The Imaginary is produced with hand-drawn animation.
Writer & Producer Yoshiaki Nishimura spent 2.5 years writing back stories of all of the main characters so that the animators & others would have a richer understanding of their motivations and behaviors.
In Amanda's bedroom there is an Ikea shark plushie called Blåhaj on her bed.
The library where all the Imaginaries gather is modeled after the central rotunda of the Stockholm City main library in Stockholm, Sweden.
It was originally scheduled to be released between June and August 2022, but it was postponed due to production delays.
