In interviews, Benjamin Ree has stated that the film was completed without initial permission from Blizzard, the owners of World of Warcraft. This was a big risk, but necessary to ensure the film's independent status. When the film was completed, the production crew contacted Blizzard and travelled to California to show them the film. After the screening, several of the bosses of the company were crying and granted the necessary rights.
All the voiceovers in the film are provided by actors with disabilities.
Benjamin Ree was inspired to create this documentary after reading a NRK feature article about Mats from 2019. The article went viral and became the most read article in the history of NRK.no.
Mats Steen is the grandchild of famous Norwegian politician Reiulf Steen. Steen is one of the main political figures portrayed in the fictionalized TV-series Makta (2023).
The entire 3D animated sequence was created by a single animator. When Benjamin Ree searched for animators on YouTube, he came across what he thought was a small animation studio based in Stockholm. However, as they began discussing a potential collaboration, he discovered that it was actually the work of one person-Rasmus Tukia-who was creating these videos in his spare time while juggling work and studies.
