Saleh sabotages the Nissan Pathfinders engine to avoid Omar driving off without them by removing a spark plug. You can hear clearly that in fact its a diesel engine which does not use spark plugs.

Added note: While Pathfinders do come with diesel engines, this one clearly sounded to me like a standard internal combustion motor. When some of the characters switch to a Mercedes later in the movie, you can clearly hear the difference. I don't think this was a goof.
