In a heartfelt tribute to her late mother, Kelly Preston, Ella Bleu Travolta has released her latest single, “Little Bird,” which reflects on her grief and memories.
The song is featured on her upcoming EP, Colors of Love. At 24, the only daughter of John Travolta and Kelly Preston shared in an interview with People magazine that the experience of creating the track helped her feel her mother’s presence.
“I definitely felt [Preston] watching over me,” Ella told People, adding, “I knew that she was really proud of this whole process and of me.”
Processing Grief Through Music
Ella explained that growing up in the public eye brought attention, especially when dealing with personal loss. “There’s definitely the natural support and global support that comes with that,” she said.

John Travolta’s daughter Ella Bleu Travolta paid tribute to her late mother Kelly Preston with a touching new song, “Little Bird.”
In the ballad, Ella sings about the weight of grief, wishing she could hear mom say, “My little bird, don’t you cry, hear my lullaby it’ll be alright.” The visuals accompanying the song feature a compilation of home videos giving a glimpse at the Travolta family’s joyful moments, including birthdays, plane rides, trips to Times Square’s since-shuttered Toys R Us and swims in their pool.
A day before releasing the track, Ella wrote on Instagram, “‘Little Bird’ is about a beautiful time in my life. I spent the last two years thinking about what I wanted this song to be, only for it to be written over night. This song is about the celebration of life.”

Update: The "Megalopolis" trailer was pulled by Lionsgate after it came to light that it included made-up quotes from critics. "Lionsgate is immediately recalling our trailer for 'Megalopolis,'" a Lionsgate spokesperson said in a statement provided to Variety. "We offer our sincere apologies to the critics involved and to Francis Ford Coppola and American Zoetrope for this inexcusable error in our vetting process. We screwed up. We are sorry." The rest of this article has been left as it was originally written.
Francis Ford Coppola may very well be our greatest living filmmaker, so the looming release of his first feature in 13 years would be a major cinematic event at any juncture in his career. That he is 85 years old and spent $120 million of his own money to finance it makes it a one-of-a-kind risk — one that, judging from the reviews out of last May's Cannes Film Festival,...

Mike Will Made-It is dropping his first solo album in seven years — and hitting reset. On Friday, the legendary rap producer released the single “high3r” featuring heavyweights Lil Wayne and Lil Yachty, off his upcoming LP, R3SET.
“Sometimes you just gotta hit the reset button,” Mike Will tells Rolling Stone of the LP. “R3SET to me doesn’t mean starting over, it means setting up to Release All New Songs Orchestrated by Me again.” (The capitalization in his quote are a reference to his debut album in 2014, Ransom.

One would be forgiven for not knowing it, but a new exorcism movie starring Oscar-winner Russell Crowe hit theaters this past weekend. No, we're not talking about last year's "The Pope's Exorcist." Rather, we are talking about a brand new film from Vertical Entertainment simply titled "The Exorcism" that was, more or less, dumped after sitting on the shelf for several years. Unfortunately, the film is a flop in the early going by most metrics. However, it now holds a record for the folks at Vertical, representing the company's biggest opening weekend ever, amazingly enough.
Director Joshua John Miller's "The Exorcism" opened to $2.4 million, coming at number seven on the charts behind John Krasinski's "If" ($2.7 million), a movie in its sixth weekend in theaters that is already on VOD. Not exactly a blockbuster. That said, the number was big enough to overtake 2018's "Gotti" ($1.7 million) to become Vertical's biggest opener.

When I first moved to New York in 2017, I made a work friend who quickly became a close friend. One of the many things we bonded over was a shared love of John Travolta's lesser known movies. More specifically, I was impressed at how much joy my new friend was able to derive from the actor's career. I'd be lying if I said that joy stemmed from a genuine appreciation of the man's work, but I think he harbored a strange kind of respect for Travolta, as if any man who could put out "Look Who's Talking Now" or "Gotti" and still maintain some sort of career was deserving of admiration. As such, we planned a massive Travolta marathon which we sadly never got around to.
But if we ever did get around to taking a journey through the dregs of Travolta's career, Rotten Tomatoes might be a decent guide.

