Today was the 2024 Q4 earnings call. During the call, Bob Iger boasted about Disney’s massive leaps this quarter and year. Much of this was bolstered by the success of “Inside Out 2” and “Deadpool & Wolverine.” The media, like Deadline, are praising Bob Iger and giving him all the credit for the turnaround. But was it him?
Deadline posted, “In executive commentary around the numbers this morning, Iger and CFO Hugh Johnson cited renewed creative strength, “a result of the extensive work we began two years ago to restore creativity to the center of the company.’ Iger rejoined the company as chief executive almost exactly two years ago, replacing his ousted, hand-picked successor Bob Chapek.”
The media credits Iger for these wins, except many of them were not under him; they were under Bob Chapek.
Let’s focus on the two big films that helped the company achieve this huge 39% jump.

Disney+ has launched a Top 10 list to let users know what content is most streamed on the platform.
The feature highlights popular movies and TV shows from the streamer. Subscribers will see different rankings depending on their subscription and parental control settings.

Nearly five years after Netflix first bowed its Top 10 lists worldwide, Disney+ is following suit.
Disney’s flagship streaming service on Wednesday launched “Top 10 Today,” a daily list showcasing popular movies and series on the platform. The goal — as it has been with Netflix, which pioneered the feature — is to drive engagement on Disney+ and give subscribers another way to find a new title to stream.
Disney+’s Top 10 Today list will vary for individual subscriber, depending on various factors. Those include the user profile’s content rating, subscription plan and location (the list is different for each country as title availability varies by market). At launch, the Disney+ Top 10 Today list will not be available to Junior Mode (i.e. kids) profiles.
Disney says the Disney+ Top 10 Today is not simply a ranking of the “most watched” titles in a given territory. Rather, the list “takes several factors into account,...

Expect the summer of 2025 to be a big one, with Disney announcing two huge live-action projects are coming that year!
Disney movies have been having their share of problems in the last year. There have been too many high-profile duds like Haunted Mansion, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and Wish. Even the MCU has faltered with The Marvels an outright bomb amid behind-the-scenes turmoil.
It’s not helped by the 2023 Hollywood strikes halting productions, and Disney has been forced to rearrange its slate. However, the success of Inside Out 2 has restored confidence in the company. They’ll be keeping that up with Moana 2 coming out at Thanksgiving and Mufasa for Christmas.
Disney had already rearranged their slate as Snow White, intended for this fall, will now premiere on March 21, 2025. Meanwhile, Pixar’s Elio, which was supposed to come this past June, was pushed an entire year to June 13.

The time has come for premiere week for CBS. It all starts tonight, Sunday Oct. 13.
This does mean our week night viewing is about to get more packed than the previous few weeks. Tonight is all about the premiere of Tracker, as well as Animation Domination, Sunday Night Football, and more.
Tracker, Animation Domination, and more
Fox currently has its Animation Domination listed as reruns on the official TV Guide website. That could change coming up to the date. It’s not always easy to track with Fox when it comes to its Sunday night lineup. However, we all love adult animation, right? This is something that can easily be rewatched over and over again. It’s why many shows are still on—they’re “excellent” for syndication.
If you’re looking for something new, though, you’ll want to turn to CBS. The Tracker season 2 premiere will air tonight at 8 p.

We first heard of plans for a Lando TV series in December 2020 during a Disney Investor Day. Lucasfilm surprised Star Wars fans who tuned in by revealing that Justin Simien would serve as showrunner on the project, with Donald Glover tapped to reprise his role as the iconic character after first playing him in 2018's Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Unfortunately, the show quickly got stuck in development hell, with Glover frequently left to dodge questions about whether he was going to reprise the role first made famous by Billy Dee Willaims.

