These days, I’m willing to compare Supernatural to The Simpsons insofar that I can’t imagine the television landscape without either. Really, the former has been going strong for most of my adult life, and I still remember curiously tuning in for the pilot episode when it originally aired during the fall of 2005.
Now, as we head into season 14, we can fondly look back on all the memories we’ve shared with Sam and Dean Winchester, be it their averting the Apocalypse on numerous occasions, or if it’s just an awesome animated crossover with Scooby-Doo.
Still, I’m reminded of what attracted myself and others to the series back in the day, and that was the strong influence felt by various urban legends and bits of cultural folklore. As someone who grew up on Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and Unsolved Mysteries, you can imagine why...

It seems to be a CW-tribute week of sorts on CBS tonight. Not only is Travis Wester (Ghostfacers’s Harry Spangler from Supernatural) on NCIS, but Cassidy Freeman (Tess Mercer of Smallville) returns to NCIS: New Orleans. Cassidy’s character, Eva Azarova, first appeared last year in a crossover event with NCIS as a “person of interest.” […]...

Buffy, Doctor Who, Star Trek and more have all devoted episodes to members of their supporting cast...
Over an extended run, some television shows give off the impression that all life in their universe revolves around a small number of characters, but if they run long enough, writers and producers will invariably have to look elsewhere every once in a whle. Maybe on another day to every other episode, when the forces of evil rally and all seems lost, the good guys are... otherwise occupied, leaving someone else to pick up the slack.
As a dramatic convention in pop culture, foregrounding minor characters dates at least as far back as Tom Stoppard's 1966 play Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, which takes place “in the wings” of Shakespeare's Hamlet as the two minor characters have little comprehension of the tragic events going on concurrently. But over the years, geek...

The road so far …
It wasn’t exactly easy for genre television in 2005. Well, it’s really never been easy for genre television ever in the history of television, but in 2005, a deluge of genre shows premiered and almost all of them had fallen prey to the swift axe of the television gods by the next year. Start by thinking about television now. It’s a fruitful time for horror and science fiction and fantasy. There are a multitude of genre shows, running the gamut from The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, to True Blood and The Vampire Diaries. They’re all massive hits.
Now, think of all of the shows that premiered around that time in 2005. There was Surface, and that was cancelled after ten episodes by NBC. Invasion, a well-regarded show written by Shaun Cassidy (who created one of my favorite shows, American Gothic) and that was cancelled...

Supernatural, Season 9, Episode 15: “#Thinman”
Written by Jenny Klein
Directed by Jeannot Szwarc
Airs Tuesdays at 9pm (Et) on The CW
Over the course of their time fighting supernatural entities, the Winchesters have crossed paths with many individuals, some of them multiple times. Much to the chagrin of the Winchesters, one group they have encountered over and over again are the Ghostfacers, a group of otherworldly activity chasers who have previously shown a somewhat tenuous grasp of the knowledge that the Winchesters are well-versed in. This week’s episode sees Sam and Dean cross paths with the Ghostfacers once again, in an enjoyable episode that draws on the parallels between the group and the brothers.
While the Ghostfacers as a group have been hit or miss in their history on the show, they have always been effective as a mirror image look at the lives of the Winchesters.

Sam and Dean are still in the midst of their brotherly spat, but the Winchesters weren’t the only dynamic duo having relationship troubles in this week’s episode of Supernatural. The other pair of embattled buddies? None other than the Ghostfacers, who made their reappearance this week after a five-season (!) absence.
As you might be able to guess, it wasn’t exactly a happy reunion between the brothers and “supernaturalists”/official pains in the rump Harry (Travis Wester) and Ed (A.J. Buckley). In fact, Ed and Harry were probably the last people Sam and Dean expected to encounter while...

The Ghostfacers try to stand up to the Winchesters in this sneak peek of "Supernatural" Episode 9.15, "#Thinman," but Dean's having none of it. Let's hope he had none of the food at that dirty diner they're visiting either!
"Supernatural" Episode 9.15 - "#Thinman" (airs 3/4/14, 9-10pm)
The Ghostfacers Return — A teenage girl (guest star Ali Webb) is killed, and the final selfie she took before the attack shows a ghostly figure in the background.
Looking for something to keep them busy, Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki) head to Washington to find the ghost.
While the two interview the girl’s mother, Betty (guest star Maria Marlow), they are surprised when she starts talking about cold spots and fritzing. When they ask her about bringing up paranormal signs, Betty replies that the “supernaturalists” who called earlier brought it up.
Enter Harry (guest star Travis Wester) and Ed (guest star A.J. Buckley), the famous supernaturalists.

