Making a BBC documentary, Psychosis and Me, about his experience with his mental health struggles made him confront his lowest lows, actor and author David Harewood (Homeland, The Night Manager, Supergirl) told a TV industry gathering on Thursday. “It scared the shit out of me,” he told the Edinburgh TV Festival.
Asked about the overall experience of coming out about his mental health problems and sharing his experience in a doc, he said: “It was the toughest thing I have ever done.”
Recalling specifically going through documents featuring his comments from his time in a psychiatric hospital, Harewood said, “You are reading your disturbed self.”
After “a very difficult period,” he went through “a period of healing” and is now feeling comfortable discussing the topic, he shared.
Questioned whether he was ever worried that his career would be affected by the doc, he shared: “Oh my God,...

Following the success of last year’s Cruel Britannia season, Horror Channel have announced another Brit-centric season, the Heritage Of Horror, which continues to showcase and celebrate British horror, past and present, at its finest – featuring two classics from the vaults and two brand new films, yet to be shown on UK television. I know I’ll be tuning in every Friday night – especially considering Horror Channel are showing one of my all-time favourite horror movies, the superb Blood on Satan’s Claw. I can also recommend 13Hrs, which I saw at FrightFest in 2010, it’s a great little (and by little I mean claustrophobic), werewolf movie. You can read my review of 13Hrs here.
From the press release:
First up, on Friday March 9, is Gary Sherman’s 1973 Death Line. Set on the London Underground, this moody shocker features brilliant horror icon Donald Pleasance in the lead role as a cockney copper.

The gorgeous Charisma Carpenter ('Psychosis', 'The Expendables') and the not so gorgeous Danny Trejo ('Machete') are both lined up to join the new SyFy original project 'Haunted High'. The movie, being helmed by 'Thirst' director Jeffery Lando, sounds like a Disney channel family-film but we're hoping for a bit more edge. Carpenter (below) will be playing 'the sexy librarian' and Trejo will be the school's Janitor and 'kick-butt guardian'. So all-in-all its already peeking my interest! M.C. Gainey, Marc Donato and Jonathan Baron are all set to co-star. Check out the plot synopsis below....

The stunning Charisma Carpenter, most recently seen in 'Psychosis' and 'The Expendables' but better known for her long-running role as Cordelia Chase in both 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' and its spin-off 'Angel', will twin up in 'Deadly Sibling Rivalry'. The new family revenge tale will star Miss Carpenter as both twins (hot!) in the Hanelle M. Culpepper ('Within') helmed thriller. It sounds like a dream scenario and we at least get two Charisma's for the price of one in the flick penned by Steve Peterson and John Murlowski. You can check out the full synopsis and a batch of sexy Carpenter pics below....

Based on “Dreamhouse,” one of the better segments of the 1983 anthology Screamtime, Reg Traviss’ Psychosis (now on DVD from Entertainment One) is an unsuccessful reimagining about a successful novelist, Susan Golden (Charisma Carpenter), escaping to a large mansion in the British countryside with smug boyfriend David (Paul Sculfor) to finish off her latest work. Too bad the home may, or may not, have a bloody past.

Uh oh. It's 1-11-11 release day. Is that good luck or bad? If your a movie fan, I've got sad news. It's bad. Because there ain't much hitting shelves this week.
First up we've got a little know Italian cult release from the folks at Cav Distribution called Alien from the Deep. I was going to lead with Piranah, but this 3rd rate flick's got such a cracking cover that I couldn't resist. Why do I feel like the movie won't live up to it?
Wienstein were smart and took advantage of the slow week to release Andre Aja's Piranha reboot. The outrageous boobs and gore flick is also available for 3D systems.
Byron Haskin's scifi classic, Robinson Crusoe on Mars is out on Criterion Blu-ray this week. I've got the DVD already and it's great. For a film as stunning to look at as this I may have to upgrade.

