Matt Damon might soon find himself getting roped into Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s divorce drama.
As we previously reported, Ben and Jen did not sign a prenup before they tied the knot in 2022.
And because of that baffling decision, it will not be easy for the exes to simply go their separate ways.

In order to deliver the 2,000 costumes – including approximately 400 specialty costumes and bespoke “stillsuits”– for Denis Villeneuve’s visually captivating and masterfully adapted sci-fi epic Dune, the director enlisted the help of costume designers Jacqueline West and Bob Morgan, whose work on the film is currently nominated at the upcoming Oscars.
With her background in art history, former fashion designer West is a four-time Academy Award nominee, whose credits include Quills, Argo and The Revenant. Having previously collaborated with West as costume supervisor on the Prohibition-era gangster drama Live by Night, Morgan’s long list of credits includes Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Man of Steel. This is Morgan’s first costume design credit on a feature – and his first Oscar nomination.

Sienna Miller and Ben Affleck starred together in the 2016 film, Live By Night, which the actor himself helmed. He was riding high on the success of his Oscar-winning film Argo, but this next film proved to be a complete disaster. It took years for Affleck to take on another project as a director. Miller may have identified one of the issues which affected the emotional quality of the film. She revealed that she had zero chemistry with Affleck.

In a devastating (but perhaps none too surprising) blow to Dad Cinema enthusiasts the world over, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's acclaimed true-story Nike drama "Air" was completely ignored by the Academy when Oscar nominations were announced earlier this week. However, if you were expecting the Oscar-winning duo/best buds to spend the immediate future licking their wounds and wallowing in self-pity, guess again. According to The Hollywood Reporter, they've instead gone and lined up their next project together -- an original crime thriller titled "Animals," which now has Netflix backing it.
Having previously gone under working titles like "The Animals of Los Angeles" and "Be Gentlemen," the new Affleck-Damon joint will see Damon starring and Affleck directing from a script by Connor McIntyre with revisions from "Shattered Glass" and "Captain Phillips" scribe Billy Ray. The plot involves (per THR) "a mayoral candidate and his wife whose son is kidnapped.

It doesn’t take much prompting to get actor Chris Messina to list all the ways he and his “Air” character, the iconic sports agent David Falk, diverge. “I’m nothing like David Falk. He’s taller than me. He has no hair. He’s brilliant,” Messina said during a recent interview with IndieWire. “Our one similarity: we’re both from Long Island.”
But Messina’s obvious admiration for the guy — one of the primary movers of the landmark deal his client Michael Jordan struck with Nike as a rookie, a fascinating true-life story that serves as the basis of Ben Affleck’s latest film — shines through, too. As the fierce sports agent, supporting standout Messina spends most of “Air” hamming it up on the phone, negotiating deals, yelling a lot, and having a tremendous amount of fun.

The Gotham Awards have announced that actor and filmmaker Ben Affleck‘s “Air” will be honored with the Visionary Icon and Creator Tribute when awards are handed out on Monday night, November 27, at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.
“Air” follows Sonny Vaccaro (played by Matt Damon), the basketball talent scout for Nike who in 1984 fought to bring fledgling talent Michael Jordan onboard as a new spokesperson for the company’s basketball shoes. In addition to directing the film, Affleck has a co-starring role as Nike co-founder and CEO Phil Knight. This is the fifth feature film Affleck has helmed, following “Gone Baby Gone” (2007), “The Town” (2010), “Argo” (2012) and “Live by Night” (2016). All of those were nominated for Oscars save “Live by Night,” with “Argo” winning Affleck the award for Best Picture.

Jay Oliva, a storyboard artist who worked on several DC and Warner Bros. movies such as “Man of Steel,” “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Wonder Woman,” recently opened up to Inverse about Ben Affleck’s scrapped standalone Batman movie. Affleck debuted as Batman in Zack Snyder’s “Dawn of Justice” and reprised the role in “Justice League.” He was developing his own Batman movie to direct and star in before deciding to exit the role.
“I can’t really say too much other than it was fucking awesome,” Oliva told Inverse about Affleck’s Batman movie. “It was the best. It was amazing. From my understanding, there were a couple of drafts of it. When I was brought on, I don’t know whether it was the second draft or something, but it was what Geoff Johns and Ben [Affleck] had shown me.”

Over Easter weekend, Amazon Studios opened Ben Affleck‘s “Air” nationwide in over 3,300 theaters after the movie received an enormous amount of buzz at its SXSW Film Festival premiere. The movie grossed over $20 million in its first five days and has now grossed over $33 million.

A little over a year after Ben Affleck mused he would never make a theatrically released movie again, and insisting he wanted to focus on non-franchise films for adult audiences, the filmmaker nonetheless enjoyed one of the happiest box office stories of 2023. To be sure, this past holiday weekend was dominated by yet another “IP movie,” as Affleck is wont to say, The Super Mario Bros. Movie. However, in the shadow of that film’s gargantuan $205.5 million across five days, Affleck’s own adult-skewing drama, Air, also dominated the court in its own league, grossing $20.2 million over five days.

