It’s no surprise this video went viral. It presents the truth on your face! This video demonstrates that the camera is just a tool, and the single most important component of a camera, is the 12 inches behind it (which is your brain). All filmmakers — watch this video!

It’s a lean month for new original content on HBO/Max. November will see the return of two scripted series in Julia and Rap Sh!t, both of which are debuting their respective second seasons, but this month’s fresh highlight is likely to be Bookie, a new comedy series from the partnership of The Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre, and Nick Bakay. The show tracks an LA bookie called Danny (Sebastian Maniscalco), whose business is in peril as California movies to legalize sports gambling.
Elsewhere in November, there quite a few interesting documentaries to keep an eye on, and two that jump out as “must watch”. The first is Albert Brooks: Defending My Life, which chronicles the aging comedian’s life and career. The second is the previously-released Little Richard: I Am Everything, which tries to peel back the whitewashed canon of Richard Penniman in a true...

We wrote a decent amount of articles about The Creator, which is a mega-budget sci-fi action movie that was shot with a prosumer camera, the Sony FX3. Although it’s not the first time that an action narrative feature was shot on affordable consumer cameras, there’s something ultra intriguing to know how it was done. The advantages of using small and simple cameras are well known.

While Expend4bles underperformed at the box office this weekend, the movie might find more of an audience once it hits streaming in the next few months. While I didn’t love the film, I still had a decent enough time with it. Director Scott Waugh, who previously directed Act of Valor and Need for Speed, kept the movie moving quickly and packed it with some good action, including a big fight between bad guy Iko Uwais and Jason Statham’s Lee Christmas. In our exclusive interview, Waugh explains how he made sure the fight was more two-sided than usual for a Statham scrap. Waugh also explains what it was like making an Expend4bles movie where Stallone’s role is pretty small. He also tells us about an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie he’s making, Breakout. He reacts to the surprising success of Hidden Strike, a Jackie Chan/ John Cena movie he...

Before John Wick ushered in a new era of stuntmen turned directors, Expend4bles director Scott Waugh was one of the few exceptions to pull off the feat. Following in the footsteps of his older brother Ric Roman Waugh, the younger Waugh made his own luck by funding 2012’s Act of Valor and co-directing the action film alongside Mouse McCoy. The film starred active-duty Navy Seals, and its success then opened the door for Waugh to direct Need for Speed for Disney, as well as DreamWorks head Steven Spielberg.
Expend4bles is now Waugh’s fifth feature film, and he managed to cross off a major bucket-list item in working with Sylvester Stallone. The duo were supposed to join forces with Jackie Chan on Waugh’s other 2023 film, Hidden Strike, but the volatility of Hollywood schedules led to Stallone’s exit. However, Waugh still managed to bring a bit of Chan’s...

For a movie with a tagline that literally (and hilariously) states, "They'll die when they're dead," perhaps it's only fitting that "Expendables 4" feels like a last gasp for star-driven action blockbusters. In a noticeable shift in historic trends, audiences seem to have increasingly flocked to theaters less out of a desire to see specific movie stars, and more to catch the latest event-sized movie based on a recognizable brand. Tom Cruise may be on the frontlines fighting back against this rising tide with everything that he's got, but surely there's enough evidence to suggest that IP is what's selling tickets these days, not actors. Even A-listers like Chris Evans have begun to accept this, as he recently told GQ, "That was the beauty of working on Marvel films. You never really had to be front and center. The character is the star."
Just don't try telling any of this to the "Expendables" franchise.

On another sleepy autumn weekend at the box office when actors can’t promote their movies due to the strikes, Millennium Media and Lionsgate are rolling out the latest in their long-in-the-tooth Sylvester Stallone-Jason Statham franchise, Expendables 4, to a weekend take between $15 million-$17 million.
That range is right around where 2014’s Expendables 3 opened –$15.8M– and not far from where Stallone’s last Rambo film resided pre-pandemic, 2019’s Rambo: Last Blood, which bowed to $18.8M. Expendables 3 ended its stateside run at $39.3M while Rambo: Last Blood finaled at $44.8M.
Guys over 25 are the grab with the fourth movie about over-the-hill action heroes booked in 3,400 theaters. The R-rated movie is also playing at 700 Plf screens including Xd, Rpx, Dolby and D Box. Previews start at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Similar to other Lionsgate pics with Millennium, the former is handling North America and UK. Again, all these meat-and-potatoes...

The behind-the-scenes of ‘The Creator’ was released, clearly showing the Sony FX3 as the dominant (and only?) camera on set. As demonstrated in the BTS, the advantages of the FX3 were well utilized in short and fast cuts, to deliver this ‘Vietnam- robotic sci-fi’ movie to IMAX. Explore what director Gareth Edwards has to say about his shooting style, allowed by the compactness of the FX3.

