Paul Walker enjoyed a lengthy career in Hollywood that carried him through various roles in several unique movies before his unfortunate death in 2013 at just 40 years old. Fans likely remember him best as Brian O'Conner in the "Fast and Furious" franchise, but the talented and handsome actor also appeared in critical hits such as "Pleasantville," "Joy Ride," and Clint Eastwood's "Flags of Our Fathers," and served as executive producer on the films "Vehicle 19," "Hours," and "Pawn Shop Chronicles." He even enjoyed a guest spot on National Geographic's "Expedition Great White" in 2009.
In his youth, Walker popped up in a variety of high-profile TV shows, among them "Highway to Heaven," "Charles in Charge," "Who's the Boss," and "Touched by an Angel," before making the leap to schlocky B-movie horror films such as "Tammy and the Rex," opposite Denise Richards, in which his character's brain somehow lands inside a Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Quentin Tarantino revealed during his appearance on “The Joe Rogan Experience” this week that his working relationship with Harvey Weinstein got off to a rocky start once Miramax became the distributor of his feature directorial debut “Reservoir Dogs.” Weinstein allegedly wanted to remove the film’s torture scene, which Tarantino admitted always led to walkouts during “Reservoir Dogs” film festival screenings. The scene, in which Mr. Blonde (Michael Madsen) tortures a police officer (Kark Baltz) by slashing his face and cutting his ear off (all set to Stealers Wheel’s “Stuck in the Middle with You”), is the film’s most famous sequence.
“His reasoning was, ‘Look, Quentin, this is a movie that anybody can watch. But with that torture scene, you’re gonna alienate women; they’re not gonna wanna see this. So you’re literally putting your own movie in a little box. But without that scene, anybody...

Netflix’s nostalgia-saturated sci-fi series “Stranger Things” thrilled fans and broke Netflix viewing records when it roared back in summer 2019 with a triumphant season three set in 1985.
Besides the SAG Award-winning ensemble that viewers came to know over the first two seasons, “Stranger Things” season three introduced new characters. One addition was Robin, played by relative newcomer Maya Hawke, one of Variety’s 2019 Actors to Watch. Robin became a foil for the perpetually pompadoured Steve (Joe Keery).
In the latest installment of Netflix’s Fysee TV series “Scene Stealers,” Hawke joined Emmy-winning casting director Carmen Cuba to talk about how it feels to fangirl a show and then land a role on it. The series, hosted by Variety’s Jenelle Riley, pairs the streaming service’s award contenders with the casting directors who helped them get their parts.

Composers Andy Grush and Taylor Stewart, aka The Newton Brothers, score Stx Entertainment’s supernatural horror thriller, The Bye Bye Man.

Directed by Stacy Title and written by Jonathan Penner, “The Bye Bye Man” follows the story of three college students move into an old, off-campus house. They quickly find themselves hunted by a supernatural entity called The Bye Bye Man who may be responsible for possessing various people and causing them to commit killing sprees throughout recent history. The students discover the origins of the Bye Bye Man and find that there is only one way to avoid his curse: don’t say or think his name, because once the Bye Bye Man gets inside your head, he takes control.

We have a list of the new Hulu movies and shows arriving in October 2018.
Happy Huluween!
Hulu is blessed to have a name that sounds roughly enough like "Hallow." That means it's basically honor-bound to bring the heat for Halloween. Thankfully for the October 2018 new releases, Hulu is bringing us the spookies that we need. The Blair Witch Project, The Others, and Child's Play all arrive this month. And if you're looking for some more wholesome creepies, The Nightmare Before Christmas should do. And if that weren't enough, Hulu is debuting its own horror show - anthology series Into the Dark.
For those shamefully unable to get into the Halloween spirit, Hulu is bringing in some other fun film options. Galaxy Quest, Music and Lyrics, and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective should help out with that.
Then of course, are the usual and typically deep TV offerings.

Since cancelling our cable subscription, at my house we are often at a loss for what to watch. We have every imaginable streaming service, but I feel like all of that variety makes it even harder to narrow down what we would like to watch. I’m often so bombarded with review copies of things that I seldom have a chance to watch what I “want” to watch in the first place, so wasting time choosing something on Netflix/Hulu/Hbogo/Amazon Instant is even more infuriating. Sometimes I wish somebody would just tell me what to watch. Please note that this is no kind of “Top” list. These movies are not ranked. This is just a list of 4 horror films currently on Netflix instant that I feel must be watched by fans of the genre. If you have any recommendations, please put them in the comments, or send me an email at Shawn@liberaldead.

Every year we all make these “Best of” lists, and every year I bitch and moan about having to assign arbitrary rankings to the movies that I enjoyed. Actually, scratch that. Every year I bitch and moan about it, and then cheat in some way, negating the ranking all together. 2013 is going to be no different. I think “ranking” your enjoyment of all of the films you consumed throughout a year is pretty useless. I don’t know about you, but I enjoy a plethora of different films for different reasons, and it is impossible for me to say that my enjoying of Film X is any better than my enjoyment of Film Y. So, instead, here is a multi-part list of films I saw in 2013 that I found to be exceptional, and worthy of your time. Some of these will have not been released yet, but they’re going to be here anyway,...

