Al Pacino is opening up about going broke a little over ten years ago.
The 84-year-old actor shared in his new memoir, “Sonny Boy,” that he had a corrupt account and lost millions of dollars. That account eventually went to prison for their crimes.
Keep reading to find out more…
In his book, the Oscar winner shared in 2011, he started “to get warnings that my accountant at the time, a guy who had lots of celebrity clients, was not to be trusted.”
After the accountant’s mismanagement of his finances and over spending, Al says he “went broke.”
“In this business, when you make $10 million dollars for a film, it’s not $10 million. Because after the lawyers, and the agents, and the publicist, and the government, it’s not $10 million, it’s four and half in your pocket,” he wrote. “But you’re living above that because you’re high on the hog.

Exclusive: WME has signed Fisher Stevens and his production company Highly Flammable, which he launched last spring alongside producers Maura Anderson and Zak Kilberg. They’ll rep the Academy Award-winning multi-hyphenate, going forward, across all scripted and documentary projects.
The move comes less than a week after Stevens’ Beckham docuseries was released on Netflix, debuting as the streamer’s most-watched English-language series of the week. The four-parter, on which he teamed with Oscar and Emmy-winning producer John Battsek (Searching for Sugar Man), tells the inside story of the global football star and cultural icon, offering unprecedented access not only to Beckham, but also to his wife Victoria, his family, his friends and his teammates.
Fisher’s scripted directing credits include the ex-convict drama Palmer, starring Justin Timberlake, which remains one of Apple TV+’s top 10 most popular films; the comedic thriller Stand Up Guys, starring Al Pacino, Christopher Walken, Alan Arkin,...

Mark Margolis, a veteran actor with hundreds of credits dating back to the 1970s but perhaps best known for his Emmy-nominated portrayal of cartel don Hector “Tio” Salamanca on TV’s Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, died Thursday at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City following a short illness. He was 83.
His death was announced by son Morgan Margolis, the CEO of Knitting Factory Entertainment. Morgan Margolis said he and Mark’s wife Jacqueline were at his bedside at the time of death.
“He was one of a kind,” said manager Robert Kolker of Red Letter Entertainment. “We won’t see his likes again. He was a treasured client and a lifelong friend. I was lucky to know him.”
Born on November 26, 1939 in Philadelphia, Margolis briefly attended Temple University before moving to New York City to study acting, first under Stella Adler at the Actors Studio and subsequently...

Given his growing tendency to line up half of Hollywood to appear in his films, anyone cast in a Wes Anderson movie might worry just how much screen time they’ll end up getting.
Not Fisher Stevens.
After minor roles in The Grand Budapest Hotel (a concierge), Isle of Dogs (the voice of a mutt called Scrap) and The French Dispatch (an unnamed magazine story editor), he’s now set to make a similarly background appearance in Asteroid City, Anderson’s latest, and featuring arguably the director’s most ludicrous array of top-tier talent to date (a list so long, it may test the wide lenses of Cannes’ red carpet paparazzi when it bows May 23). And very happily so.
“I’m around. I mean, you’ll see me in the film. But I wouldn’t say it’s my Oscar-winning performance,” Stevens tells The Hollywood Reporter, adding that blink-and-you’ll-miss-it or not,...

It’s happening. It’s finally happening. What was once a particularly pervasive and aggressive Internet meme is now a reality. HBO Max’s list of new releases for March 2021 is highlighted by none other than the mythical Snyder cut.
The entity now known as Zach Snyder’s Justice League will premiere on March 18. While it was originally planned to be a four-part miniseries, this recut version of 2017’s ill-fated Justice League will in fact be a four-hour movie. But perhaps even four hours won’t be enough for fans who have been waiting years for just such an event.

In “Palmer,” Justin Timberlake taps into his roots, headlining the inverse of last year’s “Hillbilly Elegy,” in which a Southern boy who went off to Yale looked back on his origins to explain the red-state attitudes that look so alien to conservatives. Here, Timberlake delivers a beer-chugging, pickup-driving, fight-picking portrait of what he might have become had he not left Tennessee at 12 to appear on “The All-New Mickey Mouse Club.” Not him, per se, but picture a talent who never got the chance to broaden his horizons. He might turn out like the leathery loner Timberlake portrays in this inspirational feature.

The “NYPD Blue” sequel pilot has cast Rick Gomez in the series regular role of Det. Craig Pettibone, Variety has learned.
Pettibone is studying law at night with the goal of passing the bar one day. Although he hasn’t passed it yet, he’s aggressive enough to be already drumming up clients by passing out his business card.
Gomez recently appeared in the ABC drama “The Crossing.” His other notable TV roles include stints on “Justified,” “Band of Brothers,” and “The Adventures of Pete & Pete.” On the film side, he has appeared in “Stand Up Guys,” “Ray,” “Sin City,” and “Transformers.”
He is repped by Apa.
Gomez’s casting comes just after Fabien Frankel was announced for the lead role of Theo Sipowicz, the son of the original series’ main character Andy Sipowicz. Other cast members in the pilot include Alona Tal, Bill Brochtrup, and Kim Delaney, the...

