Brad Anderson’s Silent Hour is a gripping story that combines human conflict with high-stakes suspense. With Joel Kinnaman as Detective Frank Shaw, Sandra Mae Frank as Ava, Mark Strong as his friend Doug Slater, and Mekhi Phifer as the villain, the film explores the difficulties experienced by people with impairments in navigating a hazardous environment.
Filmed against the background of a soon-to-be-condemned Boston apartment building, the narrative centers on Detective Shaw, who has gradual hearing loss after a failed police operation. His life veers dramatically when he is assigned to translate for Ava, a deaf witness to a murder connected to gangs. As the exact criminals they are attempting to avoid approach them, the conflict becomes more intense, and it becomes a cat-and-mouse game that has both exciting and emotionally heavy results.

Cut off from the outside world; these two strangers must lean on each other to outsmart killers they can’t hear coming for their only hope of making it out alive.

Rick Flag was one of only four characters from David Ayer's 2016 film to return for James Gunn's The Suicide Squad along with Harley Quinn, Amanda Waller and Boomerang, but things didn't work out so well for the honourable military man.
Unfortunately, Corto Maltese marked Flag's final mission, as he was killed by Peacemaker (John Cena) after threatening to leak the Starro files. While it wouldn't exactly be unheard of for a comic book movie character to return from the dead, we had assumed that the chances of seeing Kinnaman back in the role were very slim.
Then, earlier this year, Peacemaker season 2 director Peter Sollett tagged Joel Kinnaman in his social media post announcing that he'd completed filming his episodes, seemingly confirming that the actor was set to reprise his role for the Max spin-off series.
Screen Rant asked Kinnaman about this while chatting to him about his new movie,...

Joel Kinnaman recently starred in John Woo‘s film Silent Night, which emphasized action over dialogue. Kinnaman now stars in another similar auditory-themed action film titled The Silent Hour. Here, Kinnaman’s character suffers a gradual loss of hearing due to an on-the-job incident while trying to catch a criminal. Mekhi Phifer leads a group of bad guys dead-set on collecting evidence from a deaf witness. And the action explodes as our hearing-impaired protagonists try to escape the impending danger. Paramount has just released the trailer. The Silent Hour hits theaters and digital on October 11.
The official synopsis reads,
“Boston Detective Frank Shaw (Joel Kinnaman) returns to duty after a career-altering injury leaves him with permanent hearing loss. Tasked with interpreting for Ava Fremont (Sandra Mae Frank), a deaf witness to a brutal gang murder, they find themselves cornered in a soon-to-be-condemned apartment building when the killers return to eliminate her.

"Will you catch them?" Republic Pictures has unveiled an official trailer for a crime thriller film titled The Silent Hour, the latest from filmmaker Brad Anderson. This action thriller will debut in theaters and on VOD starting in October if anyone's curious, without showing up at any festivals either. The film follows a hearing impaired police detective who works as an interpreter for the department and must confront a team of corrupt cops trying to eliminate a deaf murder witness who lives alone in an apartment building. "Cut off from the outside world, these two strangers must lean on each other to outsmart killers they can’t hear coming for their only hope of making it out alive." Starring Joel Kinnaman along with Sandra Mae Frank, Mekhi Phifer, Michael Eklund, and Mark Strong. This looks so cheap & derivative, it's sad they still keep making more of these. // Continue Reading ›...

Joel Kinnaman (For All Mankind) is attached to star in They Found Us, an alien abduction thriller to be directed for AGC Studios and Temple Hill by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Neill Blomkamp (District 9), which will head into production in Australia later this year.
The film to be fully financed by Stuart Ford’s fast-growing independent content studio, AGC Studios, is based on an original screenplay by Jeremy Slater, whose credits include Moon Knight, Fantastic Four, The Exorcist, The Lazarus Effect and The Umbrella Academy. It will follow a father (Kinnaman) and his daughter Kaylee as they undertake a camping trip in the Utah wilderness to heal their broken relationship. After being attacked by a hostile extraterrestrial lifeform, their lives — not just their relationship — wind up at stake, as they fight with a humanoid beast to stop their abduction to an unknown and terrifying alien world.

Exclusive: Ahead of EFM, Capstone Global and Hammerstone Studios have shared a first-look image of Nicolas Cage and Joel Kinnaman in Sympathy for the Devil, the upcoming psychological thriller from Yuval Adler (The Secrets We Keep).
Written by Luke Paradise (the upcoming Lost on a Mountain in Maine), the pic follows “The Driver” (Kinnaman), who finds himself in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse after being forced to drive a mysterious man, “The Passenger” (Cage). As their white-knuckle ride progresses, it becomes clear that not everything is as it seems.
Christian Mercuri’s Capstone Studios is handling world sales on the pic and has reteamed with Alex Lebovici’s Hammerstone Studios to produce alongside Cage’s Saturn Films. Capstone and Hammerstone previously collaborated on Boy Kills World, an action-thriller starring Bill Skarsgård, currently in post-production.
“Fans can expect an adrenaline rush watching these two powerhouse talents go toe-to-toe,” said producer Allan Ungar.