"It always pained me when critics and internet talkbackers slammed him as an actor because I knew the truth about the guy: he was fucking awesome in every way," "Running Scared" and "Pawn Shop Chronicles" director Wayne Kramer recently shared via Deadline about his friend and collaborator Paul Walker. "And he was just coming into his own as a strong leading man. I always told Paul that his most exciting years were going to be his 40s and 50s, and even beyond, as a masculine American tough guy in the vein of Steve McQueen, Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin. We talked about how Paul was going to be my Lee Marvin and we were hungry to make those kind of films that could show Paul in that light." While what might've come will never be known, his legacy will live on in the "Fast & Furious" franchise where his charisma and...

Paul Walker movies: Few worthwhile efforts away from the ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise (photo: Paul Walker in ‘Hours’) (See previous post: “Paul Walker Dead: Fast and Furious Actor Killed in Fiery Car Crash.”) Aside from the Fast and Furious franchise, Paul Walker was featured in about 15 movies since the turn of the century; most of those were little-seen releases that did nothing to expand his following beyond fans of slick, high-speed shenanigans, e.g., John Glenn’s thriller and straight-to-dvd release The Lazarus Project (2008), co-starring Piper Perabo; Wayne Kramer’s box office bomb Running Scared, with Vera Farmiga; John Stockwell’s mix of deep-sea adventure and crime thriller Into the Blue, with Jessica Alba and Josh Brolin; and another straight-to-dvd effort, Mukunda Michael Dewil’s poorly received thriller Vehicle 19 (2013). The Movie Gods haven’t been gentle to Wayne Kramer the past few years. After his critical darling The Cooler and a recent cult favorite Running Scared, Kramer ran into some trouble. He went through hell trying to keep Crossing Overtogether after Harvey Weinstein stripped it down to the “important” soft picture Kramer didn’t intend to make. More recently Kramer went through a tumultuous development with Bullet to the Head before exiting the project over creative differences. But he’s come back with a movie that is very much in his wheelhouse. Pawn Shop Chronicles is a dirty, highly-stylized crime picture which would play nicely as double-bill with Running Scared. We spoke with Kramer about the film, sex in American cinema and how to get a project greenlit on the spot. This felt very much like a “Wayne Kramer” movie. Thank you. It’s been a while since Running Scared, which...

Horror comedies work best when they take their concepts to extremes, never allowing the expected tropes to become a handicap. And it doesn.t take much beyond a giant mutated wasp attack to apply for the .high concept. title. Xyz Films and Rat Pack Filmproduction are working together to bring the genre-mashing Stung to audiences, and ScreenDaily announced the producers attracted the likes of Peter Stormare (Fargo), Matt O.Leary (Pawn Shop Chronicles), Lance Henriksen (Aliens) and Jessica Cook, in her film debut. Sure, this is about the cast you might expect for a movie about big killer insects, but don.t go setting it up against the kind of crap you might see on Syfy. At least not yet. The film will be the first film directed by Benni Diez, whose only other work in the industry besides a few short films has been as a visual effects supervisor...

Joe Lynch’s removal from Knights of Badassdom has been a very public affair in the online world. The movie that surprised Comic-Con audiences all those years ago that disappeared only to re-emerge went through its troubles, namely Lynch’s cut being butchered in an editing bay. Directors don’t always (or normally) have final cut, but what Lynch is going through is a matter of being locked out completely. The film was recently picked up for distribution, but, from the sound of it, we won’t be seeing Lynch’s version any time soon. We don’t hear about these behind-the-scenes issues that often, but another famous case was The Weinstein Company’s handling of 2009′s immigration drama Crossing Over. Despite featuring Harrison Ford, Ray Liotta, Alice Eve, Ashley Judd, and a few other familiar faces, the movie went unnoticed at the box office and critics didn’t much care for it. In...

Matt Dillon (l.) and Elijah Wood each pay a hefty price for what they want in Pawn Shop Chronicles.
A group of people may be pawning far more than they bargained for in the 2013 Southern-fried action-comedy film Pawn Shop Chronicles.
The film offers three tales that are all connected by items found in a Southern small-town pawn shop. In the first, a group of strung-out, white-supremacist meth heads (Contraband‘s Lukas Haas and Fast Five‘s Paul Walker) attempt to rob a meth lab; the second finds a newly remarried man (Matt Dillon, Armored) desperately searching for his kidnapped wife; and the third zeroes in on an Elvis impersonator (Brendan Fraser, Journey to the Center of the Earth) trying to make sense of the strange goings-on at the carnival where he struggles to find an audience who enjoys his act.

