A year after being attacked by a white shark, Capetown professional diver Kate Mathieson (Halle Berry), dubbed "the shark whisperer", is persuaded by estranged husband Jeff (Olivier Martinez) to return to shark diving when millionaire Wiliam Brady (Ralph Brown) offers her €100,000 to allow him to swim uncaged with sharks. She should have stayed on drydock.
The movie is based on a screenplay written by Ronnie Christensen and Amy Sorlie.
Kate is located in Capetown in extreme South Africa (see map here). The dive is located on nearby Seal Island, a real island in the False Bay south of Capetown and home to thousands of seals, a big attractant to great white sharks.
Starboard refers to the right side of a boat from the perspective of facing the bow (front). The left side of a boat is referred to as "port".
A helicopter bears in above the lifeboat containing Kate, Jeff, and Luke.