While critics may not love them, audiences love the adventures of Sylvester Stallone’s Barney Ross, Jason Statham’s Lee Christmas, and the rest of the gang. The Expendables 4 (which is actually called Expend4bles) recently got it’s first full, official trailer (embedded above), which is pretty last minute considering the movie is set for a September 22, 2023 release date. Arnold Schwarzenegger is finally returning to the action genre four years after his last film. "Breakout," a prison escape thriller from director Scott Waugh, is currently set to begin shooting later this year, according to Deadline. The film will end up marking the first time Schwarzenegger has appeared on the big screen since 2019, when he starred in the legacy sequel "Terminator: Dark Fate." Although the former action superstar and ex-governor of California has a number of additional projects in the works, "Breakout" seems to be the most classically Schwarzenegger-ian action movie on his docket and places the actor in the lead role.
Schwarzenegger famously stepped away from the limelight to pursue his political career for several years, prior to returning to acting. He made a small cameo in 2010's "The Expendables," which released near the end of his governorship, before becoming part of the main cast in the next two sequels.

It has been four years since Arnold Schwarzenegger took on a major role in a movie, but he's looking to be back. The Austrian icon is taking the lead in new action thriller Breakout.
Act Of Valor director Scott Waugh will make this one from a script by Richard D’Ovidio. Arnie will play Terry Reynolds, whose stepson, Daniel, is framed and sentenced to 25 years in a foreign country. Reynolds makes a daring jailbreak to save him and must overcome an overzealous prison warden in a race against time to avoid capture and flee the country.
Yes, Arnie already has some screen prison break experience thanks to 2013's Escape Plan, but this should prove to be a different challenge. It'll shoot this year in Europe.
And it has been in development for a while already – the last time it pinged our news radar, RZA was attached to direct.

In /Film's review of "Guy Ritchie's The Covenant," the critic (yours truly) made passing reference to the fact that the film was based on a real-life story, and stated that army sergeant John Kinley, the role played by Jake Gyllenhaal in the movie, was a real person. This wasn't accurate. While the film was extrapolated from a patchwork of actual events and experiences that happened during the Afghanistan war, it was not a direct biography of any one person in particular. As it happens, there is no actual person named John Kinley who fought in Afghanistan. The error has been corrected.

Scott Waugh whose credits include “Act of Valor” and the upcoming “The Expendables 4,” is attached to direct the upcoming documentary “Escape to Atlantis,” based on the findings of Seattle native Dr. Jason Rubin who has used deductive reasoning, the writings of philosopher Plato and cutting-edge satellite sonar imagery to pinpoint the location of the fabled lost island of Atlantis.
Said Waugh: “Every story, whether fact or fable, has a character we believe in and hope they prevail. Wouldn’t it be great to be part of a story where our protagonist wins and redefines the world’s truth?” “If Dr. Rubin has found Atlantis, not only does he continually save lives in the ER room, but he will have risen the dead of those lost in Plato’s fable and will redefine our history. That is a story I want to be a part of,” he added.

Director Scott Waugh is set to helm the action thriller film Eye In the Sky.
The film follows a arms dealer, who after escaping his prison transport and hijacks a fully weaponized Blackhawk over downtown Los Angeles, it’s up to a top LAPD helicopter pilot to take him down before the entire city is destroyed. Millennium Films is financing. Cindy Cowan is producing.
Waugh’s feature credits include the film Act of Valor, which gained notoriety for the use of real Navy-seals to accomplish the complex action sequences. He most recently directed Snafu, an upcoming action adventure feature starring John Cena and Jackie Chan. The film is a Chinese co-production slated for release in 2022.
Waugh is repped by Artists First and Stuart Rosenthal at Goodman Genow.

My generation has been educated in an entirely different way from filmmakers of the past. For many young filmmakers, YouTube channels, Blu-Ray special features, online blogs, and podcasts have taken the place of summer camps and even traditional film schools. My own endeavor into filmmaking started at 6-years-old, in the golden age of online content. The early 2010s saw the dawn of Film Riot, Indy Mogul, FreddieW, NoFilmSchool and, of course, Shane Hurlbut’s The Hurlblog. While many of the resources available to me, as a young filmmaker, often focused on guerrilla filmmaking with a shoe-string budget, I distinctly remember The Hurlblog as being one of the only outlets on the internet at the time that really showcased the actual processes used on big-budget studio films. Do you like lists? Well, here’s a doozy. Below is everything coming to Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu and Amazon Prime in June 2020.
Though the summer sun is starting to beat down, most of us are still being encouraged to stay indoors for Covid-19 related reasons. It’s not much fun, but at the very least, there’s an absolute ton of stuff landing in June that should distract you from the call of the beach.
Of particular note is the newly launched HBO Max, which is trying to catch the eye of potential subscribers with a red-hot first month. There’s an excellent selection of movies coming on June 1st, with horror titles like An American Werewolf in London (still the best werewolf movie ever made), Final Destinations 1-4, From Dusk til Dawn and Lifeforce.

Momentum Pictures will release 6 Below: Miracle On The Mountain in select theaters and On Demand and Digital HD on October 13th.
6 Below: Miracle on the Mountain is about as predictable as its title. Director Scott Waugh (Need for Speed, Act of Valor) takes us into the world of Eric LeMarque (Josh Hartnett), a former pro hockey star that lost his way. While we gauge our eyes upon the true events that shape LeMarque’s story, we inherit the central focus of his drug problem. We learn that all he has is his addiction, which comes with flashbacks that are almost just as bad; the one positive thing he has is his snowboard. Although, all three of these things eventually bring Eric to a peak of deeper isolation. He gets stranded in the Sierra Nevada mountains; what a shocker right? Eric’s mom Susan, played by Mira Sorvino,...
