And all these years I thought MTV invented the music video format! Some might call this a short film (run time 8 minutes) but it's really a very early music video. Looked at in this light I think it's pretty good. Patti Page sounds lovely and performs the storytelling aspects of both of these two songs quite well. The set and set up are also visually interesting and effective. My main issue with Autumn in Rome is the direction. It definitely gives the impression that poor Patti hasn't slept in days and is in need of a good nap, as she is continually resting her head, at first down on the piano, then down on the fireplace mantel, and then on the back of the sofa. I hope she was eventually able to get the sleep she so desperately needed. Either way, I think Autumn in Rome is worth checking out if the opportunity presents itself.
