This is Reel One Entertainment take on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries TV movies which are somewhat more serious than your typical romantic comedy or romance. If you expect to see romance movie, skip it - there is barely any romance and comedy (this is actually good). I would say this is at least 3/4 drama, and if there were some serious issues, it would be pretty good.
Technically, movie is so-so. I really like music score, clearly taking cues from HMM TV movies, and it's not obnoxiously loud when cast is speaking/talking. They even managed to create tension. Unfortunately there are two big techical issues. First, for some reason movie suffers from a lot of small bad cuts, and bad camera angles. It's not bad like in some other their movies, and you probably won't notice them, but if you are into it... Yea, not done well. Second, movie was obviously shot in Hamilton, CA like so many others, but it takes place again in NYC so they overused NYC stock footage to fool viewers. I have to say that negative trend is majorly gone in new 2023 season, but here we go again.
Cast was overall passable. Nina Kiri as a lead was convincing and actually carried movie very well.
Movie suffers from serious pacing issues / progression. Approximately every 10-15 min there was jump in time for few weeks and later months, and it simply destroyed pacing and created some semi plot holes. I really don't like large time forwarding in movies all the time, it's more appropriate for TV series as there is obviously much more time to explain things. I mean, you just hook on the plot, and then suprise, time forwarding. And then there is "mystery" in movie - who is sperm donor? It was so obvious who is and what is going to happen... It's really slopy done.
All in all, watch if you have nothing else but don't watch trailer if you plan to watch it as like every other ROE TV movie trailer, it shows everything.