Dan Wallin, the music scoring engineer who recorded such classic film scores as “Spartacus,” “Bullitt,” “The Wild Bunch” and “Out of Africa,” died early Wednesday in Hawaii. He was 97.
Twice Oscar-nominated for best sound (1970’s “Woodstock” and 1976’s “A Star Is Born”), he won a 2009 Emmy for sound mixing on the Academy Awards telecast and received two additional Emmy nominations in the sound mixing category.
But it was Wallin’s skill behind the console, recording and mixing musical scores for movies and TV, that won him legions of fans among nearly all of Hollywood’s top composers and ensured steady employment for more than half a century.
He recorded the music for an estimated 500 films, including those for “Bonnie and Clyde,” “Cool Hand Luke” and “Finian’s Rainbow” in the 1960s; “The Way We Were,” “Blazing Saddles,” “Nashville,” “King Kong” and “Saturday Night Fever” in the 1970s; “Somewhere in Time,” “The Right Stuff...

Arnold Schwarzenegger has accomplished a fair bit in his life. The man came over from Austria having served in the army, claimed the Mr. Olympia title a full seven times, then launched one of the most successful Hollywood careers in the history of the industry, before becoming governor of California and finding time to marry a Kennedy in the process. But surely what he's really concerned with are his Rotten Tomato scores.

It is possible that one day an excellent narrative feature in the vein of The Big Short, BlackBerry, Dumb Money or Margin Call will be made about MoviePass, a company built––and destroyed––by several larger-than-life figures. For now, we have Muta’Ali’s documentary MoviePass, MovieCrash, which provides a broad overview of the deal everyone knew was too good to be true: a company that, for about a year, was so obsessed with subscriber growth that they offered customers the chance to see one movie per day for only $9.95 month.
Inspired by a series of Business Insider articles, MoviePass, MovieCrash features interviews with the company’s founders Stacy Spikes and Hamet Watt along with other company––insiders including Mitch Lowe, the man who would ultimately take Spikes’ position. In a bit of good luck, Muta’Ali gets the interview with Lowe just weeks before he’s indicted on securities fraud alongside Ted Farnsworth,...

Heading into the 81st Golden Globe Awards, legendary performer Harrison Ford is eligible for two different small screen prizes – Best TV Drama Actor and Best TV Supporting Actor – thanks to his respective turns on the inaugural seasons of “1923” and “Shrinking.” These possible dual bids would come 22 years after he was named the 48th recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille career achievement award and make him a proper Golden Globe competitor for the first time since 1996. Given the fact that 33 other DeMille awardees will have preceded him in subsequently landing regular nominations, it only makes sense to analyze those instances to determine just how great his chances of victory at the 2024 ceremony really are.

One would be forgiven for having absolutely no idea that a new action/comedy starring Jon Cena and Alison Brie hit theaters this past weekend. "Freelance" did, indeed, arrive in more than 2,000 theaters and was straight-up buried by the horror sensation that is "Five Nights at Freddy's." It would be one thing for a movie to come in second -- or even third place -- against a blockbuster release like that. Unfortunately for those behind this film, however, it barely made it into the top 10.
Relativity Media's "Freelance" opened to just $2 million, coming in at number eight on the charts for the weekend, per The Numbers. It made less than "The Nightmare Before Christmas" ($2.1 million), which is in the second weekend of its 30th anniversary re-release, and little more than "Saw X" ($1.7 million), which has been in theaters for five weekends. Vampires are taking a wacky bite out of summer. In Season 5 of FX and Hulu’s “What We Do In The Shadows,” Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) looks for a vampire who can give him the transformation that Nandor the Relentless has kept from him. But it may not go as planned. The beloved comedy, which takes a mockumentary look at four vampires living in Staten Island, returns on July 14.
Check out the Season 5 trailer of “What We Do In the Shadows”:
Another highly anticipated return coming to Hulu in July is the latest season of long-running animated series “Futurama.” The show’s first four seasons aired on Fox from 1999 to 2003, it was then picked up by Comedy Central for three seasons from 2008 to 2013. Now, nearly a decade later, the Mike Judge-created series will return for the first half of the 20-episode Season 8 on July 24 with the original voice cast.

