Overall, the premiere share for the MTV original was up 63% compared to last season, meaning that 6.6% of all households who were watching TV that night tuned in to watch “The Challenge” this season versus the 4.06% from last season’s premiere episode. “Battle of the Eras” was also the highest-rated season premiere for the franchise in three years, back when Season 37 debuted in 2021.

Ratings for the Season 40 premiere versus last season’s were up 20%. “Battle of the Eras” saw a 0.81 in ratings as opposed to the 0.675 the series saw last season. This marks the biggest season-to-season premiere growth when it comes to ratings in six years.

The 40th season of “The Challenge” is a big one for fans.

According to The Challenge’s Ryan Kehoe, production forced him to follow a specific rule in Season 40’s opening daily challenge that one of his castmates didn’t have to follow.

The first event of MTV’s Battle of the Eras season featured all 40 cast members attempting to build puzzles resembling the number 40 and then retrieve 10 light sticks from the water.

To get those light sticks, they had to grab a round boat, paddle out to obtain their specific colored lights, and bring them back to shore.

Viewers saw Laurel Stucky and Cara Maria Sorbello from the Era 2 team complete the event ahead of all cast members.

Fans of The Challenge: All Stars spinoff shows will likely see a major change in the cast for Season 5, and for some fans, it may not be a welcome change.

Season 4 of the popular spinoff is currently airing on Paramount+ and features a cast of MTV OGs from Fresh Meat, Road Rules, and Real World.

The latest cast includes former Challenge winners Brad Fiorenza, Cara Maria Sorbello, Laurel Stucky, and Rachel Robinson.

Other All Stars 4 cast members, including Nicole Zanatta, Tony Raines, Leroy Garrett, and Kam Williams, have yet to win MTV’s competition series.

Based on recent rumors from a generally reliable spoiler account, viewers will see a different group of cast members, including non-mtv OGs, in Season 5.

Many fans of the Og format might dislike the spinoff’s cast update, and several former All Stars cast members have already reacted.

The spinoff of MTV’s competition series brings back former stars from The Real World, Road Rules, Fresh Meat, and even Are You The One? to battle for cash prizes.

The Challenge: Home Turf will present the behind-the-scenes details and background stories of all-time greats, including Johnny Bananas, Ct Tamburello, and Cara Maria Sorbello.

Many of the show’s top stars got their starts on MTV but had different paths to reality TV and, ultimately, to their success on The Challenge.

While Ct and Bananas started on the no-longer-running Real World, Cara Maria arrived during a Fresh Meat season of The Challenge.

Succession creator Jesse Armstrong has talked up the benefits of writers rooms for shows of “scale and length” as he threw his support behind the ongoing writers strike.

Armstrong was in conversation with journalist Marina Hyde on the final day of the Edinburgh TV Festival on Friday in the UK, and offered his analysis of writers rooms, which is one of the key sticking points for the AMPTP and WGA negotiations in the U.S.

“If budgets are available and we can get supported, they’re a great way to run some shows of scale and length, so I’m very supportive of the strike,” he said, adding that residuals and AI were issues the WGA was right to be concerned over.

“It’s not like a training program when my fellow writers are on set with me. It’s to make the show better,” he added.