After breaking Kickstarter records with his scrappy drama Wish I Was Here, and ruffling a few feathers in the process, Zach Braff is back in the director’s chair, and this time it’s for a Hollywood studio. Remaking Martin Brest’s 1979 film Going in Style, he’s brought together Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and Alan Arkin, and the first trailer has landed today.
Scripted by Theodore Melfi (Hidden Figures), the film follows life-long friends who team up to rob a bank after they lose their pension. Judging from the trailer, fans of geriatric comedies such as Last Vegas and Stand Up Guys will find some comfort here, and for everyone else, well, use your judgement. Check out the trailer and poster below for the film also starring Joey King, Matt Dillon, and Ann-Margret.

Aferim! (Radu Jude)
Leave it to a Romanian director to make a movie that best expresses the dangers of the dyed-in-the-wool mindset of modern America. We have a list of the new Hulu movies and shows arriving in October 2018.
Happy Huluween!
Hulu is blessed to have a name that sounds roughly enough like "Hallow." That means it's basically honor-bound to bring the heat for Halloween. Thankfully for the October 2018 new releases, Hulu is bringing us the spookies that we need. The Blair Witch Project, The Others, and Child's Play all arrive this month. And if you're looking for some more wholesome creepies, The Nightmare Before Christmas should do. And if that weren't enough, Hulu is debuting its own horror show - anthology series Into the Dark.
For those shamefully unable to get into the Halloween spirit, Hulu is bringing in some other fun film options. Galaxy Quest, Music and Lyrics, and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective should help out with that.
Then of course, are the usual and typically deep TV offerings.

Al Pacino fully arrives at old-coot-dom, ushered in by David Gordon Green in an apparent self-parody of his usual elegiacal visual style. I’m “biast” (pro): I’m hot and cold on David Gordon Green…

Manglehorn. It sounds like the site of a Victorian-era mountaineering disaster. But it’s only Al Pacino, who has now fully arrived at old-coot-dom, as a lonely Texas locksmith of that portentous name. His film does not live up to it in any way. Manglehorn is a wounded man with real pain in his heart, which we know because he says, “I’m a wounded man… I got real pain in my heart.” He pines for an absent woman named Clara, who may have left him to go save the world with her eyes, which we...

The mafia genre ain’t what it used to be, and that’s a tragedy. One of the oldest genres, the mob hit the big screen in a big way from Hollywood’s earliest moments, with the likes of Edward G. Robinson and Douglas Fairbanks Jr. Scorsese became the unofficial, though widely acknowledged master of the genre in the 1990s, and The Sopranos took the family to the same screen and made television history. But since then, the genre has fallen from favor. Mafia films used to be a breeding ground for young, aggressive actors flexing their stuff: DeNiro, Pacino, Liotta, Pesci, and more. Today, the genre churns out the occasional flick, but the stars have, strangely, stayed the same. The “old” mafia movie, with has-beens and never-was returning the streets saw Pacino and Walken take on Stand Up Guys, and now it has Goodfellas’ own Paul Cicero, Paul Sorvino,...

I want Al Pacino to be in a good movie. He is a great actor and deserves better than material he has been given over the past... who knows how long. From Stand Up Guys to 88 Minutes to Jack and Jill, I just feel so sad when a new Pacino movie comes out. His latest film is The Humbling, directed by Barry Levinson, which just got a new trailer. The film has played the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals to mixed reviews. Skimming what critics have been saying has me really confused. Some call it drama. Some call it a farce. Some say Pacino is boring. Some say it's his best performance in over a decade. I do not know what to make of it. The film will open the Austin Film Festival, so I will be seeing it there on October 23rd and will finally be able to judge for myself.

American literary titan Philip Roth, the Gojira to Don DeLillo’s Mothra, is one of those few famous writers largely untroubled by Hollywood. Until now, that is. Phillip Noyce is working to bring one of his greatest books, the Pulitzer Prize-winning American Pastoral, to the screen and has added Dakota Fanning to a cast roster than already includes Ewan McGregor and Jennifer Connelly.Set during the Vietnam War years, American Pastoral follows Seymour ‘Swede’ Levov (McGregor), a once all-conquering high-school athlete, who’s married to a beauty queen (Connelly) and runs the business he’s inherited from his dad. All seems well in Swede’s world until his daughter Merry (Fanning) joins the countercultural clamour of the time, signing up as a revolutionary and committing a fatal act of violence that throws all their lives into chaos.Noyce, who inherited the project from Fisher Stevens (Stand Up Guys), has been...