At the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, which kicks off Tuesday, six titles — not counting midnight screenings or the TV series The Idol — will screen “out of competition,” meaning with a big red carpet premiere and the heavy media coverage that accompanies one, but without eligibility for festival prizes.
They include fest opener Jeanne du Barry, starring Johnny Depp (following in the footsteps of star vehicles ranging from 2011’s The Beaver to 2018’s Gotti); fest closer Elemental, from Pixar (animated pics are almost never invited into competition); franchise flick Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (a 2008 Indiana Jones pic also screened out of competition, as have installments of Kill Bill, Matrix, Oceans, Star Wars and X-Men); and cineastes’ most highly anticipated title, Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon.
Among those, Killers is a unique case, in that fest director Thierry Fremaux revealed in April that it was — and remains — invited to screen in competition.

Can MoviePass give movie theaters an even bigger boost on the second go-around? The newly rejuvenated subscription-based program is attempting a slow-rolling comeback.
They recently nabbed additional seed funding from Animoca Brands, a Hong Kong-based game software, blockchain and venture capital company. The seed round also included Claritas Capital, Emerald Plus, Gaingels, Harlem Capital, Pko Vc and Sandhill Angels. More financing rounds are expected at the end of 2023 or in 2024.
“10 a month for unlimited movies at any participating theater was always doomed,” co-founder, former owner and now current CEO Stacy Spikes argued during a conversation with TheWrap.
Spikes, whose book “Black Founder: The Hidden Power of Being an Outsider” debuts on Jan. 24, stated that “unless you own the theaters, you need some kind of variable pricing. One thing I can tell you is that putting the price below a single ticket just wasn’t logical.”

The New York gangster—otherwise known as the Teflon Don, the Dapper Don—was a Caesar, an Emperor… a King. His flamboyant lifestyle and frequent public trials as the head of the Gambino crime family, which controlled New York’s largest organized-crime syndicates, made him not only a prominent figure in the 1980s and ’90s, but also one of the most well-known organized crime bosses in American history. Gotti’s rise from a loyal soldier to Boss of Bosses, and ultimately to his sentencing to life imprisonment after being betrayed by his underboss, Sammy Gravano, is legendary.
The story being packaged as a limited series will differ from past incarnations of Gotti...

John Travolta is honoring his late wife Kelly Preston on what would have been her 59th birthday. The 67-year-old actor took to Instagram on Oct. 13 and shared a throwback photo of the actress smiling and waving at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, where she was promoting their movie Gotti. "Happy Birthday Kelly," he captioned the picture. "We miss and love you very much." This isn't the first time Travolta has paid tribute to Preston on her birthday since her passing. Last year, he marked the occasion by sharing two side-by-side photos: one of the couple on their wedding day and one of his parents at their nuptials. "Happy Birthday hon!" he wrote at the time. "I found...

To clear things up right away, no, it’s not that “Gotti.” But the news is bizarre nonetheless, though perhaps welcome for fans of HBO‘s critically acclaimed 1996 mob movie “Gotti,” as a sequel has been announced with the mealy-mouthed title of “Gotti II: The Final Chapter, Facts Undisputed.” The Oscar-winning writer of, uh, “Green Book,” Nick Vallelonga, will be writing it.

