When I saw this movie on Netflix, I decided to watch it just because it takes place in Spokane (close to where I grew up). With a pretty dismal rating, I wasn't expecting much going into it. However, I was pleasantly surprised.
The production value, acting, filming, sound, etc. are all well done. Unlike many Netflix instant-play movies, it seemed this one was made by a competent production company that actually invested into the quality of the film.
Although the story isn't anything extraordinary, and can be very slow at times, it can be credited with being somewhat original and provides a few fresh twists. If you aren't expecting a Hollywood blockbuster, and can manage to sit through a movie without A-list actors, you may actually find the 90 minutes of Toxic Skies enjoyable.
The only thing I am really disappointed with is the location of Spokane plays no role besides the movie needing to take place somewhere. It is ironic the one thing that hooked me into watching the movie ended up being irrelevant.

A mysterious illness has broken out, sending its victims into the hospitals convulsing and vomiting and generally looking really gross. The disease displays symptoms that lead super-doctor Tess Martin (Anne Heche) to begin thinking that the Bubonic Plague has erupted. But when a guy named Jack (James Tupper), who just so happens to Speak Truth to Power, gets on the scene, he clues Tess in a frightening conspiracy.
Toxic Skies is one of those straight-to-video movies. For being a low budget film shot in Canada, this movie has great cinematography and editing. The movie had more potential if only the writing had been better. The script was too inaccurate and unrealistic. Too much effort was put into the message, and not enough into the quality of the film. The movie is slow.
Toxic Skies cobbles a few elements from the movie "Outbreak", particularly why it becomes personally important for Tess to quickly discover a cure. The movie isn't as suspenseful as it could have been. The film touches on an important motivation of Tess' physician work, yet never returns to it. There just seemed like great potential for backstories, or learning more about the two main doctors in general.
Anne Heche gives a solid performance as Dr. Tess Martin, but the rest of the cast is lacking of talent.
Not great, but watchable....

The problem with the complaints about this movie is they are all centered on making fun of conspiracy theories which is exactly what the corporations want you to believe. This is brought out effectively in the movie but the reviewers who want more sex and violence are not mature enough for this subject. Corporations who are obliged and required by their bylaws to make money don't want to kill you but collateral damage is to be expected. Haven't we learned from BP oil spills, made up wars for oil and Halliburton and the billions of lobbyist money that goes to buy Congressmen, judges and Presidents that there is more to this than you think. "Cuting corners with people's lives, how could you let that happen?" "Unbelievable." It is not your government that you should fear, but the people who make fun of Government by saying things like the nine scariest words in the English language are "I'm from the government and I'm here to help." Those people are bought off by the corporations. The government IS here to help but when Corporations infiltrate the government and prop up actors and buffoons to make you think everything is a big conspiracy, what they mean is its all a joke, nothing to see here move along.
This is a great movie and they do even have a little romance for those who can only handle sex and violence.

The first five minutes of this movie made me think it was going to be good. I was wrong. Totally and completely boring.
Well, I guess that based on the script and the idea behind this celluloid junk this would be a better title for this movie.
TS is living proof that people have run out of ideas ages ago. Basically, we have another movie about some government/big companies conspiracy to screw the lives of the poor citizens of USA. This time it is all about CHEMTRAILS which are made by airplanes spraying the skies with harmful chemicals, viruses and whatever... It is funny that with so many other sources for bad guys (terrorists, muslin fundamentalists, Ronald MacDonald, soccer hooligans, Paris Hilton, etc...) they still insist on these bad government/bad company type of villains. It is hard to believe that there are people that still fall for this kind of nonsense. On the other hand, we are reminded time and again of human stupidity, because, as we all know, humans believe anything and anyone.
Regarding the technical merits of the film, there is nothing much to say. It is a pretty sub-par and mediocre way to waste a couple of hours. It is slow moving, boring, nothing interesting happens. Not even gratuitous scenes of sex, violence or an idiotic romantic subplot.
I gave it two stars because it made me fall asleep, which was good.

Watchable movie. Points us in the right direction to a lot of Gov. secrecy. This movie is a bit old but we should know by now if we have woke up and look around that some movies are propaganda and some are trying to wake us up. Anne is good. Don't know James. Needs to lose some weight. The movie is a bit slow and Nurse goodbody plays the don't show emotions well. I wonder how the hero gets in the car when it shows Anne always locks the door with the remote. Another blooper. Another gotcha is only one town is affected by airplane vapor, hmm very selective spraying I guess. To Author: Uriah43 from Amarillo, Texas. Do some research before making conspiracy theory comments.

