Netflix initially purchased distribution rights in 2018, but subsequently dropped them.
Based on George Orwell novella, Animal Farm (1945).
Before George Orwell's original book "Animal Farm" (1945) was even published, it was rejected several times by publishers, as it was written during the UK's wartime alliance with the Soviet Union. The book was banned in the USSR up until the 1980s, and it was also temporarily banned in the UAE because of its talking pigs, seen to be against Islamic values.
Andy Serkis both directs, and stars in the animated movie. He plays Benjamin the donkey. Serkis stated "it was one of the first books I ever read as a child, and one that impacted me hugely" (on the original 1945 George Orwell novel "Animal Farm").
This movie will combine the 1954 film, the 1999 film the dramatized version of Animal Farm (by Steve Parker Audiobooks), and the BBC Radio Drama of Animal Farm with a run-time of 1 hour and 30 minutes into live-action.