It’s time for the punks to meet the godfathers. The creators of SopranosCon merged with MobMovieCon for a family celebration. From July 23 to July 25, Harrah’s Resort & Casino in Atlantic City will house the boardwalk’s biggest gangster gathering since Nucky Johnson hosted the mob’s Atlantic City Conference in 1929.
“Al Capone will not be coming though,” VirtualCons CEO Michael Mota tells Den of Geek. “Those were the mobsters. I would say this would be the biggest gathering of mobster wannabes.” The Sopranos fan convention has come a long way since it was dreamed up by three gangster movie aficionados from New York, Maryland, and Rhode Island. The 2019 SopranosCon drew thousands of fans from as far as The Netherlands and the United Kingdom to the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus. Travolta plays an isolated obsessive who tracks down his movie hero in this nasty drama, directed by former Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst
This marks yet another rung down on John Travolta’s ladder of career ignominy after his most recent flops, Gotti and Speed Kills. It’s a grotesque drama in which Travolta plays a disturbed fan. It would be risible if it weren’t so offensive, mean-spirited and, frankly, nasty. Sporting a pudding-bowl haircut, too-small bike helmet and deploying an overdone shuffling gait, Travolta stars as Moose, an isolated obsessive living on the fringes of Los Angeles’ celebrity culture. At night, he busks for a living on Hollywood Boulevard – in costume as a British bobby (complete with Dick Van Dyke-style accent). The aim is to get enough scratch to fund his collection of movie memorabilia, a good chunk of which is devoted to his hero, one-time C-list...

The critics, so far, have a unanimous verdict: “The Last Days of American Crime,” Netflix’s new sci-fi/heist mashup that features scenes of police brutality and other gratuitous violence, is one of the worst films… ever.
The movie, released on Netflix June 5, has a 0% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, which means none of the 26 critical reviews tabulated by the site were positive. Overall, the site assigned a 2.27 out of 10 rating for the film across reviewers.
“The Last Days of American Crime” joins only 42 other films (with at least 20 reviews) to receive the dubious distinction of getting a Tomatometer goose egg, including Netflix’s “The Ridiculous 6” from Adam Sandler, “Gotti” starring John Travolta, 1990’s “Problem Child,” “Staying Alive” (also starring Travolta) and “Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol.”
The consensus is that, with protests nationwide over the police killing of George Floyd, the timing of the movie’s release is a disaster.

That Bruce Willis grimace. It’s almost as much a trademark as his smirk. When the actor’s mouth tightens and his eyes squint in “Survive the Night,” you’d like to think it’s because his character is feeling the pain. Emotionally, Frank’s estranged from his son. After a run-in with the movie’s two baddies, the retired sheriff will be hurting physically, too.
Not long into the action, a grimace becomes the only appropriate response to this try-hard flick, directed by Matt Eskandari and written by Doug Wolfe, about what happens when two brothers on the lam violently enlist the surgical services of Frank’s son. Chad Michael Murray plays Rich, who’s in the process of rebuilding his life after a malpractice suit ended his burgeoning medical career. A great bad movie makes you ask, “What did I just see? And when can I see it again?” as opposed to a run-of-the-mill stinker, the kind you wish you’d never watched and will immediately forget that you did. The great bad movies inspire think-pieces, podcasts, watching parties and feverish cult adoration. The regular ones merely wallow in mediocrity. Here’s my alphabetical list of the greatest bad movies the 2010s had to offer:
“Collateral Beauty” (2016)
Will Smith is sad, and his best friends gaslight him by hiring actors to pretend to be Love, Time and Death, but we’re supposed to find their efforts — noble? Charming? None of this makes a lick of sense, but it’s all delivered with hilarious gravitas by the likes of Kate Winslet and Helen Mirren. Make sure to stick around for the shameless third-act twist, and a labored explanation of the title.

