Exclusive: Eric Paquette’s Meridian Pictures is readying survival-thriller The Edge and has set Danish filmmaker Kasper Torsting to direct.

Written by Jordan Barber and produced by Aaron Barnett, Jessica Postigo, Eric Paquette, and The Exchange’s Brian O’Shea, the film will tell the story of a romantic escape that turns deadly when a bus plunges off a mountain road. Faced with a harrowing decision, a woman whose partner has been killed must save herself and a ten-year-old boy while battling unforgiving terrain, brutal weather, and the grief of losing her love.

“The Silent Hour” is a new live-action crime thriller directed by Brad Anderson starring Joel Kinnaman, Sandra Mae Frank, Mekhi Phifer, and Mark Strong, opening October 11, 2024 in theaters:

“…sixteen months after an on-the-job accident leaves him with hearing loss, a Boston police detective (Kinnaman) and his partner (Strong) are drawn into a life-threatening conflict.

“They must protect a deaf murder witness (Frank) who lives in a vulnerable apartment building.

Rick Flag was one of only four characters from David Ayer's 2016 film to return for James Gunn's The Suicide Squad along with Harley Quinn, Amanda Waller and Boomerang, but things didn't work out so well for the honourable military man.

Unfortunately, Corto Maltese marked Flag's final mission, as he was killed by Peacemaker (John Cena) after threatening to leak the Starro files. While it wouldn't exactly be unheard of for a comic book movie character to return from the dead, we had assumed that the chances of seeing Kinnaman back in the role were very slim.

Here, Kinnaman’s character suffers a gradual loss of hearing due to an on-the-job incident while trying to catch a criminal. Mekhi Phifer leads a group of bad guys dead-set on collecting evidence from a deaf witness. And the action explodes as our hearing-impaired protagonists try to escape the impending danger. Exclusive: Venezuelan Filmmaker Jonathan Jakubowicz, best known for Resistance and Hands of Stone, has signed on to direct the feature Cottonwood for Eric Paquette’s Meridian Pictures.

The film will be produced by Paquette, Aaron Barnett, and The Exchange’s Brian O’Shea, with Claudine Jakubowicz serving as executive producer. The Exchange will be handling worldwide sales and arranging financing.

The story follows a single dad who left his troubled past behind but must confront his dark history when his former mentor, a dangerous gangster, resurfaces. As the mentor’s loyalty to him is tested, he becomes the target of the gangster’s own bloodthirsty son, forcing him to protect his 13-year-old son from a relentless killer.

Jakubowicz was the winner of the German Film Peace Prize 2020 for his film Resistance. His film Secuestro Express was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the British Independent Film Awards, and Hands of Stone premiered at Cannes.

The cast of the Stefan Ruzowitzky-directed thriller Ice Fall expands with Danny Huston (Wonder Woman), Graham Greene, Martin Sensmeier (Yellowstone), Oliver Trevena, and DeVaughn Nixon (Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty) joining Joel Kinnaman and Cara Jade Myers for a race against time to recover millions.

AGC Studios chief creative officer Lourdes Diaz has signed a new multi-year employment agreement and has been elevated to partner with a seat on the board of the independent film and television studio.

The promotion comes on the back of founders Stuart Ford, chairman and CEO, and Miguel Palos, chief operating office, themselves signing new multi-year agreements late last year.

Since AGC launched in 2018, it has become one of Hollywood’s leading production and financing players, with 41 major film and TV productions under its belt.

The movie will follow the story of a female airline pilot who wrests control of a 747 from a male captain caught in a severe thunderstorm, leaving the plane incommunicado. AGC chairman and CEO Stuart Ford will serve as producer alongside Karim on the story of Dr. Sherif Hawass (Karim), a renowned Egyptologist who must save the world and the woman he loves after he unknowingly releases an ancient evil found in one of his artifacts.

Exclusive: Ahead of EFM, Capstone Global and Hammerstone Studios have shared a first-look image of Nicolas Cage and Joel Kinnaman in Sympathy for the Devil, the upcoming psychological thriller from Yuval Adler (The Secrets We Keep).

Written by Luke Paradise (the upcoming Lost on a Mountain in Maine), the pic follows “The Driver” (Kinnaman), who finds himself in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse after being forced to drive a mysterious man, “The Passenger” (Cage). As their white-knuckle ride progresses, it becomes clear that not everything is as it seems.

Christian Mercuri’s Capstone Studios is handling world sales on the pic and has reteamed with Alex Lebovici’s Hammerstone Studios to produce alongside Cage’s Saturn Films. Capstone and Hammerstone previously collaborated on Boy Kills World, an action-thriller starring Bill Skarsgård, currently in post-production.
