Katy Keene” may be set in the Archie Comics universe. But it’s a long way from “Riverdale.”
That point is made, first, by a series-opening sequence in which Katy (Lucy Hale) announces “Welcome to New York!” while watching her roommate, a drag queen (Jonny Beauchamp), perform; only moments before, the Taylor Swift song “Welcome to New York” had been playing as Katy went about her job at an upscale department store. Later in the pilot, Josie (Ashleigh Murray), now an aspiring vocalist who operates without her backing Pussycats, announces she has little to fear in the big city: “I am from Riverdale. It’s the murder capital of the world.”
Indeed, the problems in “Katy Keene’s” New York seem more prosaic than in the drug-and-violence-strewn small town of “Riverdale” — and the show is better for it. Katy, here, is a would-be designer seeking to balance work, friends, and...

The day before Taylor Swift’s 30th birthday, she summed up the joy, and turmoil, that comes with being one of the biggest artists in the world. She detailed the backlash and skepticism that came with her success, and how she sometimes gave in to her critics by making music to please them. She talked about losing the rights to her master recordings, something she didn’t see coming until it was too late, and how she wants to fight the trend of private equity companies buying up music “as if it is real estate.

It's her birthday and she'll perform if she wants to! Taylor Swift is officially 30 years old, and what better way to ring in the start of her new decade than with a legendary performance on one of the biggest stages during the holidays at Jingle Ball in New York City. The singer took the stage at Madison Square Garden to perform a few of her greatest hit songs including "Blank Space," "Me!," "Lover" and of course "Welcome to New York" for thousands of adoring fans. It wouldn't be a Christmas themed concert unless Taylor sang a little bit of festive music, and luckily, she added a newly minted Christmas song to her repertoire this year. She performed her new...

Abel Ferrara's King of New York (1990) and 4:44 Last Day on Earth (2011) are playing April – May, 2019 on Mubi in the United States. In Bad Lieutenant—arguably Abel Ferrara’s most notorious film—Harvey Keitel refers to Jesus Christ as a “rat fuck.” This may be the most glaring instance of something that is blatantly littered across Ferrara’s forty-plus year career: a cockeyed and knowingly sacrilegious approach to his Catholic faith. A nun is brutally raped in Bad Lieutenant (1992) and Keitel is the man sent to find her assailants. Yet he himself is not free of sin—in his own way, he is deeply morally compromised. In one of the film’s most affecting scenes, he lies prostate at the altar of a church, throwing himself on the mercy of a God he feels has abandoned him. He’s far from an outlier among Ferrara’s protagonists, but he...

Taylor Swift is set to release her sixth studio album, Reputation, on Friday, Nov. 10. And, regardless of your thoughts on the 27-year-old, she’s always had a way with words.
Which is why for months (years, arguably), die-hard fans, gossip lovers and even the media have been anxious to get a true glimpse into Swift’s life over the past three years.
Taylor Swift Drops Heartfelt New Single 'Call It What You Want' -- Listen!
The Grammy-winning artist has always let the music do the talking – it’s one of her greatest strengths. Heck, when she released 1989, she included packs of Polaroid photos in each hard copy – with a handwritten lyric from the album printed on each one. And we’re confident that this album will be no different. We’ve learned so much from the songs she’s already released -- not to mention the caption she left on an Instagram post on Aug. 25 after announcing the album:...

The National High School Musical Theatre Awards, affectionately nicknamed the Jimmy Awards after producer James M. Nederlander, returned to New York City’s Minskoff Theatre for its ninth annual ceremony on June 26, honoring the brightest young stars in musical theater from across the country. This year’s show, hosted by Ben Platt, who is fresh off his 2017 Tony Award win, saw 74 high school students from 37 regional programs around the U.S.—the largest pool of competitors to date—vying for the coveted titles of best performance by an actor and actress. The evening kicked off with a celebration of all things theater, featuring each young hopeful in a medley of tunes from current Broadway hits, including “Dear Evan Hansen,” “Hello, Dolly!,” and “Come From Away” (“Welcome to the Rock” was fittingly transposed with “Welcome to New York”). Additionally, competitors sang excerpted solos before eight finalists were selected. Ultimately, top honors...

Frank is placed small in the frame, positioned slightly off-centre towards the bottom corner, his back to the camera as he prays silently. The prison bars dominate the composition, abstracted into silhouettes by Ferrara’s chiaroscuro lighting. A police baton enters the frame and knocks twice on the cell door, jarring Frank out of his concentration. The door is then...

There’s perhaps no filmmaker that has more documentaries made about them than Stanley Kubrick, but a new one premiering at Cannes Film Festival proves not every angle about his legendary filmography and life has been explored. Filmworker takes a look at the life of Leon Vitali, who first met Kubrick playing Lord Bullingdon in Barry Lyndon then would go on to become a close assistant to the director, even overseeing restorations of his films after his passing.

The track is certainly a breakup song,...

In addition to fronting the internationally beloved pop-rock act OneRepublic, Tedder has crafted chart-toppers for modern music royalty, from Taylor Swift to mononymous powerhouses Adele and Beyoncé.
