Yesterday the trailer for Scott Beck and Bryan Woods' horror house flick Haunt dropped. The film from the writers of A Quiet Place is having its world premiere at Popcorn Frights today and the key art and character posters were released. I prefer the individual posters to the key art's collage of the four. They're kind of clean and classy, each one for the Clown, Devil, Ghost and Witch. Check the character posters out below. On Halloween, a group of friends encounter an "extreme" haunted house that promises to feed on their darkest fears. The night turns deadly as they come to the horrifying realization that some monsters are real. And here's the trailer once more. ...

The writers of A Quiet Place, Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, have made a new horror film that they wrote and directed called Haunt.
The story is set on Halloween night, and it follows a group of friends who “encounter an ‘extreme’ haunted house that promises to feed on their darkest fears. The night turns deadly as they come to the horrifying realization that some monsters are real.”
The movie was also produced by Eli Roth, and it doesn’t look like anything that hasn’t been done before. We’ve seen this kind of story recycled several times over the years. But, who knows, maybe this film will offer up a new twist that we don’t see coming.

It's always a good time for a solid horror movie but with Halloween around the corner, it's no surprise that we're seeing more and more horror-themed movies coming out. Case in point: Haunt.
Written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, best known for writing A Quiet Place, stars Katie Stevens, Will Brittain, and Lauryn Alisa McClain among a few others, as a group of friends who encounter an "extreme" haunted house attraction. It starts off fairly tame ("Is this supposed to be scary?" one of them asks) but their night of light scares turns deadly when the group realizes that the monsters are real.

"Is this supposed to be scary?" Momentum Pictures has unveiled the first official trailer for an indie horror titled Haunt, a new haunted house horror co-directed by Scott Beck & Bryan Woods. This insanely freaky looking film is about a group of friends who encounter an "extreme" haunted house that promises to feed on their darkest fears. The night turns deadly as they come to the horrifying realization that some nightmares are real. Ohh yeah. They threw in every possible scary-as-f*!k idea into this and it looks excruciatingly horrifying. Katie Stevens stars, with Will Brittain, Lauryn Alisa McClain, Andrew Caldwell, Shazi Raja, Schuyler Helford, Phillip Johnson Richardson, Chaney Morrow. Looks way, way better than it should and I hope it's as terrifying as this trailer promises. Haunt is the latest film from writers Scott Beck and Bryan Woods (A Quiet Place). Produced by Eli Roth (The Green Inferno), Haunt takes place in a side road amusement park. Here, real killers torment their victims, behind closed doors. This horror title stars: Will Brittain (Kong: Skull Island), Katie Stevens (Polaroid), Andrew Caldwell ("iZombie"), Lauryn Alisa McClain and many others. Already slated to show this September, Haunt was shot in Fort Thomas, Kentucky. And, based on the trailer, this horror thriller will host lots of scares. The synopsis does not reveal much. Several friends track down an extreme haunted house. The ride promises to feed on their darkest fears. And, this is one ride where nightmares become real. The use of haunted house rides has been utilized a lot in the horror genre. From Tyler Christensen's House of Purgatory (2016) to the underground Amusement (2008), killers and murderers are always...

Do you like your popcorn seasoned with horror? Led by the world premiere of Haunt, from the writers of A Quiet Place and Dare, the 5th annual Popcorn Frights Film Festival will get under way in Miami, Florida, USA, in the cool of the summer. And I use the term 'cool' advisedly, as in, if you stay inside watching movies, you'll stay 'cool.' Of course, the films in the fest's lineup can also rightly be described as 'cool' for genre fans. In addition to Haunt, the North American premiere of The Sonata and the East Coast premiere of Bit are early highlights. Haunt is described thusly: "The latest chiller from the writers of the acclaimed A Quiet Place present another deliciously gory scarefest for horror...

While Look Away might dive into a lot of teenage-minded subjects, the themes of isolation and insecurity at the center of the psychological thriller’s narrative are easily relatable to anyone at any age. Starring India Eisley as the film’s protagonist Maria, we watch as the awkward and overly shy teen grapples with her identity when she decides to let her doppelgänger take control of her life, which ends up resulting in some tragic circumstances.
Written and directed by Assaf Bernstein, Look Away also stars Jason Isaacs, Mira Sorvino, Penelope Mitchell, and Harrison Gilbertson, and it arrives in limited theaters this Friday, courtesy of Vertical Entertainment.
Earlier this week, Daily Dead had the opportunity to speak with Bernstein, as well as with co-stars Eisley and Isaacs, about working together on Look Away as well as how the film’s story taps into the everyday isolation most of us feel...

