What's interesting about Budi Pekerti is that it takes the most relevant elements in social media life today: virality, cancel culture, and popularity. In his latest feature film after Photocopier (2021), Wregas Bhanuteja presents characters full of ethical and personality complexity which have to face the nightmare of their actions because of social media which causes the boundaries of morality to become blurred. Wregas is an expert in exploring human emotions and how a person's choices will have consequences, especially those that happen to Mrs. Prani (played extraordinary by Sha Ine Febriyanti) so this film feels very close to us. What Wregas did was so precise and effective that Budi Pekerti deserves to be one of the best Indonesian films in 2023.
A film that can be considered an educational film but also has a plot and morals that cannot be judged that quickly.
The film is set in Jogjakarta during the pandemic, the storyline is interesting and not boring, even this film is not classified as an action category film but the audience can feel the tension.
A film that is more than just a national level film is even more worthy of being said to be an international class film, interesting visuals do not make the audience bored and sleepy.
Maybe this will be the best Indonesian film released in 2023, in my opinion.
9/10 rating which is very suitable and fitting.

Good story, good script, but poor casting. Ine didn't show enough how stressful her character supposedly. Many scenes may be acceptable for foreign spectators but not for indonesians because those are not common and almost unreal on daily basis, e.g the presentation in small room with only few audiences but still use mic and enhanced speaker/sound system, the repetition of using neon ring in recording video, the teachers/school staffs silky uniform, and the autopeds.
Ine, Dwi and Prilly well representing the look of javanese but not Angga neither the Gora character, much better if Gora is a dark skin boy to appear as a disturbed person. Indeed not all javanese have dark skin, but only few have light skin. This would take the audience more to the vibe of central java, the hot air, mostly drought in long summer, etc.
I also found director pushing Ine to shed tears in many scenes by put the camera focusing on her in minutes, frankly tears were just hanging in her eyes, question is why not to put a bit of fake tears on it? Prilly is the only actress which easily shed tears which suit the drama.

This movie will leave you speechless! Loved the detail and the way the story was told. All the actors did a great job at their character roles and the story was kept to the point. I am really hoping people can see this gem around the world because it makes you realize the power that social media holds. This movies holds the truth on how social media can impact someone in both positive and negative ways. The pressure of social media can really change your life. This film does a really great job showing how it can in many different aspects. It is a movie for the whole family and I especially loved watching this at TIFF!

This movie is the best movie in this year, it can show you that social media sometimes can be a bad place for us. It can be a harmful place if we don't use it wisely. Like in the story here Ms. Prani a conselor teacher who is being the victim of scoial media. She did nothing wrong and she accused of speaking rude to a putu seller. And now Ms. Prani and her family needs to face and find the way out from the trouble that influencers have made. They have to stay strong. From this movie we learn to not supposed to believe something that viral without searching for the prove first. And also we have to stay strong for facing the world.

This movie will open your eyes to the social issues that are currently happening in Indonesia and the world from media and netizen framing, the logic of profit, lust/desire for viral, and hoaxes, what I can underline from the movie is an "explosion of opinion rather than a search for truth" which has become a new culture everywhere, It's hard to state the truth even if it's true. This movie does a really good job of showing what Indonesians and the rest of society have become. The movie will make you shed tears, laugh, and be touched. Great job for everyone the director, cast, and everyone who works on this film. Something new and fresh in Indonesian cinema. Best of luck Andragogy Budi Pekerti!

Social media could be very helpful and in other way it could bring us to bottom of our life
This movie bring us a reality about our current situation mostly in Indonesia and maybe another country
I could draw theory of relativity shown by the effect of social media throuh this movie
We must manage our conscience while we are surfing with social media
This movie also telling us about andragogy and it could be very powerful if it is used in environment with open mind culture
Really enjoyable movie with background in Yogyakarta, one of the best city in Java that known as a city with culture that put conscience at the first place.

There are plenty of films about social media but this is just pitch perfect. At the heart is a dysfunctional family. Where the mom is a counselor at a school her offspring social media influencers. This is thrown out of balance when she's caught swearing in public and then both her two kids and then school board are trying to manage the fallout on social media. What then follows is an emotional but also hugely entertaining roller-coaster of mishaps, short moments of relief which are then followed by other unpredictable reactions from social media. This is all hugely engaging because of perfect character development, a very dense script, amazing visuals and fantastic acting. Even that it's all of course constructed it feels natural and one roots with every single family member.
Budi Pekerti is a compelling Indonesian film that dives deeply into the complexities of social values, morality, and human behavior. The story follows a family caught in a web of misunderstandings and moral conflicts after a public incident. This film does a remarkable job of exploring how society often rushes to judgment, showing the impact of public opinion and social media on individual lives.
The film excels in its portrayal of realistic, flawed characters who are forced to navigate difficult moral choices. It pushes viewers to confront their own biases, making them reflect on what it means to act with integrity in a world that frequently prioritizes appearances over honesty. The performances are strong and nuanced, especially from the lead actors who bring a raw vulnerability to their roles, making the audience empathize with their struggles.
Director Wregas Bhanuteja successfully uses this narrative to question society's inclination to judge and the implications of cancel culture. The film's atmosphere is heightened by its careful cinematography and well-chosen soundtrack, which create a sense of tension and realism.
Overall, Budi Pekerti is a thought-provoking film that resonates deeply with the current social landscape, serving as a reminder to look beyond superficial judgments. It's an impactful watch for those interested in films that challenge societal norms and promote introspection.

This film tells the reality that is happening now, namely the era of social media where a lot of hoax news is being spread and many people believe this news. The storyline of this film is very easy to understand and the acting of the actors is also very good. And it turned out that when the scene was about to move house, it turned out that it wasn't raining on the shooting location and the production team added a very realistic rain effect. I give my appreciation to the editing team. In my opinion, what is missing from this film is that it doesn't exist. I recommend this film to be watched for all ages.