Donald Glover hopes his ‘Star Wars’ Lando Calrissian movie will be "more fun" than previous entries in the franchise. The 40-year-old actor - who took over from Billy Dee Williams as the suave scoundrel in 2018’s ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ - is due to play the character again in the upcoming film and has teased what he envisions for the project. In an interview posted by WSJ. Style on YouTube, he said: "I just want it to be fun, like, as a ‘Star Wars’ fan myself, I think it's important that there just needs to be more fun being had."It’s very hard to have fun right now. It's tough because there are very serious things happening, and those are the only things that connect us, weirdly, so I get why things are serious, but, part of the human experience, I believe, is we have a responsibility to have enjoyment.

The plot of Will Helm is under wraps, but it will be premiering at Sitges and Screamfest next month. It will also show at the Knoxville Horror Film Fest before an anniversary screening of Wes Craven’s New Nightmare at the drive-in part of the festival.
From what we gather, there is an unofficial A Nightmare on Elm Street component in Will Helm and it acts as something of a meta combo piece for the Wes Craven classic.
Bobby Roe tells Bloody Disgusting, “We are hoping to follow in the footsteps of Smile, Night Swim and Lights Out.

Another day, another small-town mayor refusing to acknowledge that his town could be in grave danger. That's the gist of newly ordered-to-series Widow's Bay, an upcoming 10-episode horror-comedy set for Apple TV+.
1428 Elm has learned that the show will be created by Katie Dippold, best known for writing The Heat, starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. Filmmaker Hiro Murai (Atlanta) will direct the pilot episode.
Apple didn't share much else about Widow's Bay just yet, unfortunately, except that it will be produced in-house by Apple Studios and the series is set in a cursed New England town. As mentioned above, something supernatural starts to threaten town residents but the mayor refuses to believe anything is wrong. Sounds like maybe the mayor from Amity Island relocated.
Dippold is credited as the showrunner and creator of the new series, which she also executive produces. Murai will executive produce as well, alongside Carver Karaszewski and Claudia Shin.

The Top 5 Comedy Films Of 2024 ( Photo Credit – YouTube )
2024 was a great year for comedy movies, with multiple films, including Despicable Me 4, crossing the $500 Million mark. However, 2024 came in $1 billion lighter without a Barbie in their cards. 2023 was one of the best years for comedy movies, with hits like Barbie and The Super Mario Bros Movie leading the pack. Both films grossed over $1 billion.
With four months left before the end of the year, 2024 is coming up a bit short at the box office. However, things are looking up with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice hitting theaters in the next few days (September 6). Tim Burton’s horror comedy is projected to rake over $100 million in the opening domestic weekend.

Disney's beloved After Hours Event is returning to Walt Disney World in 2025. The special ticketed event is returning for select nights throughout 2025.
Each of the parks in Walt Disney World has different dates for the event. Magic Kingdom Park, for example, only takes place on select nights from January 6 to May 19, 2025. Disney's Hollywood Studios, meanwhile will take place on select nights from January 22 to September 3, 2025.
For Magic Kingdom, here are the confirmed After Hours Event dates for 2025:
January 6, 13, 20 and 27February 3, 10, 17 and 24March 3, 17, 24 and 31April 7 and 28May 5, 12 and 19Disney After Hours at Magic Kingdom park details
Disney After Hours gives those who attend three full hours in the park with limited crowds. Because it's a separate ticketed event — with prices that range from $175 to $185 per ticket — there are fewer guests in the park. This results in shorter wait times for some of the park's biggest attractions, which remain open during extended hours.

Exclusive: Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) is developing Nineteen Steps, a feature adaptation of her same-name debut novel for Netflix, sources tell Deadline.
Netflix declined comment. But we hear that Brown will produce under her Pcma banner, with an eye to star. Four-time Oscar nominee Anthony McCarten (The Theory of Everything) is set to adapt the screenplay. Jonathan Eirich will produce for Rideback, with Nick Reynolds exec producing for the company.
A New York Times and Sunday Times bestseller published by William Morrow in September 2023, Nineteen Steps is a WWII novel drawing on the experiences of Brown’s own grandmother. Written by Brown and Kathleen McGurl, the story follows Nellie Morris, an 18-year-old girl living in the East London neighborhood of Bethnal Green. Over the course of the book, Nellie navigates the challenges of wartime life, including the threat of bombings, rationing, and the emotional turmoil of being separated from loved ones,...

