The original script was written in January of 2001. Back then "S.O.L." was called "Wrong Place at the Wrong Time". Ken Gayton suggested the title "S.O.L." in 2009.
Michael Steen, who played Uncle Kevin, was needed for two shooting days (one weekend) and ended up quitting after the first day. The bulk of Uuncle Kevin's lines went to Ryan (Ken Gayton). It's also the reason why Uncle Kevin is nowhere to be seen for a good portion of the 3rd act.
S.O.L. won the "Viewers Choice" award at the 2011 Trail Dance Film Festival. It was the first "audience choice" award for Ken & Jason. They finished 2nd or 3rd several times at several other festivals.
Jason Schaver's "I'm a Screamer" shirt makes appearance in the film during the "sad montage" scene toward the end of the film. He wore it in his debut film "The Truth About Average Guys". The shirt was bought by a fan for $150 during a fund raiser.
The scene where Micahel (Adam Breske) takes Zach (Jason Schaver) out behind the cabin to shoot him was 100% improvised. Due to the layout of the location, they could not shoot it as written so Adam and Jason improv'd the scene.
