Recently, Bipasha Basu has been taking on films that show her in de-glamorized roles, and bring to light important social messages. For example, her last film, Lamhaa, dealt with the conflict in Kashmir.
Bipasha continues her own trend with her newest film, Aakrosh. She seems to be very excited about the upcoming film, and has been tweeting about the story of the film; "#Aakrosh is a thriller which shows how the evil practice of honour killings still exist. It is a hard hitting issue based film!"
Bipasha takes on the role of an abused housewife. The actress describes her character to the media as being "trapped in an unhappy, abusive marriage and the sadness is reflected in her persona." She says of her role, "It was a dismal role to play but an eye-opener too."
Since Bipasha’s debut in 2001 with her film Ajnabee, she has been associated with a glamorous image.

In a candid conversation with Screen, we get acquainted with the musical maverick Playback singing seems to be a part-time occupation for you despite your high hit percentage. Why is that? Our entire family back in Punjab has been into music as a full-time occupation that brooks no compromise. When I came to Mumbai it was after three years of planning and a lot of hard work. I am from a school that believes in well-trained complete musicians who compose as well as sing. It is thus necessary to learn not just formal vocal music but also as many instruments as possible - I learnt 50 instruments so that as a composer I know their strengths and zones and am aware of what orchestration I will need for any song.

July 24, 2010: Believe it or not but a couple of upcoming actors along with Jimmy Shergill, have crushed Sanjay Dutt’s Lamhaa at the box office. Along with star studded Lamhaa, three small films – Tere Bin Laden, Udaan and Mel Karade Rabba (in Punjabi) clashed with each other at the box office. However, the unthinkable happened with each of the three films succeeding at the box office (in varied degree, of course) with an exception of Lamhaa that got totally whitewashed.
While Tere Bin Laden, a small budget comedy, ended up garnering more than 5 crores in the first week, hence instantly turning.

July 24, 2010: Bipasha Basu tells Jyothi Venkatesh that she is happy that her performance in Lamhaa has not gone unnoticed.
What message did Rahul drive home through Lamhaa?
The message that Rahul Dholakia tried to drive home through the film was that you cannot really grow up in a land which is surrounded by guns, with a feeling of insecurity at the back of your mind. It is just recently after the elections that life has returned to a semblance of normalcy in the valley. The stalemate that is there in Kashmir makes you wake up from your slumber and prod you not to take anything for granted and fight.
