Narco Sub is one of those projects that just floats in the depths of development for years while filmmakers come and go. Originally targeted for Tony Scott, it now appears to be surfacing with Game Of Thrones veteran Brian Kirk directing and Liam Neeson wanted for the lead. The thriller, which has a script by David Guggenheim, finds a disgraced American naval officer (Neeson, if he signs) forced to pilot a submarine loaded with cocaine past the Us Coast Guard’s watchful eye. And given what happened the last time Neeson was aboard a cinematic sub in K-19: The Widowmaker, does anyone expect this mission to go well?Kirk, whose only film-directing gig so far was indie drama Middletown, nevertheless has plenty of TV experience in addition to Thrones. He’s worked on the likes of Dexter, Great Expectations, Luther, and Boardwalk Empire. He’s taking over a project that,...

"The Casual Vacancy," the mini-series based on J.K. Rowling's adult mystery, will land Stateside on HBO in April. The three-part show will premiere on BBC One on February 15.
In the meantime, there's a little teaser trailer to introduce us to the quaint British town of Pagford. It all looks veddy proper and jolly indeed, but naturally there are all sorts of grown-up, non-wizard-y secrets lurking just below the surface. However, it probably doesn't help that Dumbledore is part of the ensemble cast. Just saying. It also stars Rory Kinnear, Emily Bevan, Julia McKenzie, Keeley Hawes, Monica Dolan, and Abigail Lawrie. The adaptation was written by Sarah Phelps, who also penned scripts for "Great Expectations," "Camelot," and "EastEnders."
"The Casual Vacancy" was J.K. Rowling's first novel outside of the "Harry Potter" series. Her second, "The Cuckoo's Calling," was released under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, although soon enough the author's real identity was revealed.

Utopia’s series 2 opener is a surprising, bold, strikingly handsome hour of television. Here’s Louisa’s review…
Review
This review contains spoilers. Our spoiler-free review is here.
“We’ve got a very odd first episode,” Utopia creator Dennis Kelly said last year about series two, “people are either going to really like it or really say ‘what the fuck did you do that for?’”.
You won’t hear that last question from us, not only because there’s a rude word in it, but also because the opening episode is superb and Kelly’s reasons for going back in time couldn’t be clearer. Documenting the beginnings of Janus, establishing the brutal scope of The Network’s power, and fattening up the emotional lives of Jessica, Arby and Milner gives Utopia series two an unshakeable foundation. Kelly’s “very odd first episode”, it turns out, is nothing short of a masterstroke.

J.K. Rowling's magic is headed to TV. HBO and the BBC have teamed up to produce the "Harry Potter" author's first novel aimed at adults, "The Casual Vacancy," as a three-hour miniseries. Sarah Phelps, a veteran of the BBC who's written "EastEnders" and "Great Expectations," adapted the novel and Jonny Campbell ("In the Flesh") is attached to direct. Rowling will serve as executive producer along with Paul Trijbits ("Saving Mr. Banks"), Rick Senat, and her partner at Bronte Film and Television, Neil Blair. Ruth Kenley-Letts ("The Hour") will produce. Published by Little, Brown Book Group in 2012, "The Casual Vacancy" is a small town political drama set in a suburban town called Pagford. After the death of a parish councillor, an open seat on the council creates turmoil as citizens compete to fill the seat. Richard Curtis's latest and very possibly last Brit-com stars Domhnall Gleeson as a young man, Tim, whose 21st birthday takes an unexpected turn for the futuristic. His father (Bill Nighy) reveals that all the men in their family have the power to travel in time, which ends up having a powerful impact on Tim's burgeoning relationship with Mary (Rachel McAdams).
The film is available to watch online now without a subscription, thanks to blinkbox.
Here are six reasons for you to stop whatever you're doing and watch About Time as soon as possible:
1. Domhnall Gleeson is the new Hugh Grant
Only in the sense that he channels roughly the same blend of leading man charm and terribly British awkwardness that Grant became famous for in Curtis's Four Weddings and a Funeral and Notting Hill. He's even got the floppy hair.
2. It's not your average rom-com
Did we mention the part about time travel?...

