Spin-off the most famous konosuba, this time we follow the steps of a young Megumin trying to grow and to integrate with her peers with mixed to no results.
The character is clearly the best of Konosuba so can imagine why they decided to make her story.
Compared to the main series we have here more or less removed fan service so a major plus.
From my perspective, the main limitation is that it is more like a "prequel" directly connected to the main, so although you don't know the various scenes in advancve, the closer you get to the end the more you have the feeling to know already what will happen. I watched it after main series and legend of Crimson, if you want to enjoy I suggest you to watch 1-This prequel 2-Main series and 3-Legend of crimson (which is a great conclusion).

This series is a prequel to 'KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World!'. It is centred on Megumin, the wielder of explosion magic. Although at the start of this she has yet to learn it. After being rescued from a monster by a user of explosion magic she determines to learn it despite it being considered dangerous and of little practical use as it can only be used once per day. In the early part of the series she is learning magic and as things progress she gets to use her power against various monsters.
If you watched the original KonoSuba you'll want to watch this. Megumin is a fun central character and her adventures are enjoyable. The secondary characters are good too. There is a good amount of action; it tends to be fun rather than intense, but that suits this series. The animation and designs, which match the original series, are good. Overall a fun series that will obviously appeal to fans of the original but can also be enjoyed by new viewers.
These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

Only Konosuba could've done a prequel series like this and had it work, but even then it BARELY works. If not for the strong, fun, and interesting characters this show focuses on, it would've felt like a bloated drag. The story here feels like it was supposed to be a movie, but parts were stretched to fill out 12 episodes. All that said, I really like Megumin and a show exploring her origin worked for me. The supporting cast was also mostly good, but the first half cast was stronger than the second half in my opinion. The classic Konosuba humor is still present here, but in an understandably lesser degree due to the absence of the whole main cast. I would recommend you watch this show first before Konosuba, as I think its fits well there and I feel that's what they intended for it. But if you have already seen the original show, watching this after will most likely only add to your love for the world.
As a fan of the KonoSuba series and the movie, Kurenai Densetsu, I was excited to explore Megumin's history.
At first, I was skeptical - 12 episodes focused solely on one character? But Megumin's story is a testament to the power of character development. We see her inspiration for explosion magic, her first encounters with Aqua and Kazuma, and even her adorable childhood moments with Komekko and Chomusuke.
Yunyun, Megumin's "rival" and best friend, stole my heart. Her shy, introverted nature and unwavering loyalty make her the perfect secondary character. And let's not forget the hilarious moment Megumin gets jealous of Yunyun's, ahem, bust size.
The battles, hardships, and Megumin's journey to Axel town are expertly woven into the narrative. However, I'll admit it got a bit tedious without Kazuma's sarcastic commentary and the usual guild dynamics.

This show mainly focuses on Megumin's journey before she met Kazuma and the rest of her party. So it is to be expected that the show isn't the same in terms of tone as the main series but it more than makes up for it by showing us the backstory of Megumin and Yunyun as well as expanding on their dynamic even further.
Megumin's journey is very interesting and the situations she finds herself in are downright hilarious, along with the great antagonists she meets along the way who also feel like fresh characters as a whole.
A must watch for fans of the series as this title is filled to the brim with little easter eggs related to the main series along with some genuinely epic and emotional moments.