What with even the most obscure, and microscopic installments of Stephen King’s oeuvre getting the big screen treatment these days, it’s becoming increasingly more challenging to decode which Master of Horror adaptation to keep tabs on. Granted, there’s been one reworking continually pinging on the radar – It: Chapter Two – but another conversion might’ve just stolen Pennywise’s thunder.
According to Deadline, 20th Century Fox is close to acquiring a pitch package centered on an adaptation of the Stephen King short story, The Boogeyman, penned by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods – the writing duo behind monstrous box office success, A Quiet Place – and produced by Shawn Levy, Dan Levine and Dan Cohen of 21 Laps (Stranger Things).

While Adam McKay is certainly no novice when it comes to making successful films – he is the man behind Anchorman, after all – he is currently enjoying something of a surge in interest, following the release of his latest movie, The Big Short. The reason for such interest is that the award-baiting film covers some dramatic ground previously uncharted by the director, who is renowned for his comedy output. But, even while promoting The Big Short, the filmmaker cannot escape questions about Ant-Man And The Wasp.
Adam McKay found himself working with Marvel on the 2015 film Ant-Man after original writer-director Edgar Wright stepped away from the project, and was replaced at the helm by Peyton Reed. McKay was enlisted to work with star Paul Rudd on re-writing the script that had first been delivered by Wright and his collaborator Joe Cornish. With that partnership deemed a success, Vulture asked McKay if...

The Transformers writer’s room has been making the headlines recently, adding more and more names to the list of storytellers who have been tasked with moving the franchise forward through a range of prequels, sequels and spin-offs. The final piece has now fallen into place with the announcement that Steven DeKnight will take the last seat at that table. DeKnight is riding a wave a success following the impressive debut of the first season of Daredevil on Netflix – a series for which he was showrunner, in addition to writing, directing and producing.
DeKnight joins a creative team that already consists of Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down), Geneva Robertson-Dworet (whose script Hibernation was featured on the Black List), Christina Hodson (Shut In), newcomer Lindsey Beer, Andrew Barrer (Haunt), Gabriel Ferrari (Barrer’s writing partner), Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead), Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man), Zak Penn (Avengers Assemble...

Halloween is coming, and you know what that means… horror themed haunted houses and mazes. Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year, and it's always fun going out and finding places that offer some fun scares.
Director Bobby Roe took the concept of haunted houses and mazes and used it as an idea for a new found footage horror film that he calls The Houses October Built. The story follows five friends who embark on a road trip to find the ultimate underground haunt. This leads to some disturbing and strange experiences. This is something I'd actually love to do for real, but I could do without the real aspect of death.
This may be a found footage horror film, which people are getting tired of these days, but it seems to work fine for this particular story. I think this is a really cool idea for a movie,...

Buying a house after three kids and their father all met gruesome ends while living there is apparently nothing to be squeamish about for the Ashers, the family at the center of the horror film Haunt. Rather, they jump at the chance to purchase the supposedly cursed Morello home after former pediatrician Dr. Morello (the divinely weird Jacki Weaver, best known as the matriarch of Silver Linings Playbook) decides that losing her entire family in a variety of tragic and disturbing ways is enough of a reason to get out. Like the Morellos, the Ashers also have three children. And like the Morellos, they too will soon discover that the big, beautiful old house has a dark, ugly spirit inhabiting it.

The duo behind Sony’s upcoming take on Sabrina The Teenage Witch are in negotiations to take a stab at the script for Marvel’s tiniest hero. Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari made the 2010 Black List fresh out of Nyu with Die In A Gunfight and later scored the scripting gig on the horror pic Haunt. Now the pair is eyed to rewrite Ant-Man for director Peyton Reed, who replaced Edgar Wright last month. Adam McKay did the most recent pass on the script about the shrinking superhero. Marvel wouldn’t comment. Barrer & Ferrari are repped by Wme and Caliber Media. […]...

