In the first draft, Edith's only contact was her grandfather. Michael Paré, John Savage and Carel Struycken were all considered for the role, before the character was rewritten and Lynn Lowry was cast.

Director József Gallai also makes a cameo appearance as Peter, whom he named after his son.
