A sequel film was planned to release a couple years later with John Travolta as the voice of Gummibär which was called Gummibär 3D, which also planned to make a theatrical release. The film was however canceled due to budget failure.
In one scene, Gummibär releases his car which is the car used in The Gummy Bear Song.
This movie made a free re-release to YouTube on The Official Gummibär Channel in 2014.
The voice of Gummibär was provided by Sonja Ball in the film rather than his trademark high-pitched auto-tune voice by Christian André Schneider. In this film, his voice is depicted as a chubby American kid departing Schneider's representation. He however kept his original voice in the songs. While the reason Schneider did not voice the titular character remains unknown, this would be the first time Gummibär is voiced by a woman. This version of his voice would continue to be used in the 2016 series Gummibär and Friends by an English actress Phillipa Alexander.
The original title for this movie was going to be "Gummibar: Santa Where R U?", before it was changed to "Gummibar: The Yummy Gummy Search for Santa."
