A new slasher comedy film is coming to Shudder in 2025 and even better, it's from writer Nick Frost, who fans likely know best from his work in the Cornetto trilogy starring alongside Simon Pegg. Frost has been in all three films, starting with Shaun of the Dead (which turned 20 this year!).
His next project, Get Away, is a Sweden-set slasher movie following the Smith family on a vacation that goes terribly wrong when they realize they're stuck on an island with a serial killer. So, in a way, it's kind of like an island-set Trap.
Previously titled Svalta, the new title is far more fitting, featuring a clever play on words, though Svalta is the title of the island where the family vacations.
According to Deadline, IFC Films and Shudder have picked up the streaming rights for the XYZ film-produced in North America. It will start streaming on Shudder sometime in 2025. For those unfamiliar,...

Back in 2022, it was announced that Fighting with My Family co-stars Nick Frost and Lena Headey were going to reunite to work on the serial killer thriller Svalta, which was set to start filming in Finland soon… but then Headey had to drop out of the project due to scheduling issues before it started rolling in 2023 and was replaced by Aisling Bea, whose previous credits include This Way Up, Living with Yourself, and Home Sweet Home Alone. Now a press release has revealed that IFC Films and the Shudder streaming service have acquired the North American distribution rights to Svalta, which is now going by the title Get Away, and the plan is that IFC Films will be giving the movie a theatrical release on December 6th. Get Away will then make its way over to Shudder sometime in 2025.
Get Away was directed by Steffen Haars (New Kids Turbo) from a screenplay Frost wrote himself.

Get Away will first premiere at Fantastic Fest in September.
Written by and starring Nick Frost, the film follows a family on their summer vacation to a remote island where they discover a serial killer is on the loose. Unfortunately for them the locals have no interest in helping the stranded family.

IFC Films and Shudder Buy ‘Get Away,’ Comedic Slasher Movie With Nick Frost, Aisling Bea (Exclusive)
IFC Films and Shudder, AMC Networks’ streaming service for horror, thriller and the supernatural programming, announced today that they have acquired the North American rights to Steffen Haars’ comedic slasher movie, “Get Away.” The film, which was previously titled “Svalta,” was written by Nick Frost (“Paul”), who also stars alongside Aisling Bea (“This Way Up”) Sebastian Croft (“Heartstopper”), and newcomer Maisie Ayres. The film will have its world premiere at Fantastic Fest 2024 in September. It will then be released exclusively in theaters on Dec. 6, 2024, followed by its Shudder debut in 2025. Like Shudder, IFC is a division of AMC Networks.
“Get Away” follows a family’s vacation to a remote getaway. The trip takes an unexpected turn when they discover the island they’re on is inhabited by a serial killer.
The film is financed by XYZ Films. The company produced the film alongside John Hegeman of Wayward Entertainment, Lee Kim of Resolute Films and Frost.

Most of the time, Ethan Hawke is an indicator of quality -- or, if not that, then an ambition to make something meaningful. He's always taken the craft of acting seriously (something that spurred a good-natured war of attrition between him and Robin Williams while filming "Dead Poets Society"), but he's not haughty about it. He played a vampiric hematologist for The Spierig Brothers in 2009's "Daybreakers" and even joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his role as an Ammit-worshipping weirdo who pours glass shards in his shoes for "Moon Knight." Also, let's not forget that time he decked himself out in garish accessories to play the incredibly-named Jolly the Pimp in Luc Besson's eye-popping space opera "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" (a reminder that bad people can make spectacular art).
Alas, 2013's "Getaway" is the rare occasion where it's hard to imagine Hawke having signed...

When A Romantic Beach Getaway Turned Almost Fatal For Chris Pratt – Here’s What Happened Next! (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Sometimes, romantic escapades turn into a dreadful experience and stay engraved in people’s minds. Many of you would agree with this. At least the Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt would! The actor once had a near-fatal incident on a romantic break, and that was years even before his relationship with Anna Faris. During the promotion of his film The Magnificent Seven, the actor shared this frightful incident several years ago.
Chris gained recognition and fame as Andy Dwyer in the Parks and Recreation series, and after appearing in several movies as a supporting actor, his breakthrough came after playing Star-Lord in the MCU and as Owen Grady in the Jurassic World films. Pratt has also lent his voice in several animated movies and for the lead character. Some...

A select group of films has qualified for Academy Award consideration after winning prizes at the 27th LA Shorts Film Festival, the longest-running shorts festival in the movie capital.
Nowhere, directed by L.A.-based filmmaker Gavin Hovannisian, won the Best of Fest Award at a ceremony Sunday night. In the 11-minute narrative short, set in the fictional city of Nowhere, the protagonists are shadows that “dream of a life without their human masters.”
Also qualifying for Oscar consideration was It Takes a Village…, winner of Best International Film. Director Ophelia Harutyunyan’s drama “tells the story of Mariam, who lives in an Armenian Village where there are no men. On her birthday, her hopes of a reunited family are shattered, when she must put aside her own crushed dreams and help her friend Anush as she embarks into motherhood.”
Both Nowhere and It Takes a Village… are Armenian films.

Friday Afternoon: Industry estimates show that Andy Muschietti’s The Flash from Warner Bros’ DC is heading for a Friday around $26M, which will yield a 3-day around $64M, and 4-day north of $72M+ at 4,234 theaters. The day is still young, though one thing about last night was how male-heavy Flash was at 74%. To some degree these figures are not surprising as this is where the box office openings of deep universe superhero movies live when they’re starting off a franchise.

