The BBC wanted to adapt the final Peter Wimsey novel "Busman's Honeymoon" to complete the Wimsey/Vane story, but they could not acquire the rights.
According to Edward Petherbridge, Michael Simpson cut "Gaudy Night" down from four to three episodes and extended "Have His Carcase" from three to four episodes, much to his and Harriet Walter's dismay.
Edward Petherbridge saw Lord Peter Wimsey as "maintaining the impenetrable shell of the silly fool, the complete comedian, to camouflage an underlying extraordinary seriousness."
