Writer/director Julien Carpentier first conceived the movie in the early 2010s as a short movie about a son who gets a phone call from his grandmother telling him his mom is home, and he has to drop work suddenly. Carpentier had a 20-page script and the idea of offering the lead to Agnès Jaoui, which he managed to see after a play she was in, so he pitched it to her, but she had to decline because she didn't have time in her schedule for short movies. He then asked if she would be interested if it was a feature length, which he hadn't considered at the time, and she said she would love to.
First feature length movie for Julien Carpentier. He had previously directed short movies and TV episodes.
Salif Cissé's third collaboration with Julien Carpentier, who had already directed him in Couronnes (2020) and Le bon rôle (2021).