Call it “lowered expectations” or a “great mistake” or just answer that titular question with a big “it already happened, and just last month” – but yes, Mike Newell, Helena Bonham Carter, and Ralph Fiennes made a movie and none of you bothered to see it. That’s perhaps a bit hyperbolic as some people saw it, but the odds that you, the one reading this right now, didn’t see it are exceedingly high. And no, I’m not getting high and mighty on this one – even I didn’t see the film, and that’s entirely the point here. It was called (or, well, still is called, I guess) Great Expectations, and no one cared to see it when it finally hit the American box office in November. Guess the high schoolers haven’t hit that part of their syllabus yet. Earlier this year, I examined whether or not the modern box office (or, at...

Appropriately enough for this time of year, Acorn Media’s latest batch of DVD releases includes The Fall. It’s a Belfast based psychological crime drama in which Dsi Stella Gibson attempts to hunt down a sadistic serial killer who seems to delight in deviousness. Somewhat unusually for a crime drama, the killer is identified fairly early on as Paul Spector. Thereafter, Spector and Gibson become embroiled in a game of cat and mouse that lasts through five suspensful episodes. The relationship between Spector and Gibson is similar to the one involving Hannibal Lector and Clarice except for the fact that Lector was banged up while Spector is on the loose.
X-Files actress Gillian Anderson takes on the role of Gibson and she seems quite at home on British TV these days having enjoyed success in recent hits such as Great Expectations. Her nemesis is the rather less...

The BBC has commissioned more than 2,500 hours of programming that will span four years to mark the centenary of World War I. As part of the ambitious undertaking Rupert Murdoch will be interviewed about his father’s role as the whistle-blower who told the world the truth about the botched Gallipoli campaign in Turkey. The season kicks off in early 2014 and will run through 2018 on BBC TV, Radio and Online and across international, national and local services. At MipTV in April, BBC controller Ben Stephenson foreshadowed some of the plans when he announced five-part half-hour series The Great War from Life On Mars’ Tony Jordan. The series is now titled The Passing-Bells and will be stripped over one week. Other highlights include drama The Ark from Sarah Phelps (Great Expectations) and starring Oona Chaplin, Hermione Norris and Kerry Fox as a dedicated team of medics; factual drama 37 Days about the...

Rose Leslie, Ian McDiarmid and more have joined the cast of Dennis Kelly's Utopia for its second series...
Wonderful things are afoot. Not only is BBC Three's In the Flesh currently filming its second series, but Channel 4's Utopia has also set to work on the first block of episodes for series two.
Dennis Kelly's unsettling conspiracy drama is returning next year with six new fifty-minute episodes, including - in Kelly's own words - "a very odd" series opener, "which people are either going to really like or really say ‘what the fuck did you do that for?’ and I’ve got no idea what the reaction’s going to be".
Director Marc Munden, who was responsible for establishing Utopia's impressive style in series one, is back to head up the first three episodes of series two.

Douglas Booth landed on the radar thanks to his impressive turns as Boy George in Worried About the Boy and Pip in Great Expectations, but this week he heads to the big screen to play Romeo in the Julian Fellowes-scripted Romeo and Juliet.
Digital Spy sat down with the fast-rising star to discuss working with Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld and the pressures of following in the footsteps of Leonardo DiCaprio.
"You have to throw that baggage out the window at the beginning," Booth said in reference to the previous actors who have portrayed William Shakespeare's doomed Montague.
"You can't think about the other people that've played it. Me and Hailee were closest in age to the play than has ever been done on screen before - she was 15 and I was 19.

Believe it.
Three months after celebrating their sci-fi classic’s 20th anniversary at Comic-Con, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are reuniting once again.
This time, the pair that brought Mulder and Scully to life will appear together at New York City’s Paley Center, where they’ll discuss “the iconic sci-fi series that largely defined the paranoid thriller for the nineties, and whose influence can still be felt in supernatural dramas airing today,” according to the event’s official description.
Those words echo something creator Chris Carter said at the anniversary panel this summer: “The suspicion and conspiracy theories are so much more rampant today.

Cast as Special Agent Scully at 24, it is unsurprising that Gillian Anderson left for London at the end of the decade long X-Files series. In the 10 years that followed, Anderson shunned Hollywood and reinvented her career in the UK with low-key roles in film and television costume dramas such as Bleak House, The House of Mirth, The Crimson Petal and the White and Great Expectations.

