Storyline
Essentially an adaptation of Jeffery Archer's famous novel ''Kane and Abel'', Viraf Pheroz Patel & Rahul Bagga stars as Aditya Raj Merchant, heir of multi-millionaire Merchant Industries and Kabir Khan, Misfortuned Poor guy-turned-Nawab International owner respectively. Both share a strange Karmic Bond imposed by destiny however when their life cross path, it creates a war of revenge, Power and Prestige which eventually becomes the sole reason of their existence.
Kismat works enormously with a flourishing story which is inherently honest and straight-forward. It has clear message that Not only the poor but also the rich people too confronts discomfort in their lifestyle which results in turbulence in gifted relations. It introduces new characters in the middle of plot every episode which forms all together into a compelling drama. You get to see an autocratic grandmother, dotting parents, Dismayed sister, Always-there-for-you friends forever, a father-figure sidekick, Infidelity afflicted wife, Sister who spend her life in Brothel reluctantly, Radiant-soft-hearted widow-turned-wife, A Casanova brother, An ISI agent Father. Ambitious daughter, Happy-go-lucky son. The relationship between the characters are established leisurely, It's seems to be a straight-out-of-life and succeeds in creating an emotional wallop.
Makers even borrow Masala ingredient like 3-idiots track where a father desires to forward his legacy to his son, who otherwise have his own ambition, doesn't see family business as his cup of tea & Romoe-Juliet track where both Rival families Kids get hitched giving a big blow to their respected father's ego, However, the love story doesn't end tragically.
Any flaws? Yes. The extra marriage affair portion seems out-of-place, and moves on laboringly which falls flat. Also some sequence tends to elicit sympathy like the first few episodes that were high on melodrama. Also what irked me is the portion revolving around Ruksaar's strategy where she uses her daughter as pawn to rule the Nawab internationals which is full of clichés and pale. This abundantly talented actress hams so badly and miscarries the role into a stereotypical vamp as if she has come out straight away from a mind-numbing glycerin manipulative serials. Keeping aside this hiccups, Kismat is refreshing outing and for this credit goes to Screenplay writer Vikram Kapadia & Director Naresh Malhotra for giving us a show full of heart and soul. They transforms an engaging novel into an engaging show without compromising with the basic story which is indeed a great and brave effort.
Kismat would have fall out flat if not had an soulful performances from the Cast. VIRAF PHEROZ PATEL & RAHUL BAGGA turns a winning card with a solid performance, completely sync to the most challenging characters. Rahul had enacted a serious role before in Powder However it's a tough task for Viraf who carved a niche as a chocolate boy as Shiv in Mahi way, so seeing him inculcating traits of the royal character's personality with varieties of emotions and body language too comes up as a dynamic surprise. I can't imagine any other actors playing these challenging role with aplomb like Viraf and Rahul. They are complimented effectively by KHALIDA KHAN & RASIKA DUGGAL respectively, adding more emotional depth to it. Khalida particularly shines in the scene where she discovers her Husband's sudden death. Instead of breaking down and violently crying, she remains silent expressing her grief of loosing her husband and at the same time happiness by seeing a holiday tickets which Aditya booked for her, Even Rasika Duggal isn't far behind, She was exceptional in a scene where she gets to know her husband's infidelity..She knows her husband cheated and killed her trust yet she forgives him just for her daughter sake. KIRENDEEP JOGI is remarkable as the dismayed sister Mrinalini Merchant and sheds the image of endearing and sexy goof in Rishta.com, She metamorphose from a emotionally frustrated into a self-secured lady with ease, She develops a chemistry with RUSHAD RANA which arouses tenderness. JACEQULINE GAREWAL may come across as a typical autocrat, still she is natural and provides some powerful moments, whereas SIDDHANTH KARNICK. in cameo & TANU VIDHAYARTHI looks the characters very well as loving parents of Adityaraj......Special mention should be given to SHIV SUBRAMANIAM for pitching into fine performance as Vishwanathan, Merchant's sidekick
Overall Kismat is enthusiastically different, disturbing, Melodramatic yet so colorful and vibrating show. If you have missed it then You Tube is always the solution. Strongly Recommended !!