The headline of this article might sound like something straight out of a Mad Libs book, but it’s absolutely true. John Travolta is actively campaigning to win an Academy Award for his role in The Fanatic, a thriller that was directed and co-written by Limp Bizkit’s very own Fred Durst. Sometimes the truth really is stranger than fiction, eh?
The 65-year-old actor is currently running “for your consideration” ads in order to propel his name into the Oscar discussion. There were rumors that he was going to do this last year for his performance as the titular mobster in the poorly-received biopic Gotti, but now it’s actually happening.
The Academy probably won’t have to think long and hard about this one, though. The movie has been panned by critics and fans alike since its limited release earlier this year. The film currently holds an approval rating...

Chicago – John Travolta continues to surprise by challenging himself in offbeat roles. His latest is “The Fanatic,” which had its nationwide release on August 30th. To promote the film and greet admirers, Travolta stopped by the Wizard World Comic Con in Chicago, and Joe Arce of HollywoodChicago.com shot an Exclusive Photo.
“The Fanatic” was based on a true story that actually occurred to co-writer/director Fred Durst, the front man for the band Limp Bizkit. The topic is extreme fandom and stalking, and Travolta portrays Moose, an autistic man who worships horror film actor Hunter Dunbar (Devon Sawa). After finding out where his hero lives, Moose begins stalking him relentlessly, escalating into a dangerous situation for Dunbar. Durst based the story on a fan who pursued him during the height of Limp Bizkit’s popularity.

From the mind of Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst comes “The Fanatic,” a movie starring John Travolta that reviewers are having a whale of a time eviscerating. In terms of Rotten Tomatoes scores, it is just about on par with Travolta’s last starring vehicle, “Gotti.” Which obviously makes this yet another can’t-miss car crash from the Scientologist who recently shaved his head at the behest of Pitbull and mistook drag artist Jade Jolie for Taylor Swift at the MTV Video Music Awards.
In a zero-star review from RogerEbert.com, Brian Tallerico writes, “‘The Fanatic’ hates fans. It hates actors. It hates tourists, shop owners, and servants. It really, really hates autistic people. And it hates you. It’s a movie that thinks you’re an idiot, someone who won’t see through its shallow provocations, illogical behavior, and vile misanthropy.”

It turns out that it’s not just fans who John Travolta has a problem with; critics have been pretty hard on him and his latest film “The Fanatic” too.
Travolta is getting panned once again for starring in a horror-thriller from Limp Bizkit singer Fred Durst, which is an update on films like “The Fan” and “Misery.” Critics have called Durst’s character development “shallow” and Travolta’s performance as a man who may be borderline autistic everything from over-the-top to “cringe-worthy.”

As two former teen idols, both John Travolta and Devon Sawa know a thing or two about obsessive superfans. The two pair up in “The Fanatic,” a dramatic thriller about a middle-aged man whose obsession with a celebrity action star becomes dangerously intense. Travolta recently made waves with an unhinged performance as New York City mobster John Gotti in 2018’s “Gotti,” directed by “Entourage” star Kevin Connolly. Now he’s working with another unexpected director: former Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst.
Per the official synopsis: “Moose is a rabid movie fan who is obsessed with his favorite celebrity action hero, Hunter Dunbar (Devon Sawa). When he is cheated out of his opportunity to finally meet Hunter, Moose gets a little help from his friend Leah (Ana Golja), a well-connected paparazzi photographer, who knows how to find celebrity homes. Moose turns to stalking to get the celebrity interaction he feels he deserves,...

Director David M. Rosenthal’s reimagining of “Jacob’s Ladder,” the 1990 psychological thriller directed by Adrian Lyne and starring Tim Robbins, is finally readying for release, six years after the project was launched. Written by Jeff Buhler and Sarah Thorp, this new take on the story stars Michael Ealy, Jesse Williams, and Nicole Beharie as part of an all-black cast.
First announced in 2013 and finally shot in 2016, Ld Entertainment’s remake has remained mostly shrouded in secrecy. The production company’s stated goal was to produce more of an homage, rather than a copy of the original, contemporizing the story while remaining true to the issues it examines and questions raised.