Bury the Bride, which recently debuted as a Tubi Original, is the second film from director Spider One and co-writer Krsy Fox after last year’s Allegoria. Spider One, for those not into the industrial metal scene, is the singer and only consistent member of the band Powerman 5000; and probably more important to his expansion into filmmaking, he’s Rob Zombie’s younger brother.
And Bury the Bride certainly opens like one of his brother’s films as credits playing over an old-timey love song give way to green-tinted footage of a woman hacking at someone or something just out of sight. And then to a group of women talking about the dick size of someone’s fiance while another tries, and loudly announces her failure,...

Despite the tragic death of co-founder Trugoy the Dove in February, it doesn’t look like the surviving members of De La Soul will be calling it quits anytime soon. Speaking on a new episode of Kyle Meredith With…, Maseo said that he and bandmate Posdnuos are working on putting out new music, and their highly-anticipated album Aoi 3 is “definitely happening.”
Aoi 3 would complete the trilogy De La Soul started in 2000 with Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump and its 2001 successor Aoi: Bionix. “Aoi 3 is definitely going to to take precedent,” Maseo said when asked about De La Soul’s upcoming plans. “It’s going to be the very next thing. Selena Gomez is getting candid about her biggest regrets since starring as Alex Russo on Wizards of Waverly Place, the Disney Channel show that kick-started her career.
On Monday’s episode of the Wizards of Waverly Pod with Jennifer Stone and David DeLuise, the singer said her biggest mistake so far was “not staying in touch” with her co-stars from the series.
“I felt ashamed of the decisions that I made,” the Only Murders in the Building actress explained. “I didn’t want you guys to see me in the state that I was in because a, you would have told me the truth which terrifies me, and b, I didn’t want to let you down.”
Gomez starred alongside Stone (Harper Finkle), DeLuise (Jerry Russo), David Henrie (Justin Russo), Jake T. Austin (Max Russo), and Maria Canals-Barrera (Theresa Russo) in the hit show from 2007 to 2012.

When cabdriver Long (Hiep Tran Nghia) reluctantly sets out to pick up a fare near the start of The Accidental Getaway Driver, he has no way of knowing where the journey might take him. Even those of us in the audience, well aware of the title, might find it difficult to guess. Because although the film starts as the gritty crime thriller suggested by its core premise, it pivots, unexpectedly but effectively, into something much more tender.
From the minute we meet Long, it’s obvious what kind of existence he’s leading. He’s first seen alone in a shabby apartment, listening to an old CD so banged-up it hardly plays anymore. His neighbors can be seen and heard playing chess outside his window, but this elderly, worn-down soul seems to have no place among them. When he’s called for a job late at night, he grumbles but finally gives in.

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of film critics two questions and publishes the results on Monday.
Ethan Hawke is having one hell of a year, and on both sides of the camera. After starting the summer with a profoundly moving turn in Paul Schrader’s “First Reformed,” he’s ending it with a pivotal role in Jesse Peretz’s romantic comedy, “Juliet, Naked.” And as if that weren’t enough, the guy also wrote and directed a musical biopic about the late country-western legend, Blaze Foley, which is just beginning to expand across the country.
As a tribute to Hawke’s long and restless career, this week’s survey asked critics to pick their favorite of his performances to date.

It’s been five years since the latest season of “Arrested Development.” That means it’s been roughly 1,829 straight days of “Getaway” resting comfortably in the subconscious of the show’s fans.
As composer and songwriter David Schwartz told IndieWire, he’s well aware that some of his music might just be lodged in your brain right now.
“It gets stuck in there. A lot of people get angry at me about that, an ‘I have your music stuck in my head’ kind of comment. They’re not really angry, but I hear that a lot in the ‘Arrested’ offices, which is nice,” Schwartz said. “Somehow I guess I’m more successful at clearing it out than not. It’s sort of requirement to start the next piece. And there’s always another piece to write, you know?”

Jeremy Rush’s Wheelman is a “Dad Movie” in the best way; the kind of no bullshit engine-rever that you flip on every Father’s Day during [insert random cable station]’s “All Poppas, All Action” marathon (sounds like a real thing). That might not read like a glowing endorsement, but truly – especially for a filmmaker’s debut – this car-centric thriller speeds into double-crossing criminal territory with hardened poise. Drawing cues from Courtney Solomon’s Getaway, it’s all about the thrill of the chase, burning of rubber and chaos of the moment – ambitiously told from a driver’s perspective.

Frank Grillo can currently be seen kicking Cap's ass on the big screen as Crossbones in Captain America: Civil War, but soon he'll be taking his talents to the small screen. Netflix has acquired the rights to an action film called The Wheelman, in which Grillo will star. He's also making his producing debut here alongside Joe Carnahan (The Grey).
Writer/director Jeremy Rush is making his feature directorial debut (and his feature-length screenwriting debut) with this film, which has the following synopsis:
The wheelman is Grillo – a getaway driver thrust into a high stakes race-to-survive after a bank robbery goes terribly wrong. With a car full of money and his family on the line, the clock is ticking to figure out who double-crossed him, and the only person he can trust…his fourteen-year-old daughter. All reasons to think fast, and drive faster.

But he’s also prone to making the occasional dud too, often starring in painfully mediocre films – such as recent endeavours Getaway or The Woman

We have the highlights of what's coming and going from HBO Now and HBO Go in January 2020.
A new year will eventually mean a new HBO with the release of HBO Max. But for now HBO Now and HBO Go continue on and are putting their best foot forward with the HBO new releases for January 2020.
Comedy is the name of the game for the HBO originals in January 2020. Larry David returns as Curb Your Enthusiasm season 10 premieres on January 19. Veep creator Armando Iannucci takes his satirical ways to space with Avenue 5 the same night. The New Pope is...sort of a comedy and arrives on January 13. The Stephen King series The Outsider is very much not a comedy but it will come to HBO on January 12 all the same.
The list of movies coming to HBO in January 2020 are surprisingly action-packed as well. John Wick...