Tossed into theaters with little fanfare, Pawn Shop Chronicles was dreamed up as a “hillbilly Pulp Fiction” that saw three stories swing in and out of one pawn shop in rural somewhere-or-other. It’s probably still on a few screens, but it’s also getting a DVD/Blu-ray release on August 27th, and it looks like the kind of thing that might thrive on home video. Fred Durst was set to direct early on, but along the way he left and Wayne Kramer (Running Scared) took over with Paul Walker, Elijah Wood, Vincent D’onofrio, Matt Dillon, Norman Reedus, Thomas Jane, Lukas Haas and Brendan Fraser in an Elvis costume starring. That’s an intense cast (and there may even be women in it, too!). After watching the trailer, it’s hard to tell what the stories are all about beyond a bunch of insanity floating around near drugs and weaponry. It...

After his debut movie, “The Cooler,” starring William H. There’s an alternate reality somewhere, wherein “Pawn Shop Chronicles” is not released in theaters on July 12th, but instead is projected on the wall of a small, narrow hallway in Comic-Con, never to be heard from again. Somehow, a cast of capable, popular actors show up in what seems like the very last vestiges of early aughts direct-to-dvd Tarantino bite-offs, a movie not so much directed as punched into existence by director Wayne Kramer. Once considered a promising filmmaking voice (his “The Cooler” netted Alec Baldwin an Academy Award nomination once upon a time), Kramer is now reduced to essaying a flippant grotesquerie that carries the names of nineteen producers and executive producers, the primary one appears to be Fred Durst. “Pawn Shop Chronicles” concerns three stories of varying degrees of taste that center around a dusty, middle-of-nowhere bric-a-brac exchange in the Deep South. All stories are superficially linked through the non-involvement of Vincent.

The type of third-rate Quentin Tarantino crime saga that lost its luster in the late '90s, Pawn Shop Chronicles presents three intersecting vignettes about Southern-fried crazies, all of whom we meet in the pawn shop owned by Vincent D'Onofrio's laid-back loan artist. Director Wayne Kramer (Running Scared, Crossing Over) makes plain his cartoon-comedy intentions early and often via comic-book-panel-style title cards. The presiding atmosphere of over-the-top zaniness, however, is of a broad, banal sort involving little people, rampant nudity, and quasi-religious nonsense. There's plenty of wannabe-amusing banter about African-American Santas and why skinheads hate Jews to distract from the trio of tales about two dim-witted druggie thieves (Paul Walker and Kevin Ran...

Pawn Shop Chronicles should not be confused with Pawn Stars or Hardcore Pawn, two reality TV shows that delve into the hardscrabble lives of people who make their livelihoods wheeling and dealing others’ valuables. Pawn Shop Chronicles is a new movie from director Wayne Kramer (The Cooler) centered around a Southern pawn shop that attracts all sorts of extreme trouble. Paul Walker plays a white-supremacist meth-head with a confusing fondness for Jerry Springer, Brendan Fraser is the saddest Elvis impersonator, and Matt Dillon is a vengeful husband who tortures Elijah Wood with the gusto of Marathon Man and A Clockwork Orange,...

I think at one point director Wayne Kramer was supposed to be a pretty big-time director. He did “Running Scared” with Paul Walker after coming over from music videos in 2006, and followed that up with the ensemble drama “Crossing Over” in 2009. Neither of those movies really caught on, but he’s back with 2013′s “Pawn Shop Chronicles”, which despite its heavy and rather impressive looking ensemble cast, is only getting a limited theatrical showing along with a VOD release. I can kinda see why this movie isn’t going big, though. The trailer (below) looks funny as hell, but it’s probably not the kind of movie that can make back its money in theaters, at least not in today’s market. Here's a fun trailer for a great looking new film called Pawn Shop Chronicles that has a solid ensemble cast that includes Paul Walker, Norman Reedus, Vincent D’Onofrio, Lukas Haas, Thomas Jane, Elijah Wood, Matt Dillon, DJ Qualls, Brendan Fraser, Rachelle Lefevre, and Ashlee Simpson.
The comedy thriller was directed by Wayne Kramer, who previously worked with Walker on Running Scared. He also directed The Cooler and Crossing Over. He's made some good films, and this new one is sure to entertain. Here's the story breakdown:
The film revolves around a small town pawn shop that attracts big-time mayhem when a missing wedding ring leads to a wild goose chase. Watch the trailer to get a sneak peek of the action, which includes zombie ladies dressed in the American flag, an Elvis impersonator and a creepy clown robber whose weapon of choice is a bow and arrow.

With a rather strange assembly of talent that includes Paul Walker, Brendan Fraser, Elijah Wood, Matt Dillon, Vincent D'Onofrio, Chi McBride, Lukas Haas and "The Walking Dead" star Norman Reedus, this first trailer for the dark comedy Pawn Shop Chronicles is all over the place. There are three interconnected stories centered around a missing wedding ring which leads to a wild-goose chase involving meth addicts, skinheads and an Elvis impersonator (which Fraser makes the most entertaining part of the trailer).