A deadly virus has struck Spokane, Washington, and "Dr. Tess Martin" (Anne Heche) is trying to find a cure. But before she can do that she needs to isolate the virus and figure out why all known antibiotics don't even slow it down. Meanwhile, a person named "Jack" (James Tupper) is trying to convince her that there is a conspiracy going on and wants her to expose the people responsible. In the meantime, patients are beginning to die and it appears that the Mayor, the Army and a CEO of a leading drug pharmaceutical are all behind the spread of the disease. At any rate, rather than reveal the rest of the story, I will just say that this is a nice little conspiracy film which should keep most viewers interested from start to finish. Anne Heche is quite cute and gives a good performance as the doctor who is both competent and caring. Likewise, James Tupper does quite well as the conspiracy fanatic who just won't give up. And although the story is a little far-fetched at times, I still enjoyed it and think that most fans of this genre will appreciate it too.
This film is very difficult to watch.
I'm sure there is a logical explanation for the camera work but literally every scene is shot so tight, you're constantly seeing nothing but heads. To add to that, everything is cut into (what seems like) 2 second cuts.
Very rarely is there a long scene that isn't jumping around.
As for the story line itself: utterly bonkers.
RIP Anne Heche. Sadly, her acting in this film is as bad as her doctoring.
Low budget, low effort, low quality. It's like a dollar store version of a movie.
I haven't quite reached the ending yet, but i have very, very low expectations for a resolution to this medical drama.

I found the premise of this movie fascinating. "Chemtrails" are certainly an interesting phenomena! The white trails behind many planes these days seem to linger for many hours and unlike water vapors (contrails) they do not decapitate.
It makes me think why there is so much resistance to a non-biased investigation on chemtrails and what they contain.
It is also interesting how the mere interest/questioning of this phenomena is responded to with hostile name calling and ridicule.
Many scientists disagree with the government/NASA attempt to explain Chemtrails. This movie provides a plausible theory on the "Aerosol operation" or "chemtrails".

This movie is better than the rating indicates. Anne Heche has been inconsistent in some other movies, but puts in a very good performance in this one.
The story is believable. The untrustworthy behavior of the government officials and military officers reminded me of some of the better episodes of The X-Files TV Series.
The direction is competent, I did not notice any serious flaws. It seems that most people haven't seen it, as we can tell by the relatively low number of ratings on IMDB.
Since this movie is now available on YouTube in 1080p HD for free, I recommend that people give it a try. I think most will not be disappointed.

Sure, when I sat down to watch the 2008 movie "Toxic Skies", I must admit that my level of expectation wasn't exactly sky high. I mean, the movie's synopsis didn't really sell the movie all that well, and the movie's cast wasn't exactly something that had me thrilled either. But I hadn't seen the movie, much less heard about it, so of course I sat down to watch it now in 2020, as I had the chance to do so.
And I will say that "Toxic Skies" was not the worst of movies I have seen. However, it wasn't really an outstanding or particularly memorable movie experience either. The movie was watchable, and that was about it.
Story-wise then "Toxic Skies" felt a bit shallow and pointless at times, especially since writers Andrew C. Erin and Kyle Hart seemed to be stumbling about in the dark at times. The movie had its ups and downs, that was for sure, so there were moments of boredom in the movie as well.
As for special effects, well let's just say that you shouldn't expect to be blown away. However, it should be said though, that the movie wasn't really depending on having an overwhelming array of special effects to work its magic. The few effects that were there served their purpose, and that was it.
"Toxic Skies" does not bolster itself on having an overly impressive cast list. Anne Heche was the most prominent name in the movie, and even this wasn't her finest moment. Sure, she made it watchable, but she has much better movies to her name.
I suppose if you think "Outbreak" but without the interesting and intense storyline and impressive cast, then you have "Toxic Skies".
I was somewhat not properly entertained by what I witnessed on the screen as I sat through "Toxic Skies". And that results in a rating of four out of ten stars from me.

If only I could understand Anne Heche if she did not mumble
Had to turn it off after a few minutes did not know what she was saying. Sad because all other actors I could understand. Like tek- 1/10 and don't waste your time as well.

The plot has more holes than a dozen golf courses, including the practice putting greens. Viruses aren't cured by vaccines, the don't create metal. Decontamination is a lot bigger deal than they show. No sterile technique in the hospital. Don't know how to run a code. No concept of biolab security. Should I go on? Acting, is poor, epilogue is trite. A waste of time unless you want to make fun of it along the way.
Yes, stupidity should be punished, that's why the rating is "very bad". If the film aims to convince stupid people that the government is poisoning them from the sky, that they should put on tinfoil hats, not get vaccinated and hide in the basement, it succeeds in that direction.
But much better in that are conspiracy documentaries. We don't need to bother adding art, using actors. Stupid people will swallow anything thrown at them as long as it convinces them that they are good, but a bad government stands in their way and seeks to kill them.
Maybe years ago I would have said, so what, let there be movies like that. But after Covid I am convinced that such creations kill people. The authors of the film may not be bad people, but do bad. Stupidity must be punished.

Another one about an epidemic, this time caused by some substances (metals) spread by the jet fuel of airplanes. Anne Heche is simply constipated throughout
the whole movie. The acting of the other actors is forced, nobody really believes in his role, in their lines. No stars, no nothing!