Wonderland Sound and Vision’s Jeff Grosvenor has joined Rashida Jones & Will McCormack‘s production company as Evp overseeing development. The hire stems from the two-year pod deal Parks and Recreation co-star Jones and her writing partner, fellow actor-writer McCormack, signed with Warner Bros. Television in January to develop, write and produce comedy and drama projects for broadcast and cable. “Jeff is the perfect fit for us,” McCormack said. “He has a sharp eye for story and development. We are ecstatic he has joined our team to help bring our voice to TV.” The new gig keeps Grosvenor in the Wbtv fold as McG’s Wonderland Sound and Vision also was based there. Grosvenor joined the company in 2005. He was promoted to Manager of Television in 2007 and to VP Television in 2011. During his eight-year tenure at Wonderland, Grosvenor worked on such shows as Chuck, Human Target, Supernatural and Nikita. In addition to television,...

How did this all come about, and how did you get involved with it? Was it your idea being that you did the foreword to the book?

Supernatural 8×04: Bitten
Stars: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, Mark Sheppard, Osric Chau | Written by Eric Kripke, Robbie Thompson| Directed by Thomas J. Wright
**Spoilers Lie Beyond Here**
Found footage gets such a bad rap and I get why, I really do. It’s because there’s only so much that can really be done with a genre that is defined by literally catching images as they appear or have appeared I suppose. I personally love the genre because there are ways to inject some fresh blood into that particularly tapped vein if you catch my drift.
Supernatural has briefly done this before way back in season three with the episode, ‘Ghostfacers!’ Sam and Dean played second fiddle to the main events going on around them which was amateur ghost hunters investigating a pretty creepy house. The episode had it’s humerous moments like this one does, but was altogether a creepier experience.

Sam warns Dean to remember he started it. Dean: "bring it on baldy!" They talk about a local haunted house and girls dying there. The legend talks of them being strung up on rafters and some teens saw a dead girl in the cellar. When the police arrived there was no body.

When asked if this Saturday.s premier movie on Syfy has meaning for our everyday lives, Jewel Staite and A.J. Buckley say it.s just a fun, crazy escapist movie. Staite starred in "Mothman" for Syfy and was one of the cast in "Stargate: Atlantis." Many fans know her from her role as Kaylee Frye in Joss Whedon.s "Firefly." A.J. Buckley stars in "CSI: New York" and is known to science-fiction, fantasy and horror fans for his role as one of the Ghostfacers from "Supernatural." Jewel Staite (Firefly, Stargate: Atlantis) and A. J. Buckley (CSI: NY, Supernatural) spoke with the media earlier this week in support of their upcoming Syfy Original Movie Doomsday Prophecy. They were both an absolute treat to talk to, and clearly had a great time making the movie.
According to Syfy, “a book editor (Buckley) and an archeologist (Staite) hunt down a mysterious author of prophetic novels. When the writer is found dead, the editor obtains a device enabling him to see the future – an impending geological nightmare that will tear apart the planet.” Cool. Here’s a clip:
In answer to a question from PopCultureMadness.com, Jewel warned us that this wasn’t exactly a “message” movie.
Jewel Staite: This is a fun, crazy movie. It’s one of those sci-fi movies that you sit back on a Saturday night with your bowl of popcorn and you zone out and you have fun.

"Supernatural" doesn't return to The CW until Sept. 23, but we've got a fun mid-hiatus treat for all of you Castiel fans!
Last year, we loved the "Supernatural" spin-off web series "Ghostfacers," featuring our favorite fumbling ghost hunters Ed (A.J. Buckley) and Harry (Travis Wester). But we didn't get to see all of it.
In the middle of "Supernatural's" fifth season, series star Misha Collins approached Buckley and Wester about their hilarious characters, who he didn't have the opportunity to interact with on The CW show. "He came up to us and told us he wanted to be on our show," Buckley told FearNet. "We pitched an 'Interview With an Angel' piece to ['Supernatural' creator Eric Kripke, who loved it. We had a blast shooting it."
After "Supernatural" was picked up for Season 6, however, the "Facers" were asked to keep the segment under wraps. Until now!

Supernatural made the move to Comic-Con’s big room, Hall H, this year, and had no trouble filling it with excited fans. In fact, the extra space was needed for the shrieks that met Jensen Ackles when he introduced a clip from the third episode of the show’s upcoming seventh season, which he directed. “This is a little slice of life back into Sam’s past,” described Ackles before a clip reel set to Foreigner’s “Long, Long Way From Home.”

Warner Bros. had high hopes for original web series when it launched its own network back in 2008. TheWB.com came out with guns blazing, part of a re-launch of the defunct former TV channel TheWB, signing big productions from the likes of McG (Sorority Forever) and Gary Auerbach (Rich Girl, Poor Girl). Now there are just 10 web original series still available on TheWB.com, and all of them are mid-2010 releases or earlier. The summer 2010 release of a flurry of series like Downer’s Grove and Exposed was thought to be the return to original web series on the network, but turned out to be its final bow. This week’s email newsletter (below) from the network plugged full episodes of aging (and off-air) TV series like The O.C., One Tree Hill and Friends and movie trailers for the The Hangover Part II: Related News:‘Ghostfacers’ Pairs McG and...