With less than a month to go before the 76th Emmy Awards, the telecast’s hosts are finally set. As expected, the father-son duo of Eugene Levy and Dan Levy will emcee this year’s Emmys, which take place on Sunday, Sept. 15, live on ABC.
The two made history in 2020 as the first father and son to win major awards in the same year, thanks to “Schitt’s Creek.” That year — in which winners appeared remotely, due to the Covid-19 pandemic — saw Eugene Levy win for outstanding comedy actor and Dan Levy win for supporting comedy actor. Dan Levy also picked up wins for writing and directing, while both won the outstanding comedy series Emmy as exec producers.
“For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theater was incentive enough,” the Levys said in a joint statement.

At this year’s D23, Disney’s “ultimate fan event” held near Disneyland every two years, the company that leads Hollywood in creating world-class entertainment from beloved characters and time-tested stories wasn’t on its usual solid footing.
While the presentations featuring Disney luminaries from Pixar’s Pete Docter to Avatar’s James Cameron were impressive, there was also a keen sensation of déjà-vu. It was like eating at the Cheesecake Factory – there’s a giant, phonebook-sized menu, but everything still ends up tasting the same.
D23 was chock-full of announcements that signaled a doubling down on tested IP (intellectual property). At the convention, everything old was new again… and again… and again.
The presentation suggested that Disney is clearly on the back foot and retreating to what it knows best. This year, “Inside Out 2” broke what some considered a slump for Pixar, earning $1.59 billion; so did “Deadpool & Wolverine” for Marvel Studios,...

Jamie Lee Curtis has always been legendary, but now it’s official: she was named a Disney Legend on Sunday during the D23 Expo.
Lindsay Lohan took the stage to queue up a montage of Curtis’ most memorable roles, telling the crowd, “I have been able to have the pleasure of working with Jamie Lee Curtis. And the magic of Jamie Lee Curtis is that she is timeless. Every character she plays is different, and she always brings something unique to the role. And I feel so blessed to have Jamie as a friend in my life, and I feel lucky to work with a woman that I admire so much.”
Jodie Foster surprised the crowd after Lohan’s introduction to further lionize Curtis, saying, “There are many things that my bestie Jamie and I have in common,” recalling their upbringing as young women in Hollywood.

Justin Simien is opening up about the grief he felt after Disney’s decision to scrap his Star Wars: Lando series.
The filmmaker recently told Collider that the project was shelved despite reaching a significant stage in the development process. “It was pretty developed,” Simien recalled. “Yeah, there was a Bible, there was concept art, there were scripts, but it just wasn’t meant to be.”
This took an emotional toll on the Haunted Mansion director: “For me, the answer is that you have to really face it. It is true grief. I’ve never had a child, I’ve never lost a child, but it’s what I imagine that pain might be like. You pour so much of your heart and soul into something, but ultimately, you don’t have control over whether it lives or dies, and it is a true grieving process.”
However, Simien shared that...

After failing to meet box office expectations with his 2023 reimagining of Disney’s “Haunted Mansion,” it seems things are starting to sour between writer/director Justin Simien and the House of Mouse. The filmmaker was set to helm a series for Disney+ centered around a young version of “Star Wars” favorite Lando Calrissian played by Donald Glover, but in a recent interview with Collider, Simien shared how despite a plethora of materials being produced, the studio chose to can the project.
“It was pretty developed,” Simien said. “Yeah, there was a Bible, there was concept art, there were scripts, but it just wasn’t meant to be.”
Despite the emotional toll of dropping the project, Simien told Collider that processing the loss and recognizing what he gained in the process allowed him to move forward with grace.
“For me, it has to be done pretty straight on like, ‘I am in grief.