This past Halloween weekend FilmShaft was entrenched at the Grimm Up North Horror and Sci-Fi Festival in Manchester for three days of horror entertainment. It was a case of the good, the bad and the ugly. Isn’t it always?
The great thing about the programme was the variety. There was interpretations of horror from around the world. Amy Winehouse doesn't know if she loves her boyfriend. Though it was cool to hear her get work in The Expendables when the casting news hit last year, it was a bummer to see Buffy and Angel star Charisma Carpenter go from Wonder Woman rumors to some beefcake's girlfriend. Haunted Houses have been a feature of literature, film and folklore for decades, with 40 per cent of Brits believing in the phenomenon and a hit TV show, Most Haunted, exploring claims of paranormal activity.
On the big screen, some of the more memorable door-creaking chillers include The Haunting (1963 and 1999), The Legend of Hell House (1970), The Shining (1980), The Changeling (1980), House on Haunted Hill (1959 and 1999), The Amityville Horror (1979 and 2005), The Orphanage (2007) and Paranormal Activity (2007).
And just recently it was announced that Guillermo del Toro would write and produce The Haunted Mansion, based on Disney's theme park ride.

Amy Winehouse has pledged to cut down on partying. The troubled singer has reportedly told pals she fears her wild ways could drive away her boyfriend Reg Traviss, who was pictured holding hands with his ex-girlfriend Raven Iris last weekend, and has vowed to stop drinking so much.
"Amy's worried her drinking is driving him into his ex-girlfriend's arms," a source told the Daily Star newspaper. "Reg gets fed up with babysitting her when she's drunk and talking nonsense. She's crazy about him and really wants to keep hold of him, as he's a good influence on her."
Since Reg and Raven were spotted together, the "Psychosis" director has enjoyed several dates with Amy, where the couple have appeared as much in love as ever. Amy Winehouse's new man has been spotted holding hands with his ex-girlfriend. The "Rehab" singer, who has been dating film producer Reg Traviss for months, enjoyed a "cozy" night out with his former lover, burlesque dancer Raven Isis, at a strip club in London during the early hours of Sunday morning, August 22.
"The pair walked into the Red Room gentlemen's club where they spent some time inside," a source told the Daily Mirror newspaper. "They seemed cozy and comfortable with each other. Raven couldn't stop smiling. Then they went out to have a cigarette." When Reg and Raven were spotted holding hands at around 4 A.M. the "Psychosis" director quickly tried to hide from paparazzi.

Amy Winehouse might not like hearing that her director boyfriend Reg Traviss used her for publicity. Reg's ex-girlfriend, saucy burlesque stripper Raven Isis, has waded in Amy and Reg's romance, telling News of the World that the helmer is with Amy only to get publicity for his movie.
"Amy needs to know she is being used by him. We were madly in love and he threw it all away to be with her just because she's famous," Raven insisted. "And he doesn't even like brunettes - especially with fake boobs and a rubbish fake tan."
25-year-old Raven further claimed that Reg was not as nice as Amy thought he was, stating "He's not the Mr Nice Guy Amy and her family think he is. In fact, he's calculating and knows exactly that her fame will raise his own profile."

On the small screen, she was the quintessential all-American cheerleader, both in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Veronica Mars. It was a role for she'd had plenty of real-life experience as a San Diego Chargers cheerleader in the early 90s.
But despite starting her TV career in 1995, with a guest spot on Baywatch, and seeing plenty of success in that medium, the 39-year-old actress has yet to properly crack features. That's all set to change this year. First up is a British horror film, Psychosis, which is what has brought her to London for an exclusive chat with Cinematical today.
And later next month she'll play Jason Statham's character's girlfriend in Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables. Despite a 15-year career, it's her first major Hollywood blockbuster. She sits down to discuss the film and update us on those rumours about big screen translations for Buffy and Veronica Mars...