I have a curious habit, maybe you have it too, if you are a real movie geek, film fan, cinema addict, what have you.
A certain number of movies that I have seen and loved with all my heart were losers at the box office or were mercilessly slammed by critics, usually both. This doesn’t happen all the time, mind you. I know a bad movie when I see one. But several times I have seen a movie on opening day and loved it so much I was sure it would be a big hit and be loved by critics and film goers, nope, not all the time.
Here then is my own personal and highly eccentric top ten list, with some honorable mentions, of movies that lost out, yet I love them still, many of them desperately, hysterically, madly do I love these films, well anyway… let me tell you about it.

I didn’t know Christopher Walken had danced in so many movies but it’s a good thing he has otherwise we wouldn’t have this great supercut to show you. He had the moves in Fatboy Slim’s Weapon of Choice video [watch it here] but put them all together with his movies and it’s something special.
Fyi: Walken initially trained as a musical theater dancer at the Washington Dance Studio.

Fallen, a Gothic romantic thriller based on the first book in a series of novels by Lauren Kate, starts shooting in Budapest in March but there are plenty of Adelaide connections to the Us indie production.

Hicks will return to Adelaide to cut the film at Kojo Post. He.d liked to have hired an Australian firm to handle the visual effects but the numbers didn.t stack up.

After years of erudite movie mob bosses and Camus-quoting killers, Woody Harrelson has singlehandedly revived the good, old-fashioned thug
In the very first scene in the harrowing new film Out of the Furnace, Woody Harrelson swings opens the car door, tumbles out of the driver's seat and pukes his guts out. He then forces his gabby consort to swallow whole what appears to be a revolting hot dog, beats senseless a well-meaning but overmatched Sir Galahad who unwisely comes to her rescue, and spends the rest of the movie doing violent, horrible things, many of which result in other people's deaths. Not once does he say anything witty or incisive or clever, much less pithy. Not once does he say anything that could be construed as ironic. Not once does he engage his Jurassic associates in lighthearted banter. No, in Out of the Furnace, Harrelson plays a good, old-fashioned thug.

Trudge Match: Peter Segal, Cashing Checks
At the end of the day, Peter Segal’s latest directorial effort, Grudge Match, may not be the felonious stink bomb as all signs would seem to indicate, but it most certainly is one jaundiced miasma of rote clichés, segmented together with robotic certainty. On the bright side, rather than formulate another Rocky entry or terrorize us with Raging Bull deux, screenwriters Rodney Rothman and Tim Kelleher at least attempt a new amalgamation of pop culture kitsch with its union of Stallone and De Niro. But with the lead performers’ own dubious reputations for sub-par material working against them, along with a narrative that’s either sputtering along on autopilot or asleep at the wheel, the result is a lackluster gimmick, an instantly forgettable malaise cashing in on preceding run-of-the-mill sports folklore.

Even Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone aren't good enough to get Australian cinemagoer bums in seats it would seem.
Hopscotch Films have reportedly shelved plans to theatrically release the $50 million Arnie-Sly team-up action thriller "Escape Plan" in Australia. The title will now go direct-to-disc.
'Escape' fizzled upon release at the U.S. domestic box-office with just $23 million, but has done quite well overseas with a $78 million haul outside North America.
In Australia, both "The Expendables" movies and Arnie's recent "The Last Stand" were solid performers, making the choice all the more perplexing. Fans are understandably unhappy, flooding Hopscotch's Facebook page with complaints.
Hopscotch themselves haven't confirmed it on their social media outlets, though at least two cinema chains have confirmed the pulling of the film which was to score a release on November 28th.
More than ever, films that don't perform well overseas are bypassing theatrical releases here in Australia...

Hopscotch themselves haven't confirmed it on their social media outlets, though at least two cinema chains have confirmed the pulling of the film which was to score a release on November 28th.
More than ever, films that don't perform well overseas are bypassing theatrical releases here in Australia...

Zac Efron, Gerard Butler, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Al Pacino and Eric Bana can all draw sizable audiences but you won.t see their most recent movies in Australian cinemas.
Nor will The Spirit of '45, a feature-length documentary by the highly respected English director Ken Loach, or Michael Kohlhaas, a 16th century adventure starring Mads Mikkelsen (A Royal Affair), play theatrically.
Distributors increasingly are opting to release films straight to home entertainment because it.s it tough to recoup theatrical release costs while DVD and Blu-ray sales continue to fall and since Foxtel Movies slashed the license fees for movies by 30%.
Efron is part of the ensemble cast of Parkland, which recounts the chaotic events in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963, when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Also starring are Billy Bob Thornton, Paul Giamatti, Jacki Weaver and Jackie Earle Haley.