Ben Affleck hasn't directed a film since 2016's misfire "Live by Night," but the filmmaker is back with "Air" and, despite heavy competition from "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," it's clear that audiences were very much into having him back behind the camera. The film, which is all about how Michael Jordan's legendary partnership with Nike came to be, is an R-rated, adult-focused drama and the exact type of movie that has struggled at the box office since the pandemic began. But Amazon Studios and Affleck prevailed.
While "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" topped the charts handily with a stellar, record-breaking $377 million global opening, "Air" quietly did pretty well for itself. The sports industry biopic pulled in $14.46 million over the three-day stretch, very nearly slipping into the number three spot ahead of "Dungeons & Dragons." Busy week sees 19 releases, including Ben Affleck’s ‘Air’, and ‘The Pope’s Exorcist’.
Universal’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie will smash the record for widest UK-Ireland opening by an animated film this weekend, starting its run in 721 sites.
That is 31 sites above the 690-site opening for the previous record holder, Disney’s Toy Story 4 from 2019.
Adapted from the best-selling Nintendo game series, The Super Mario Bros. Movie tells the story of two Italian-American siblings trying to get their plumbing business off the ground, who are accidentally drawn into a battle to save a magical land called the Mushroom Kingdom.

It’ll be the second 2023 release, following Disney’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” ($106 million) to open above $100 million.
“Mario” will easily lead domestic box office charts over last weekend’s champ, “Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” as well as fellow newcomer “Air,” a sports drama directed by Ben Affleck.
Ticket sales for “D&d” are projected to drop by 50-55% after its $37.2 million opening weekend. It’ll be in a close race for second place with “Air,” which debuts on Wednesday and aims...

Sonny Vaccaro knows his basketball. As played with reliable conviction by Matt Damon, the head scout in Nike’s dwindling hoops division has a keen eye for the next great players, attending high school all-star tournaments around the country and scanning for potential endorsements. But Sonny is also a gambler, and on the tail end of his trips he jets over to Las Vegas to lock in a couple parlays, betting on NBA money lines and spreads before throwing all his winnings away at the craps table a minute later. You get the sense this has become his beleaguered ritual. At some point those basketball instincts and his penchant to go for broke will align and finally pay off.
It’s a shrewd preview of what’s to come in Air, director Ben Affleck’s entertaining, workmanlike retelling of how Vaccaro helped an underdog shoe company sink a half-court heave...

As a director, Ben Affleck has proven himself to be a versatile, compelling talent, moving seamlessly from the morally complex “Gone Baby Gone” to the stark crime drama “The Town” to the tense and thrilling best picture winner “Argo.” Even Affleck’s one directorial misstep, the critically panned box office bomb “Live by Night,” has an intriguing gloss and conviction.
That’s why it’s so difficult for many viewers to answer: “Which Affleck-directed joint is your favorite?” Well, that decision may get even harder with the arrival of “Air,” Affleck’s latest feature which premiered as the Closing Night film at the South by Southwest Film Festival earlier this month.

For all the headlines written about Ben Affleck’s mid-career return to superhero movies, one still must wonder what movies we missed from Director Affleck while Actor Affleck was otherwise preoccupied. Even accounting for the commercial hiccup that was “Live by Night,” Affleck proved himself as a notable director in just a handful of films, putting himself on an upwards trajectory that was unceremoniously interrupted by his franchise work. So even setting aside the tabloid narratives about his personal life, Affleck’s return to the director’s chair in “Air” is something to be celebrated.

Ben Affleck has been a mainstay of the screen for three decades, dating back to his days in "Dazed and Confused," all the way up through his recent acclaimed turns in films like "The Last Duel." But while Affleck has continued to work as an actor very consistently, it has been a full seven years since he stepped behind the camera to direct a film in the form of 2016's unfortunate flop "Live by Night." At long last though, Affleck is back with his latest directorial effort "Air," which tells the story of how Nike created its legendary Air Jordan line of shoes around Michael Jordan, aka the greatest basketball player in the history of the game. To put it simply, having Affleck back behind the camera is welcome.

A number of great movies are leaving HBO Max at the end of March, so it’s time to prioritize these titles in your queue. Filmmaker James Gunn’s sequel/soft reboot “The Suicide Squad” will depart the streaming service on March 22 after first hitting HBO Max the same day it was released in theaters back in 2021. Similarly, “Space Jam: A New Legacy” was whisked away on March 1 after also getting a day-and-date release in 2021 (sorry/not sorry if you missed it).
You also only have until March 7 to stream “Just a Boy From Tupelo: Bringing Elvis to the Big Screen,” a short documentary on the making of the Oscar-nominated biopic “Elvis.”
Other noteworthy films leaving HBO Max this month include “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” “Contagion,” the extended version of “Dances with Wolves,” “Ghostbusters,” “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” “Love & Basketball” and “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.

