- Diana, an unemployed actress and novice screenwriter, is notified that her estranged father is dying and realizes it's her last chance to confront him about the past. The father, Vlad, a successful Jazz musician from Kiev, had immigrated to Israel hoping for a better life, but ended up working in a factory to cover his daughters' artistic education, hoping she'll achieve what he lost. But Diana fails to be 'good' or 'talented' enough, and as he predicted 'will not amount to much'. Now, her repressed feelings of guilt are back. She turns to the only way she knows to calm her soul; she asks her husband to hurt her with a belt during sex. She is determined to break the equation and seek closure with her dad. But facing him, she is paralyzed, helpless. Even on his deathbed, Vlad is condescending and brutal, his words like poison, and she chooses not to talk back. He asks her to play 'Stairway to heaven', a song they played together in her youth, but she refuses. He hears about her script and is suddenly interested; this may be a way to communicate with him. She rushes home to get a copy, but the printer malfunctions, and she 'loses it' in front of her husband Roy. Seeing the connection, Roy pleads she end the twisted relationship. Arriving at the hospice, she overhears Vlad boasting to the nurse about his daughters' achievements. She runs from there vowing never to return. Days later, when Vlad dies, Diana picks up his meager belongings and receives a discOnKey with her performances collected by her father. She discards it as she leaves the building. Back home she takes her guitar and plays for the first time in years. The belt is visible on the chair not far from her.