Jersey Boys has cast Christopher Walken.
The veteran Seven Psychopaths actor will take on the role of Angelo 'Gyp' DeCarlo in Clint Eastwood's movie, reports Deadline.
The film will adapt the hit musical of the same name, which tells the tale of The Four Seasons, the young musicians that shot to fame in the 1960s.
DeCarlo served as an unofficial consigliere to the band, who fought to avoid becoming ensnared in organised crime.
Band members Frankie Valli and Bob Gaudio will serve as executive producers on the project.
Eastwood is planning to gather his stars from the casts of various Jersey Boys stage productions.
Iron Man's Jon Favreau was previously attached to the project.
Walken was most recently seen in Stand Up Guys, A Late Quartet and Seven Psychopaths.

After five days, sequel earns 73% of box office of Despicable Me, giving Universal three of five biggest openings of the year
The winner
Wimbledon, Glastonbury and glorious weather across much of the UK created a perfect storm of challenging conditions for cinemas, resulting in some weak debuts and steep falls for existing movies. But a film that audiences really want to see can overcome any obstacle, a phenomenon witnessed many times in the past and seen at the weekend with the release of Despicable Me 2.
Debuting with an astonishing £9.95m, plus £4.87m from two days of previews, after just five days the sequel has achieved 73% of the lifetime box office (£20.2m) for the original Despicable Me. That film debuted in October 2010 with £3.66m including £205,000 in previews – at the time considered a great result for a film based on characters with no pre-existing audience awareness, and from a studio (Universal) with...

The Act Of Killing (15)
(Joshua Oppenheimer, 2012, Den/Nor/UK/Swe/Fin) 122 mins
This astounding documentary is so packed with surreal scenarios, casual corruption and inhumanity, it's difficult to believe it's actually true. It tracks down perpetrators of Indonesia's 60s anti-communist massacres, finding them openly unrepentant about their past atrocities; so much so, they're happy to re-enact them as cinematic scenarios. As well as illuminating modern Indonesia, the process says much about history, its representation and its victors.
This Is The End (15)
(Evan Goldberg, Seth Rogen, 2013, Us) Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, James Franco, Jonah Hill. 107 mins

The 'I'm getting too old for this s**t' action hero card should be played with caution. We've seen it work this year for Arnie in The Last Stand, and backfire horribly for Bruce Willis's worn-out John McClane, so it's hard to know how excited to be at the prospect of Al Pacino and Christopher Walken playing former mobsters out to relive their glory days. On the one hand, it's hard to see how you could go wrong with that pairing. On the other, the last film to star Pacino and Walken was 2003's Gigli, so this could really go either way.
One of Pacino's best performances remains his tragicomic turn as Donnie Brasco's aging, increasingly ineffectual Lefty Ruggiero, and more than a decade on he brings the same wounded,...

Keeping the walking dead off the top spot and dominating the box office for a second week? That looks like a job for Superman
The winner
Topping the chart for a second week in a row, Man of Steel is only the second film this year to reach £20m after just two weekends of play. Les Miserables, the top-grosser for the year with £40.65m, stood at £17.36 at this stage of its run. Iron Man 3 reached £24.57m after two weekends, an 11-day figure. Man of Steel is behind the pace of the summer's top earner, with £21.33m so far. That's already nearly £5m ahead of the lifetime total for Superman Returns, which maxed out here with £16.4m. It's a similar amount ahead of Man of Steel producer Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins, which reached £16.6m in total.
Man of Steel suffered a second-weekend drop of 55%, which compares unfavorably with the...

World War Z (15)

In the end, the much-reported delays, reshoots and overspend have at least resulted in a watchable disaster epic, even if this brings little to the zombie apocalypse party save for a huge guest list. Forster's film finds Pitt pitted against insect-like hordes of the sprinting dead, as his Un agent trots round the globe trying to trace the source of the epidemic, save his family and avoid getting chomped. Mild spoiler alert: blame Wales.

Side Effects Thanks to my visit to Cannes I no longer have to cite Side Effects as the only good movie of 2013 so far. In fact, once Friday rolls around another one of my favorite films of 2013 hits theaters in the form of Before Midnight. However, back to Side Effects, a truly fantastic, smart and intriguing film from Steven Soderbergh. The disc arrived shortly before I had to leave for Cannes so I haven't had a chance to watch it again, but I did see it twice in theaters and will welcome another visit once I get back home.
True Blood: The Complete Fifth Season I started watching this right before I left for Cannes as well and actually took the DVD discs with me to Cannes, hoping I'd have some opportunity to watch at least a couple more episodes. No dice. I really enjoy the "True Blood" series...

Stand Up Guys is the tale of three elderly men having one last night out on the town together. They realize that there’s not much time left, so they figure, why not get the gang back together and relive their glory days? On its own, this might not seem like such an unusual premise, that is, until you factor in that these guys are all former criminals who used to be involved in activities such as robbery and murder. With that in mind, you can begin to imagine just what kind of a night on the town these three would have.