On the biggest sports day of the year, fans are getting another look at what may end up being the year’s biggest sports movie. Just a week after releasing the first trailer for “Air,” Ben Affleck’s new drama about Nike’s attempt to sign Michael Jordan to an endorsement deal, Amazon Studios debuted a new 60-second spot in a commercial that aired during Super Bowl Lvii. The company reportedly spent 7 million on the airtime, which many have interpreted as yet another vote of confidence in the film’s quality.

Returning to the director’s chair for the first time in seven years, following 2016’s Live by Night, Ben Affleck’s latest feature is immersed in the world of sports marketing. Air, from a Black List script by Alex Convery, follows the real-life story of Nike’s quest in signing Michael Jordan. Backed by Amazon Studios, Damon plays sports marketer Sonny Vaccaro, whose signing of Jordan in the mid-80s was, of course, a major coup for the company and forever changed their global reach. Along with directing, Affleck takes the role of Nike co-founder Phil Knight.
Also starring Jason Bateman, Chris Messina, Marlon Wayans, Chris Tucker, and Viola Davis, the first trailer has now arrived for what will kick off a plan of major theatrical releases for Amazon Studios. With no Prime Video launch date announced yet, the film will get a global worldwide theatrical debut starting on April 5.

Somewhere in the multiverse, there's a reality where Ben Affleck directed and starred in "The Batman," resulting in a very different David Fincher-styled take on the Caped Crusader than the one Matt Reeves gave us in 2022. Instead, the true story basketball industry drama "Air" will serve as Affleck's long-awaited return to the director's chair and the followup to his 2016 period gangster flick, "Live By Night." Despite being generally considered Affleck's first real misfire behind the camera (though he still has fond feelings about it), that movie's not enough on its own to make you forget about his gripping direction on "Gone Baby Gone" or the propulsive thrills he delivered with "The Town" and "Argo" (even with the way the latter bends the facts of the actual historical events that inspired it and resorts to stereotypes in its depiction of the Middle East).
Thankfully, "Air" finds Affleck operating more in...

Jennifer Lopez may have taken a page out of her film “Marry Me” by saying “I do” to longtime love Ben Affleck, but the Grammy winner revealed Oscar winner Affleck also had a past movie quote up his sleeve. During their September 20 wedding reception, Affleck apparently quoted his own 2016 film “Live by Night,” which he wrote, directed, produced, and starred in. Based on Dennis Lehane’s 2012 novel of the same name, “Live by Night” follows a gangster through his existential crisis.

The late, wonderful Ray Liotta died last month at the age of 67, but he still has a number of projects coming out posthumously.
That includes the limited drama series “Black Bird,” a true-crime psychological thriller developed and executive-produced by “Gone Baby Gone,” “Mystic River,” and “Shutter Island” author Dennis Lehane. Apple TV+ premieres the first two episodes on Friday, July 8, with one following each week through August 5. Watch the official trailer below.
The series is adapted from the memoir “In with the Devil: A Fallen Hero, A Serial Killer, and A Dangerous Bargain for Redemption” by James Keene and Hillel Levin. Ray Liotta is one of an ensemble that includes Taron Egerton as Jimmy Keene, a local high school football star and decorated policeman’s son who is sentenced to 10 years in a minimum-security prison. But he’s given a choice: enter a maximum-security prison for the criminally insane and...

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are reteaming for a Nike drama that Affleck will direct for Amazon Studios, Skydance Sports and Mandalay Pictures, Deadline can confirm.
The as-yet-untitled sports marketing film will tell the incredible story of how Sonny Vaccaro (Damon), a maverick sneaker salesman, led a fledgling running shoe company called Nike in its pursuit of the most transformative athlete in the history of sports: Michael Jordan. Affleck will portray Nike co-founder Phil Knight in the story surrounding Nike’s longshot effort to sign Jordan to its shoe company in the mid-’80s, an endorsement that seemed impossible at the time but which would become the most significant relationship between an athletic brand and an athlete and launched the global, multibillion-dollar contemporary sneaker industry.
Sonny’s relentless quest to sign Jordan to what was then the third-place shoe company takes him to Jordan’s parents, and in particular his powerful,...

Sienna Miller starred opposite Ben Affleck in the 2016 gangster drama “Live by Night,” which Affleck also directed. The Warner Bros. release starred Affleck as a bootlegger turned gangster and Miller as his love interest, who also happens to be the mistress of a powerful mob boss. According to Miller, her chemistry with Affleck hardly burned the screen down.
“Ben Affleck was like my brother [on set],” Miller said on “The Drew Barrymore Show” (via EW). “I’ve never laughed so much in my life. I mean that sounds like a ridiculous thing to say and like a name dropping thing to say, but I actually mean it.”
“We had zero chemistry whatsoever. It was hysterical,” Miller added. “We were supposed to be in love. We could not be less attracted to each other, which was hysterical. He has an enormous head, I have a small one, so they’d have to like...
