S.V. Rajendra Singh (Babu) had wanted to cast the legendary Kalpana in the lead role of Dr. Nandini, along with Vishnuvardhan and Ambarish, before she passed away in 1979. In 1984, he made the movie with Suhasini and Vishnuvardhan in the leads. Ambarish had become a popular hero by then and that role went to the good-looking Jai Jagdish, who was not only a popular villain but also the husband of Babu's sister Vijayalakshmi Singh. The movie was dedicated to the late Kalpana.