If you're like us, you were probably a little bit wary when you heard about "Supernatural's" meta episode, "The French Mistake," in which Sam and Dean find themselves in an alternate universe where their names are Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. It's always a risk when a show decides to break down the fourth wall in such a dramatic fashion -- but now that we've seen the episode, we'd call it a risk worth taking!
"The French Mistake" is arguably the funniest episode "Supernatural" has ever had -- it made us laugh even more than the Ghostfacers episodes or "Changing Channels." There have been episodes that affectionately poked fun at the fans, like "The Real Ghostbusters" and "The Monster at the End of this Book." This episode flips the script, mercilessly teasing the people behind the show we so love -- namely Ackles, Padalecki, Misha Collins, and yes -- even head honchos Sera Gamble,...

The Winchesters have battled ghosts, demons, and even the apocalypse. But one battle they constantly have to wage is the right to return to our screens for another year. With Supernatural's sixth season in full swing, Sera Gamble has more than proven that she can handle the show with as much heart as Eric Kripke. While fans may not like everything she's thrown at us, we keep returning to watch the further adventures of our favorite brothers. And now is the time when our thoughts turn to wondering if a renewal will be on the horizon.
Show predictors have mainly been favorable on the possibilities of a seventh season, with none saying outright that a seventh season is out of the cards. TVByTheNumbers and SpoilerTV have both deemed Supernatural safe from cancellation. Over at Entertainment Weekly, they're taking a more guarded approach and not putting their eggs in either basket.

If you’ve ever brushed off "Supernatural" as just another teenybopper WB show with a couple of pretty boys, you’re seriously missing out on one of the most sharply written, balls-to-the-wall genre shows around. In fact, it’s long surpassed the quality of its forefathers – former TV greats like "The X-Files" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" – for several reasons: While those shows lost momentum over time, "Supernatural" has gotten consistently better with every season.
Sure, teenage girls love it for the eye candy (better this than Twilight!), but the show’s heart is aimed right at horror purists with its complex apocalyptic mythology, geek in-jokes and twisted black humor. And we’d be remiss to not mention the soundtrack, which assembles the greatest collection of classic rock and metal the world has ever known!
While Season Five closed the book perfectly, we at Dread Central can’t help but miss the Winchester boys.

Chicago – Last week we covered several of the more notable rookie programs of the just-passed TV year and their inaugural TV-on-dvd season sets. This week, we’re back with a few of the veterans of the field, three shows that have never become critical smashes but have all developed their own devoted followings for good reason.
ABC’s “Brothers and Sisters,” NBC’s “Chuck,” and The CW’s “Supernatural” have all recently had a complete season released on DVD in anticipation of their return to their respective networks in a few weeks. Like the programs themselves, the releases are a bit hit-and-miss but all probably more worthwhile than you think. Let us guide the way.
“Brothers and Sisters: The Complete Fourth Season”
DVD Rating: 3.5/5.0
Since people first started basking in the golden hue of their television, the family soap opera has been a regular part of the overall schedule.

It's become a Dread Central tradition to close out our Comic-Con work week with the "Supernatural" panel. Few sessions are as funny, informative, and entertaining year after year. And 2010 was no exception. All the tidbits and mini-spoilers Kripke and crew revealed can be found here, along with a description of the clip that was shown from Episode 4 of the upcoming Season 6, "Weekend at Bobby's", directed by Jensen Ackles.
Instead of making the audience wait until the end of the panel for the really good stuff, "Supernatural" always starts things off with video, in this case the aforesaid "Weekend at Bobby's" sneak peek, which Ackles introduced. Even though it's not the season opener, they shot it first to give him time for prep and so he can then return to straight acting throughout the rest of the episodes. Here's the description of a scene between Bobby Singer and the demon/angel Crowley,...

The CW's "Supernatural" has been a considerable presence at San Diego Comic-Con since 2007. In summer 2010, series stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles return for the first time since 2008. They'll be joined by co-stars Misha Collins and Jim Beaver, as well as executive producers Eric Kripke, Ben Edlund, and new showrunner Sera Gamble to discuss the upcoming Season 6.
Fans who attend the panel are sure to be in for a treat. In the past, the "Supernatural" presentation has featured the previous season's gag reel, a surprise invasion by the cast of the "Ghostfacers" web series spin-off, and in 2008, fans watched a sneak preview of the first few minutes of the Season 4 premiere.
There's no word yet on what Warner Bros has up their sleeves this year, but we'd expect some surprises.
"Supernatural" is currently filming Season 6 in Vancouver. The first episode, "Exile on Main Street," will premiere this fall in the series' new Friday at 9 p.