It has a cast that includes Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas, but Ant-Man apparently still doesn't have a screenplay that Marvel Studios are happy with. Following the departure of Edgar Wright over creative differences, and a subsequent pass by Adam McKay, the latest draft has been taken on by the writing team of Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari. The pair landed themselves on the buzzy Black List for 2010, right after graduating from Nyu, with the screenplay for their still un-produced drama Die In A Gunfight. They've since had their horror pic Haunt (not to be confused with Vincenzo Natali's Haunter) brought to the screen with Harrison Gilbertson in the lead, and they've also been at work on Jonathan Levine's Legend and the developing Sabrina The Teenage Witch reboot.Too many cooks, or necessary triage? Whatever's going on, Marvel and new director Peyton Reed are clearly finding Ant-Man a particularly tough nut to crack.

*full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was provided by IFC Films. Director: Mac Carter. Writer: Andrew Barrer. Cast: Harrison Gilbertson, Liana Liberato, Jacki Weaver and Ione Skye. Haunt is an indie horror feature from first time director Mac Carter. As well, the film was developed from one of writer Andrew Barrer's first scripts. And, the central cast is a young twosome: Liana Liberato and Harrison Gilbertson. All of this newness should create for a few interesting bits. But, Haunt is a fairly straight-forward haunted house horror tale. Only a few jump scares and an interesting late reveal, in the story department, create any intrigue. Haunt needed a few more shocks and surprises along the way to break up the film's tedium. In the story, a large manor serves as the film's focal point. Here, the Morello family were cursed by spirits of a netherworld. Five family members were tormented,...

It would have been nice to see a film of this ilk with some ingenuity. And it would have been greatly satisfying had the movie actually been frightening. But Haunt shouldnt be sold entirely short. You may not be terrified by the flick but youre likely to be entertained. It looks beautiful. Hell even the computer generated effects are quite polished. And those performances well theyre worth lauding. There is a lot of passion packed in this package. And even if director Mac Carter and writer Andrew Barrer didnt stir any serious imagination with the ideology at work they scored in other key areas that are just prominent enough to lure viewers in. Ill watch this one a second time somewhere down the road and thats a good sign.

With a star-studded adapation of his bestseller The Fault In Our Stars, about the unusual romance between two teen cancer patients, primed to light up the box office this June, it’s safe to say that novelist John Green is having a pretty phenomenal 2014. Today, Green got even more great news, with Fox 2000′s announcement that the studio has picked up his book Paper Towns and plans to reteam with The Fault In Our Stars writers Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, producers Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen, and co-star Nat Wolff, for the adaptation.
Considering how well The Fault In Our Stars is tracking (its first trailer broke 3 million views in less than 24 hours), Fox 2000′s enthusiasm in extending its working relationship with Green doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Paper Towns is widely considered to be one of his best works, so fan anticipation is already high for the adaptation.

For his feature film debut, up-and-coming director Mac Carter gives us his own spin on various familiar haunted house tropes in the “better than its bland name would suggest” supernatural thriller Haunt.
It’s opening, ripe in self-awareness that we’re all more than familiar with every kind of supernatural story under the sun these days, establishes early that while Haunt may not be necessarily the most original horror movie you’ll see this year, that doesn’t mean it can’t be a well-crafted, finely executed and highly enjoyable one all the same.
Haunt begins by setting us up with a backstory to its tale, creating an early sense of tension after we witness a grieving man, desperate to make contact with his deceased family, unleashes something far more dangerous than he could possibly imagine via a mysterious box that can communicate with the dead. The story then catches...

Haunt Me Tender: Carter’s Debut Reduced to Derivative Schlock
As Mac Carter’s directorial debut, Haunt, quickly unfurls a haul of standard haunted house clichés, don’t be surprised if you’re put in mind of a couple James Wan features. In fact, there’s not much by way of originality to be experienced as far as its narrative is concerned, a film that chugs along until it finally arrives at a revelation that feels as predictable as it is unenthusiastically rendered. In fact, the film’s opening narration attempts to address this issue, and does actually temper what it’s lacking in chills with considerable effort in providing us with a pair of protagonists that elevates the material. Despite Carter and screenwriter Andrew Barrer’s efforts, an overabundance in supernatural flourishes in the second half severely detracts from any mounting dread inspired by its fitting design, which cheapens...

"I think it's important to look around and appreciate how lucky we are," a mother states in Haunt, a horror debut from Mac Carter.
Emblematic of much of the film's problems, this "lucky" family is never shown behaving harmoniously — a rote line of dialogue will have to suffice.
Action is replaced with exposition even in the film's press notes, which indicate teenage son Evan (Harrison Gilbertson) is moody; other than the occasional mopey facial expression, there's little to suggest he's a volatile teen, or any other kind of teen at all, as he's given little to do except thrust the narrative forward.