Director: Reg Traviss. Review: Adam Wing. Low budget horror movies can be found in every bargain bin, every video store and every film fans DVD collection up and down the country. More often miss than hit; just occasionally a truly original, well-made horror movie can be found if you know where to look. The House of the Devil is one such movie, and even though I’d never heard of it before getting comfortable on the sofa, I was really glad I had by the time the credits rolled. I’d never heard of Psychosis either, but I’m always willing to try on a new horror outfit for size. It’s very rare that they fit of course, but as any shelf stacker at Blockbuster Video will testify, there are plenty more costumes in the closet. After pressing play, with very little hope for the next ninety minutes I might add,...

Psychosis Movie PosterE1 Entertainment has picked up the psychological thriller Psychosis for release in North America, possibly in 2010. The film is showing in the United Kingdom this week (July 16th) and the story runs a haunted house theme, while making one character, Sarah, look mentally unstable. Briefly, psychosis is a broad general term, in psychology, which is used to describe delusions, a split from reality, or trance-like states from religious phenomena, or caused intrapsychically. The source of character Sarah's distress will not be revealed until later this year; however, check out the new trailer for Psychosis below along with other details.
A synopsis for Psychosis here:
"When Susan (Charisma Carpenter, The Expendables, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel),a successful horror novelist, relocates from California to the rural English countryside in search of peace, the newly-wed finds it in a picturesque, isolated manor house. But soon after settling in, Susan is...

Director Reg Traviss has recently been in the newspapers across the UK due to him being the current boyfriend of singer Amy Winehouse. His latest flick, a low-budget psycho-horror entitled Psychosis, stars former Buffy and Angel actress Charisma Carpenter. The media exposure certainly won’t do his film any harm, but it’s got enough going for it to not need too much help from a famous girlfriend.
FilmShaft got the lowdown from Traviss on the making of his retro-style horror film, shooting in an alleged haunted house and what he’ll do next. Traviss comes across as a down to earth and friendly chap and definitely a young director to watch.
Is Psychosis an original story or something you adapted for the screen?
Rt: Originally it was a story written in 1974 and it was shot in about 1980 as a short film. You remember how they used to have those anthology horror films?...

Reg Traviss’ retro shocker, Pyschosis, comes after Ti West’s superb The House of the Devil in March this year. It might be too early to suggest the horror genre is going through a full blown pastiche phase, but given these two films hark back in spirit to the 1970s and pay homage, perhaps more will follow.
Traviss shoots the film in muted colours and likes to bust out the slow zoom giving it a feeling of Hammer or Amicus-era flicks. The set up is takes its time in arriving to the big twist ending, which reverses the ‘it’s all a dream’ into something a bit more supernatural. Indeed, Psychosis is the kind of movie Lucio Fulci might have made early in his career and indeed the spirit of giallo is apparent as much as Hammer Studios.
Unlike The House of the Devil – which transcended its retro schtick – Psychosis often veers into troubled waters.

But after almost two years spent in a wilderness of drugs, divorce, serious health issues, multiple court cases and nonstop personal drama, Winehouse told London's Metro newspaper that she's ready to put the spotlight back on her music with a new album she hopes to have out by January.

Actress Charisma Carpenter has been able to put some distance between her roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel these past few years. Although she’ll never escape the shows completely – she’ll always be Cordelia Chase to a legion of fans – Carpenter has decided to forge a new career in film.
Psychosis is a new British retro psycho-thriller that began life as a short movie in a 1980s horror anthology. Director Reg Traviss took the seed of the idea and wrote a new script. Charisma Carpenter stars as a Us writer who having suffered a nervous breakdown in the past, retreats to a country manor with her husband to write her next book.
Of course things don’t go to plan and all sorts of strangers and strangeness occurs in fine horror tradition.
FilmShaft caught up with the actress yesterday to discuss her first leading role and the forthcoming Expendables movie.

I do often believe the horror genre to be the best cinema has to offer. H.P. Lovecraft once said, ‘the oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.’ Very true.
