Michael Constantine, who previously portrayed the family's patriarch Gus Portokalos, sadly passed away in 2021. He gave the movie his blessing before his passing. He told writer and director Nia Vardalos he wouldn't be able to join them for the third film and his wish was that they went on. "I wrote the screenplay to reflect Michael's decision and will always treasure his last messages to me, hoping we were filming soon," she said.
Michael Constantine, Bruce Gray, and Constantine Vardalos all passed away after My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2. This film is dedicated to them.
Elias Kacavis (Aristotle) wears a shirt that says "The Second City Chicago". Nia Vardalos was a member of The Second City comedy group at the beginning of her career.
