So this was actually the third movie in the franchise? Hmmm, I don't believe I've actually seen the first two movies. So I wonder if I was missing out on anything grand in order to fully understand the storyline in this 2021 movie "The Demon Suppressors: West Barbarian Beast", as I sat down to watch it here in 2023.
Actually I don't think I've ever heard about these movies, to be honest. But I opted to watch director
Suiqiang Huo's 2021 movie nonetheless.
The storyline in "The Demon Suppressors: West Barbarian Beast" was actually entertaining and enjoyable. It was a pretty straight forward script, but it was still rather enjoyable. It is the type of movie where you just lean back, munch on the snacks and watch the action on the screen.
The acting performances in the movie were good. Though, I have to say that I wasn't familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list.
Visually then "The Demon Suppressors: West Barbarian Beast" was actually quite good. The wardrobe and costumes was really nice and with lots of details, as were the sets and stages. The special effects were good and believable, and that definitely lifted up the movie a notch.
There was also a good amount of action throughout the course of the movie, and that was something I enjoyed here, because if it had been a drama without any fighting, it would have been a completely different movie to sit through. The action was fast paced, nicely choreographed and looked great on the screen.
If you enjoy a good old fashioned Chinese martial arts movie without all the Wire Fu, you know Wuxia, then "The Demon Suppressors: West Barbarian Beast" is actually quite worth taking 100 minutes to watch. I was genuinely entertained by the movie.
My rating of "The Demon Suppressors: West Barbarian Beast" lands on a six out of ten stars.