What poster from yonder browser window breaks? Tis the new one for Carlo Carlei's adaptation of Romeo And Juliet and it's below for you to gaze upon. Gird your cod-pieced loins, fish out your Gsce English notes and pack your tissues for more star-crossed tragedy. While at first glance it seems to be about 174 per cent hair, somewhere under those perfectly tousled manes are its two young leads, Hailee Steinfeld and Douglas Booth. They're the youngest members of the Capulet and Montague houses who fall headlong into love and a dangerous no-man's land between their warring clans. With a script by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, this Romeo And Juliet (note the 'And' here: none of that fancy-dan Baz Luhrmann '+' business) has been shooting in Mantua - the city Romeo is banished to in the play, authenticity fans - with some extra soundstage work at Rome’s famous Cinecitta Studios.

BBC director general Tony Hall has promised to stop actors mumbling their lines for once and for all. Catch these lazily enunciating thespians while you still can
It is every British TV viewer's inalienable right to watch their favourite programmes while leaning in closer and closer to the screen while screwing their faces up, but perhaps not for much longer. BBC director general Tony Hall has vowed to put an end to actors who insist on mumbling incomprehensibly throughout their scenes. With an entire species under threat of extinction, all we can really do is celebrate these lazily enunciating thespians while we still can. Here, then, are the five greatest TV mumblers of the modern age. We may never see their kind again.

Sansa on "Game of Thrones" has been on quite the roller coaster throughout Season 3 and Izzy Meikle-Small, who lost the role to the HBO show's star Sophie Turner, doesn't regret missing out on the wild ride.
“I got to the final two to play Lady Sansa Sark," 17-year-old East Sussex-born Meikle-Small told The Telegraph recently at London screening of "The Big Wedding." "I was a bit sad, because the show’s massive, but I’m not that unhappy, because they all show a lot of flesh, don’t they? I don’t think my parents would be happy.”
Turner, who is also 17, hasn't had to show any skin yet -- Sansa avoided consummating her marriage to Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) earlier in the show's current third season.
Check out Meikle-Small and Turner as Sansa on "Game Of Thrones" side-by-side below:

It's a tale as old as time, but the newest version of William Shakespeare's “Romeo and Juliet” comes with a bit of “Downton Abbey” and “Gossip Girl” flavor. The Julian Fellowes-penned script sticks closely to the classic -- no gunfights and drugs a la the 1996 adaptation starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. The title roles are played by Douglas Booth (“Great Expectations”) and Hailee Steinfeld (“True Grit"). A new trailer features “Gossip Girl” star Ed Westwick as the hot-headed Tybalt of the Capulet family, who taunts Romeo, “Come settle with me, boy!” (Actually feels like something Chuck Bass might've said on “Gossip Girl.”) He's joined by big names including Damian Lewis as Lord Capulet, Paul Giamatti as Friar Laurence, and Stellan Skarsgard as the Prince of Verona. It's been quite a while since there was a big, classic adaptation of “Romeo and Juliet.” But unlike Franco Zeffirelli's 1968 version,...

Before there was an imprisoned Hannibal "The Cannibal" Lecter in the Thomas Harris novels "Red Dragon" and "The Silence of the Lambs" and the feature films made from them, Lecter was at loose in the world, working as a psychiatrist and occasionally eating his own murder victims.
On Thursday, April 4, NBC premieres "Hannibal," a crime thriller series that brings the Hannibal Lecter character into today's world -- but the events still take place prior to his imprisonment -- and pairs him with his "Red Dragon" nemesis, FBI profiler Will Graham.
As reimagined by writer/producer Bryan Fuller ("Pushing Daisies"), Graham, played by British actor Hugh Dancy ("Elizabeth I"), is on the hunt for a serial killer. Even though he has the ability to find his way into the psyches of the criminals he's chasing, this particular quarry proves too complex even for him.
So Graham calls on the expertise of respected psychiatrist Dr.

Day 2 of Emerald City Comicon quickly arrived. Most of the day and early afternoon I spent trolling the show floor, wandering in circles, not bothering with maps or directions, and just going with the flow, bumping into people, apologizing, walking in a daze at the signs, the posters, the art, the costumes, the creators and the freebies (my favorite was a Buffy bracelet from Dark Horse Comics with the quote “I just want you to be strong.”).
Saturday is always the best day of the con (hailed as the best people watching day by many I talked to). The most jam-packed, the most costumes, the most panels, and the most time. Again, I was just in awe of the creativity of these fans, and the sheer number of people in tight clothes that shouldn’t astounded. I opted not to dress up, lest I sacrifice my everlasting professionalism,...
