British actor Julian Sands, known for starring in films such as A Room with a View and Leaving Las Vegas, was confirmed dead June 27th after he went missing while hiking in San Bernardino County in January. He was 65.
“The identification process for the body located on Mt. Baldy on June 24, 2023, has been completed and was positively identified as 65-year-old Julian Sands of North Hollywood,” the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department said in a statement. “The manner of death is still under investigation, pending further test results. We would like to extend our gratitude to all the volunteers that worked tirelessly to locate Mr. Sands.”
In January, police told ABC 7 that Sands’ family reported him missing when he did not return from the hike, while his car was still parked in the area. Rescue teams launched a search for him, but unusually severe weather in Southern California meant the...

“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” is losing a detective. Kelli Giddish, who portrays Amanda Rollins on the NBC drama, will depart during the upcoming 24th season. She will be in at least the premiere episode. Exact details regarding her exit were not provided by the network.
In a statement from Giddish provided by NBC, she wrote: “I wanted to address the chatter I’ve seen online and let everyone know that this will, indeed, be my last season on ‘Law & Order: Svu.’ Playing Rollins has been one of the greatest joys and privileges of my life. I’ve been so fortunate to be a part of the ‘Law & Order’ family for the last 12 years. There is simply no other character on TV like Rollins. She’s grown and changed, and I have as well. When Selena Gomez wants to join your song, you know it's a good one. And that's exactly what happened with Trevor Daniel and his track "Past Life." While it's been quiet the year from Trevor —he released his debut album Nicotine in March and landed his first spot on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Falling"—but 2020 got a little bit sweeter with one text: Selena wanted to be part of the "Past Life" remix—and sent over the vocals to prove it. Wandering through an airport when the message came through, "I was excited to hear it and she sounded great, of course," the 25-year-old exclusively shared with E! News. "I was just pacing...

Thousands of members of Israel’s entertainment industry convened in Tel Aviv Thursday night for a socially distanced protest calling on the government to provide desperately needed aid.
The event began with a laser light show depicting “150” in huge numbers inside a ticking clock, a reference to the 150,000 entertainment industry workers in the country. Tens of thousands have already lost their jobs, while many more are on unpaid leave. Following the light show, participants lined up to sign a wall-sized petition addressed to the prime minister.
While gatherings bans are in place in Israel, political protests are one of the exceptions to the rule providing protesters maintain distancing guidelines. Police were concerned, however, that some participants were not abiding to the restrictions Thursday night.

Family disputes and conspiracies take center stage in “The Other Story,” veteran helmer Avi Nesher’s lively drama exploring a hot button issue: the divide between Israel’s secular Jews and the ultra-Orthodox. The fluid narrative plays out against the backdrop of a Jerusalem riven by multiple conflicts as two dysfunctional families separately arrive at an understanding of what is important in life and are ultimately able to dial back their desire to deal in inflexible absolutes. Like Nesher’s other features of the past decade this smartly cast and smoothly directed drama involves an investigation. It’s a neat script ploy that allows loyalties to shift, revelations to surface and hidden agendas to appear, while keeping the action pacey and the audience guessing. After breaking box office records in Israel, Nesher’s entertaining 18th film will start its theatrical rollout on both coasts through Strand Releasing.
Actually, “The Other Story” boasts multiple investigations.

The latest example is an untitled drama project from former Friday Night Lights executive producer David Hudgins, which has been sold by Universal TV, where Hudgins is under an overall deal, to CBS. A New York judge has tossed the yearlong legal action around the short-lived paranormal crime series. “The Court finds that no discerning observer would conclude that Past Life had appropriated protected elements from Transience,” wrote Judge Barbara Jones yesterday (read ruling here). Transience writer Stevan Mena sued Fox Entertainment, Warner Bros Entertainment as well as producers David Hudgins and Craig Perry for copyright infringement last August. Produced by Warner Bros Television, Past Life debuted on February 9, 2010. With low ratings, Fox cancelled the show after three episodes. The screenwriter claimed that significant elements of the TV series were drawn from the script he wrote back in 2008. For instance, both do feature reincarnation, a child who has visions and is taken care of by a doctor and crime. However the judge ruled that there’s nothing unique about such story devices. Mena contends that his feature script made its way to Past Life...

