The film was inspired by the true-life stories of the main cast of lead actors and lead actresses.
None of the lead actors and actresses in the main cast had any prior acting experience. The film's Official website states: "REAL PEOPLE with no acting experience play the lead roles".
According to musician Stephen Pigram, the meaning of a "mad bastard" is that it is the "name for the one who is dragging the net in the deep end where all the crocodiles are. They are brave to the point of being mad."