Photos of stars without makeup are a guilty pleasure for anyone who doesn't have a beauty team. But every so often, an actress looks terrific naturally.
Kelli Giddish of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," airing Wednesdays on NBC, manages to look stunning with her blonde hair pulled back and no makeup.
She's in her dressing room at the Chelsea Piers on Manhattan's far west side. Here, at the well-oiled machine that is this show in its 13th season, Giddish plays Detective Amanda Rollins, a transplant from Georgia, which is what Giddish is, albeit with a few stops in between.
She's lived in Texas, California, Georgia and New York. After "Past Life" and "Chase," which didn't make full seasons, she says it's a relief to be on a show with a solid foundation. Still, dealing with people's basest depravities, as each episode does, takes its toll.

I’ve been watching Detectives Stabler and Benson since Law & Order: Svu first exploded onto the scene so I’m not real sure how I’ll handle new faces, but the latest from Entertainment Weekly reveals that the producers are taking things seriously because the two new additions to the sex crimes unit have some history with working on a TV series.

USA's new summer series, "Necessary Roughness," is currently shooting in Atlanta, Ga. and we hear that it has picked up some heat with a new guest star.

He plays Griffin Page, a dashing former war correspondent who goes on to host his own cable news show. Page seeks treatment from psychotherapist Dani (played by Callie Thorne) after inexplicably cracking up during a somber report and getting suspended from his job.

Walt Disney Studios has announced that they have acquired and are presently in development on a new picture called The Runner. The movie is a science fiction film on which Disney is collaborating with writer Dave Andron, director Marc Foster and Brad Simpson, Brian Grazer, and Blacklight Transmedia’s Zak Kadison and Eric Lieb.
The story, set in 2027, centers on a man who travels back in time to visit Earth before it became not fit to live in an attempt to change the past. The plot is decidedly non-Disney. It seems reasonable to consider it as a typical post apocalyptic time travel project.
In the near future, with the Earth’s surface inhabitable, a small group of survivors pick one man to travel back in time to try and stop the event that caused the destruction. Once he lands in the past, however, overlooks the humanity and egoistically tries to save his beloved sweetheart.

The latest round of pilot casting includes a familiar face returning to CBS, Fox casting a lead in "I Hate My Teenage Daughter" and NBC adding three actors to its "Prime Suspect" pilot.
These updates come courtesy of Deadline Hollywood, which, we must admit, has pretty much been owning the casting news this pilot season. Here's the rundown:
- Former "Without a Trace" star Poppy Montgomery is returning to CBS in a drama pilot from one of that show's exec producers, Ed Redlich, and co-writer John Bellucci. She'll play an NYPD detective who's blessed/cursed with the ability to remember absolutely everything.
- Jaime Pressly will star opposite Katie Finneran in Fox's comedy "I Hate My Teenage Daughter." The "My Name Is Earl" Emmy winner will play a mom who fears she's raising a Mean Girl.

When NBC presented "Chase," its fall pilot about U.S. Marshalls, at TCA's Press Tour on Friday (July 30), our first impression was that it was a very hardcore police procedural. And even the adorable female lead, Kelli Giddish, confirmed our suspicions.
Last seen on "Past Life," Giddish says that she loves playing Annie on the NBC show. "I couldn't keep a pair of shoes clean to save my life when I was a kid," she says. "It's so great to play a woman who accepts all the physicality. So, yeah, it's a dream. It's such a dream."
She says that she trained with actual U.S. Marshals from Houston to prepare for the role, and they all do their own stunts. "If you see me going down a river, it's me," she says. "And it's the fugitive, you know. And that goes for everybody here. I think that's so exciting about this show.

ABC is keeping pace with NBC for the "most new shows ordered" title at the 2010 upfronts, adding two more dramas to its roster for 2010-11.
The latest pickups, according to several reports, are a crime show called "Body of Proof" and the Shonda Rhimes-produced "Off the Map," about doctors working in a remote South American clinic. They join comedies "Happy Endings," "Mr. Sunshine" and "Better Together" and dramas "No Ordinary Family," "My Generation" and "Detroit 187" -- bringing ABC's pickup total to nine series, which is just behind NBC's 11.
(Fox has picked up five shows so far, and CBS and The CW will probably each add three or four.)

"Chase" has joined the growing NBC lineup.
The new drama from Jerry Bruckheimer is the latest scripted show the network has picked up, Angela Bromstad, NBC primetime chief announced Monday (May 10).
"Chase," which centers on a team of U.S. marshals that hunt down dangerous fugitives, stars Kelli Giddish as U.S. Marshal Annie Frost, a Texan who uses her roots and boots to help her track down the criminals.
Also part of the team are "Desperate Housewives" alum Jesse Metcalfe, Cole Hauser, Amaury Nolasco and Rose Rollins.

Hmm, Giddish was supposed to be the breakout star for Fox's "Past Life," which was unceremoniously yanked from the schedule, presumably not to be reincarnated.
